First Thread!

I was just wondering if anyone has the color mixer program hosted?

The mian site never allows me to download anything. Thanks in advance!

I was previously hosting this file, but with the recent controversy surrounding deep-file scanning, I have decided to not host this anymore.

Also, I did not personally find the mixing to be very accurate especially since the dye works differently on different materials (ie. Bonelace vs. Knights).

Someone emailed me the color mixer but i think its a virus of some kind, i clicked the exe and then nothing happened, when i conenct to guildwars it downloaded updates like it has just been installed.

The filename is GWCC.exe be careful, Norton didn't detect it as a virus but I don't know how it will affect my computer or my account in guildwars.

Isn't GWCC.EXE the main client executable launched to start the game?

I'm at work, but I seem to recall this being the case. If so, funny but asshat-ish at the same time.

I managed to download the color mixer from here after several tries... It certainly is pretty, but I'm not really sure it's very accurate.

As far as I can tell, all it does is somehow add color codes in one way or the other, which seems logical from a colour point of view... however I've been able to verify ingame that the results it gives are not exactly what you'll actually get.

So proceed with caution...

Those of you who have been running something named GWCC.exe be extra wary, the program available here on GWO in the "Files" section is named "ColorMix.zip", which contains the program, "ColorMix.exe"... and yes it is available, if at first you don't succeed, F5, F5 again (meaning Refresh the page a few times, it'll work eventually)...

Unless someone changed the executable name (and if they got it from here legit, why would they?), then I'd suspect a 'doctored' version of the program is what you've infected your system with, same method some use to steal your account with keyloggers and other trojan crap...

Just because your <insert popular anti-viral proggie here> doesn't detect the file as a virus/trojan/something harmful, doesn't mean it's not, just means it's too obscure or too new for them to have taken notice of it yet and worked in the measures to detect it... and some small trojan masquerading as a (questionably accurate) Color Mixer program for a game likely won't get noticed too quickly...

Check GWO's Scam Guide, I'd say this fake colormixer proggie might come under the Account Theft section... or as PROLINKer noticed something might have 'changed' one of his GW files, might be other files they're playing with as well...

I usually get 3-4 requests a week for either the Color Mixer or Cape Maker. Orignally I made this offer because the main site was experiencing a lot more traffic than expected. Since then, the server has been upgraded (more than once) and the load is more managable. Please use the link in the Files (http://www.gwonline.net/files/) section FIRST. If that one is down, then use the link in my signature file below and look for the GW links on the right side.

And just as a word of caution, it is NOT a good idea to post an email address in a post on a forum as done above as you may be subjected to eternal spam or worse.

Yes, that is correct. I made the proggy during the beta, at wich time I had very limited amounts of dye to confirm anything.
GW probably uses a different method to mix dyes and then there is also the added complexity that it turns out differently on every type of armor.

AVG is still wrong :p but It's good to be on the safe side.
However, the file ColorMix.zip (and ColorMix.exe) hosted by GWOnline.net IS clean, despite what AVG says.

I have had that program on my computer for almost a year, and AVG has never picked up a virus. If it is the ColorMixer from our site, it is safe. I cannot vouch for other sites and their crediability.

Anyone having difficulty installing it? I downloaded it twice, but when I try to install it says
"Cannot find the source file 'C:/...@ColorMix.exe' to install." Tried the smaller file color mixer as well and that's a no-go too.

Edit: Scratch that.. logged in safe mode and it worked. First program I've ever had not install except under safe mode.

Edit2: Unscratch that... seems it ONLY works when used in safe mode. If I'm not in safe mode, the icon for the program turns to the square white box, but under safe mode it's the special nice icon. Any way to fix this so I don't have to restart if I want to use it? ;)

I would like to point out that Thul Rasha's Color Mix program is, unfortunately, horribly inaccurate. It seems that what it does is takes the average of all of the RGB values for each component color- so mixing red and green gets you yellow, mixing yellow and blue gets you gray, and mixing red, green, and blue also gets you gray. Obviously, this is not the case (you get orangish-brown, a slightly yellowish gray, and God-knows-what, respectively) in-game. So, use at your own risk.

As a side note, I am currently working on figuring out just how GW does color mixing, and perhaps using it to create a dye-mix program of my own later on. I still have a long ways to go, but so far I have what I believe are the actual two-dye mix colors. It'd be great if some people would try out how accurate these colors are (on some colors are really out of whack, but for the most part they seem to work well). You can find them on my guild's website here (http://tel.eohjay.net/dyecharts.html).

Fallen_62

Its not in-accurate, actually. Like it states on the "start up" screen, the colors represented here may not be what you get on your armor. Each piece of armor dies differently. If you use an Orange dye on the Elementalist Armor, it will look almost red, and if you use a Red dye on the same Elementalist Armor, it will look almost the exact same. His calculator isnt "inaccurate," just that the game displays dyes different on different armors.

While I acknowledge that certain mixes on certain armors creates some pretty weird stuff (something which is causing me no end of frustration), from what I've seen, the formula I'm using creates the actual in-game color quite often. Basically, it involves giving each color a priority, and when two colors are mixed, the one with higher priority has twice as much "weight" as the lower one. Thul Rasha's dye mixer does pretty much the same, except it gives each dye the same weight, which is why it results in different mixes giving the same color. If you don't believe me, try some 2-dye mixes and compare the result to what's shown in my chart and Thul Rasha's mix program. I'm not trying to bash his program, it's a great idea and it does a decent job, I'm just trying to improve on it.

Currently I'm trying to figure out how weights work in 3-dye mixes, which will likely involve me eventually making a batch of every (or most) 3-dye mix, seeing how it looks, and reverse-engineering the mechanics from there. It'll be expensive, but I'll probably be abusing one of my rich guildmates to test a couple of my ideas. (hopes said rich guildmate doesn't read this :innocent: )

There is a method to the madness, but that doesn't make it any less maddening. :sign53: I'll likely want some screens of dye mixes to see how some of this works out, which I'll create a request thread for sometime in the future.

It is not a program, but it was a very useful resource for me when mixing dyes, this site has several 2-colors mixing charts, including the effects of dyes on the necromancer scars :surprise: and for the chaos axes (im not sure if this chart is accurate also for storm bows, since i did my own experimentation with it, but in fact, storm bows reacts quite much like chaos axes)

Is there any way to get the Color mixer program yet? I have been trying to 2 days to get it here at gwonline.net but it just will not download...(always times out). I was also wondering if there was going to be an update to it sometime? I really want to start with dying my armor in more complex mixes and thought this would be a great tool.... if only it would download. :(

AHHH!! I still cannot get either of the color mixer programs to download. I have tried every other file and they all download on the first try every time. What is up with this? The number of downloads keeps going up on these programs (albiet very slowly) so I know it DOES work somewhat. The one is only 256 kb so it should download in a snap. Can someone fix this issue or give me any suggestions?

Ok, for everyone who wanted this, I found my folder where I had originally unzipped it. This is the larger one, the "Color Mix Setup" - unfortunately I had deleted the other, smaller one. I will admit upfront that this IS a rezipping and not the original one downloaded here, so if you do not trust me of it's safety feel free to not download it. I say this because, if you recall the other thread, some virus scanners DO pick this program up as a trojan dropper. http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?t=372097

Anyway, here is the Color Mix Setup file: http://www.filefactory.com/get/f.php?f=176c7957bcc2ba75e07a0ec6

It uploaded fine and all the files that originally came with it are still there. I had the same problem as you using it though. I couldn't get it to install. I did eventually get it installed in safe mode, but it would ONLY work in safe mode for me. I don't know... :undecided:

I eventually gave up with it working on my system properly. Don't know what to say except it's not my program

It looks like one file is missing - the .cab file, but I assure you that it was not there when I downloaded it from this site.

I've heard from 2 sources that Yellow, Silver, Silver, Silver or Blue, Silver, Silver, Silver should get you white.
I've also heard from someone else that Dye Remover, Silver, Dye Remover Silver will get the similar results.

For any of you that think you might have an infection check this out....

http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/rootkitrevealer.html

There is a description at the site. In summary basically alot of these infections/spyware/malware (just plane nusances) intercept being revealed by windows and then hide themselves from view. This program compares the raw hive info with what is being revealed to windows and then shows what has been hidden from view. When I ran it the files found were suddenly flagged by my virus program and quarantined. I had this two file trojan since about 4 months that wasn't detected because of hiding itself like this.

The forum where I got this from is....

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.php?t=18265&highlight=apropos

I hope this helps anyone who needs it.
