In a recent thread, Elly posted a figure of $4816.00 US to keep this site running a month. Now I don't know about you, but that is alot of money. Of course some people also have the idea stuck in their head that their small donation could not make a difference, that their 7.50$ over 6 months is pointless for donation. Well, I just looked and there are currently 62,269 members of RPGforums.net, and the number is still growing. Do the math, a dollar a month for everyone would go a LONG way. For those who wish to donate and do not have the means, use this thread to request help from those willing to help donate.

What I will do is this (short version): You figure out what kind of pal-ship you want (bronze, silver, gold, platinum, values can be found here (http://forums.gwonline.net/subscriptions.php?)), and them PM me so that I can give you a mailing address to send a Check or Money Order to, and I will make the donation for ya. In a bit more detail...

(long version)Once you pick out the type of pal you want to be and the duration for that pal-ship, PM me with those specifics. I will then give you my mailing address (in a PM) and then you will need to send a Check or Money order (no cash unless you really, really trust the mail, and I dont :P ) to me, and once I get it and it clears, I will contact you again so that I can get your account password, and I will log in, make the donation and log out.

Granted, this system requires a lot of trust, but we did this in the Diablo2 OTF and their number of pals skyrocketed (read here (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=298032)). We are not begging for money, this is just a way for people under 18 or people who dont have a PayPal account can donate if they want to. If you have any questions about this, PM me, post them here or hit me with an email: fallen62@gmail.com.

didn't know you could register! :P
Maybe you could also use a bigger banner that says "Subscribe here" instead of "Support the Network" (it sounds more like charity than an actual service that helps pay for the site :D )

Happy to help out when needed!

I would like to thank Fallen for takeing this step up and reaching out to the community in hopes that we will all reach back.

There have been threads posted about why it laggs up sometimes, or why we have trouble accessing the database. Well this would probably be a huge reason guys, useing common sense. We all use this site, and its abundance of information so why not give a little back if we can, and in turn, do ourselves a favor.

C'mon guys lets Pal it up!

Muahahahaha, the trend is spreading ;) Is anyone interested, cuz I havent gotten any emails or pm's or anything yet :( If no one is interested, I will be hurt and cry in my corner for many years to come... Just kidding ;) Actually, I will be somewhat saddened, though.

And a heartfelt thanks to those who already donated! Tarrant, Chantal and I are very please that you took the time and gave the networks a bit of cash to help keep them running ;) Every little bit helps.

edit: Just a little bit of info. Elly released the total for pal donations for the last 3 months:

Nov - 639.00
Dec - 962.50
Jan - 1232.41

In 2 months we doubled the pal donation amounts. That is largely due to many mods posting threads like this in their own forums. Just goes to show ya that every little bit helps. Not to mention that you get access to a "super secret" Pal Forum!!!

Also if you donate, you get access to the Super Secret Pal Forum where there's complimentary lap dances for everyone!

Very nice idea with this thread, Fallen

You are so copying me ;) Anyway, I forgot to mention the Lap Dances, hehe. They are very enticing, FYI ;) Given by some of the nicest D2 OTF regulars you will ever meet. But you have to donate to get one ;)

Thank you! And thanks to all the others who have donated thus far! We really appreciate the help! And my guess is that it costs that much because of the bandwidth and space that they take up. But that is just a guess.

I would like to say thank you to Boanergese, MasterDad, and Pale Blade for using this system to become pals. We really appreciate the donations to help keep us running :D

For anyone else, this program is still running, an as you can see, works good. If you want confirmation, talk to one of the three above. Any little bit helps!

Not to be offensive or anything, because gwonline rules, but needing 4000 dollars a month to run a site sounds more like a scam than anything. I mean a normal website cost what? like 4 bucks a month? And for a major site like this maybe 50 bucks? Hell even a 100 dollars, but 4000 is a flat out lie. Or if it is true you should seriously reconsider your options.

No, its true. The 4000 is for the forums, worldofwar.net, diabloii.net, gwonline.net and the bandwidth they get. That adds up to quite a bit. not to mention the server upkeep, new servers we have had put in, etc. There are many things that go into the upkeep of the site which put the cost over 4k a month, the ones i listed are the most common ones. The hosting bill is over 4k a month, and the pal donations help with the hosting.

And even if it wasnt 4k a month, the pal donations go into an account that Elly only uses for the payment of the bills. She doesnt touch the money unless its for that reason. If we ever had a surplus of pal donations, she would leave it in the account for a rainy day.

So, it is not a scam, it is a way for users to help keep the site running which they love so much ;) I know you werent trying to be rude, but my posts are factual ;) It does cost 4k/month to run the site, and pal donations are increasing which helps pay for that hosting bill ;) To all those that donated, Thank you and to all those that want to donate, please do or contact me if you dont have PayPal.

<dreams of 50 bucks hosting>

Anyway, thought I'd post a couple links to two invoices I got a couple payments ago that I scanned last time someone said it was a 'flat out lie'.

They are now updated in my original post. Only problem is with the D2 forums, your DNS may need to refresh before you can see that post. Use this link for now: http://80.75.65.69/~d2forums/showthread.php?t=298032

After the split did the hosting costs go up again or are they the same?

Also, i'm sure I read the answer to the following question but i've forgotten the answer. If I become a pal on the Dii forums will I still be a pal on the GWOnline forums? or did the split mean you're not :( .

How does one afford to run such a site? I mean, this is class in a glass, but $4k is a butt load. Bandwidth is a lot, and the only thing you can do is... get adverts (which Adblock will filter out anyway, so go for it )
