"Leather N Lace" is a commoner name created by my silly mother. She was a seamstress for a foreign ambassador in Ascalon. She might as well been from the moon as far as I am concerned. Maybe she was from one of the islands or from the Temple of the Ages region. She really did not talk much about that and I can't ask her about that now since the Searing took her away. I liked my father, but he was never around. I am told he had a real important job of guarding the mountain passes or some such to the west. I am sure he was a Ranger of the highest sort. Although I have heard he liked ships and challenging the stormy surf near reefs. I am sure he had a sword, but part of me thinks somehow that it was a cutlass. I know that can't be right as a Ranger would not use a cutlass, but it was slightly curved I recall. I know he use to watch this hawk he called "The Warhawk" and said that it saw trouble on the horizon, but I never saw that hawk on his arm no matter how much he whistled at it.
I love the bow as it reminds me of the forests of old, before the charr. There is nothing that compares with the feel of a well-made long bow. The power when you draw, the peace as you sight afar, and the relief like a sigh of remembrance as you release and you arrow soars like a thought. This takes a gift of patience and inner balance. I remember wondering why Rurik neglected his bow lessons so and would have died to have the tutors he had. I do remember sharing an apple with Rurik and I am sure we really were friends before he became so focused on revenge. It is hard to say with royalty. One must keep to one's place they say...
That is all the past. I remember my mother saying... "In the tapestry of this life, you will have great success and sorrow. Each of these will add color to the cloth weaved by your life thread. When the gods decree it, you will feel their pull and the pattern that must be. Accept both your success and sorrows of your life and you will be great through your own deeds and those you touch. Never lose faith in your destiny and keep it firmly fixed in your heart and mind. If you are lucky, the gods will allow your dreams also to be made real." It was weird that she said stuff like this and I recall these words most clearly as the truth of them was powerful and alive. She was very mysterious for a seamstress.
When I find my father one day, I will have a few questions for him. I can see the moment we meet in my mind's eye as if it were a memory already. Below us is a vista filled with the excitement that only danger can bring to a scene. He will wish me well as he hands his sword to me with his shaking hands and tells me to never draw it lightly. I can see it now as I gaze into the small glowing dragon eyes embedded in the hilt. The plain black sheath hiding its engraved blue-sheen blade.
For now, you can find me seeking westward with my friends or at the Rangers of the Deep [RoD] (http://www.biologyvet.com) Guildhall mulling over what needs to be planted where for the next outdoor bash. Everything needs to be just so and also in harmony - as a Guild is something not to be taken lightly.
Anyhow, that is my story so far. It is one of today and also tomorrow - filled with friends both close and dear. I hope that you are one of them when I look back on the tapestry of my life and the journey to find my father (and myself).
