Fa'Rain Shad'a'lain if your running PS or PSP I have a drop shadow filter that will do just about anything. PM me.
I used it for the character here [poor example] as I did'nt have room to lay it out properly. Next Time :)

Create a new layer, use a black paintbrush to draw a shadow, then adjust the layer transparency to taste.
