I'll trade you. I'd rather play on dialup than stay with my family.

O (pause) K (pause) everyone, (pause) please (pause) speak (pause) slowly (pause) so (pause) the (pause) dialup (pause) users (pause) can (pause) keep (pause) up. (pause) L (pause) O (pause) L
LOL. Aren't the pauses a bit too short? For dialups I mean.... :p

All this debate over how slow Dialup is makes me want to try running a graphics heavy program with it... Or stab myself with a spoon... whichever's easier.
(My bet is the stabbing works first. *L*)
Okay, first of all, most users are on dial-up. And secondly, stop scaring this poor guy! I play on dial-up and whatever they've done at Arena.net, they have done it masterfully. I started playing during the WPE and have attended the BWE's and during my playtime I have experienced zero, NONE, NO lag whatsoever. Arena.net has made this game with dial-up users in mind and they are doing a wonderful job on it.
The only real gameplay difference you would most likely notice is downloading, and even that's fast!
I know the replies were meant in jest, at least I hope so. I really hate seeing people bashing what is still the most widely used connection to the internet, and for most people, access to high speed is not available. =P
Anyway, I'm not flaming or anything like that, simply stating that Guild Wars is awesome with dial-up, much better than any other online game I've played, so I wouldn't worry too much about your gameplay suffering. =)

Yeh dont worry Green
I had many times a person with DialUp in my party, and they did take quite some time on loading when moving onto new area, but after they loaded, none of them ever complained about lag, well some did, but even those with better than dialup may lag, like me.
I hope it works well for you!
:) Don't worry, my post and the others' ARE meant in jest. Sorry if anyone's offended ... Anyway, I've played with a number of players who use dial up. The problem only occurs when we played in a new map (new to the dial up players I mean), coz it does take a while to download the contents. Other than that, I heard no complaints what so ever from them.
I read somewhere, can't remember where, on how to solve the downloading issue. Whenever you can, ask your broadband-using friends to go to those maps, then burn the files (can't remember which files - just burn 'em all I guess) to a CD-R/RW. Copy paste those files into your GW directory. That'll lessen greatly the time you'd take accessing Tyria. If you don't have such friends, I guess there's no other way but to download the contents yourself. Try to do it before you join a party. When you're done, leave the map & join a team & get ready to kick some a$$. Hope that helps.... :)

The wireless hispeed connection I was on for the last BWE was actually slower than I've ever had on dialup. Sorry if I scared you.
I also have on good authority that in some areas, dialup is faster than most hispeed because enough of the users have switched. It might even turn out better than you think.
Don't you worry Green! I played the last 3 events on dialup (probably the crappiest dialup known to man) and I had no lag at all. My trick to save everyone some grief was to dl everything in advance. I go touch everything, enter missions, visit explorables before I joined parties to do them. It was kinda a pain but you can go get food, drink or whatever while each downloads. Most of the time I didn't have to worry too much but that's due to the great friends I got. Even when not with friends, most were pretty understanding (though some would tend to wander off!). There's always the jerks but like with everything else in life, just ignore them.
Good luck!
:xsnow: Dria
ps. Also, downloading the daily build helps tons too. That and it feeds the 'monster'. :xgrin:

Hehe thanks folks. Luckily this is the same computer that i have been playing GW on so i'll have most of the levels downloaded already. Its great to hear that GW actually works well on dial up, considering its an internet only program. I hope it works as well as (or better than) d2. Sounds like I'll be ok as i have been downloading the daily builds already. Or, i could just go stay at a friend's house for the weekend and babble incessantly about how great GW is as im playing it while he plays WOW.
I play D2 actually and it runs TONS better than D2. I get lag in D2 way more than I do in GW.
Woot GW!
:xtree:
Dria is completly right. I am on the slowest Dialup connection known to man, and the first & second weekend I was even able to play through the Tombs. The third weekend it changed though, and I felt to be too much a liability to PvP.
PvE though worked liiiiike a glove. Let me give you a hint as to my typical connection as well. Were talkin single digits. As long as I preload all the areas, I join the same as everyone else in 90% of the instances. Sometimes it will seem to just stall though, and may take another minute or so. For the most part I'm usually not the last one there, ofcourse this is omitting PvP since the last weekend.
And high speed is only a temptation of the devil. I cannot indulge in something so evidently evil. I will not indulge in it. I cant afford a montly payment for an online game, as if it mattered . I could probably swing broadband if they would offer it here....would have to dip into other funds....hmm. Food isnt that important.
