The mythical henchmen...

Just started playing today, but I've been all over the starting areas (behind the wall) and haven't seen any sign of a hirable NPC. Are there any henchmen around anywhere in these areas? I know I'm supposed to look for them around exit points like gates, and I've read that they will have their character type listed after their names in brackets, ie. <Healer>. Is there some other way of identifying them?

I have the distinct suspicion that they don't exist at all in these areas.

Henchman cannot be found until after you join the Academy. Until then, things are easy enough without them so don't worry about it too much.

I got the Collectors Edition and when I first logged on i believe that there were 4 henchmen at the first town!? But not sure
