Hi, i made a she-ranger for fun ( that Miss Playboy is sure a pretty girl ;) ) and she's level 5 1/2 right now. The going is fairly easy because i found a 7-10 dmg bow. I was wondering about the effectiveness of rangers? In later areas i don't know if my ranger will be able to keep up. I also have no idea what im doing with my attribute pts, but i can always change those. My main concern is a second profession, which i can't seem to decide on. I don't know the skills of other classes besides a few warrior skills. I'd just like some input or advice, thanks in advance.

Well if you are planning on dealing damage with Ranger, you may pick something to help sustain your life like /Monk.

Perhaps you want the ability to use Illusion Magic or hinder casters, in which you should go with the Mesmer.

You could dabble in Blood Magic of the Necro to keep your life flowing.

Warrior could allow you to go mellee when you feel the need.

Elementalist could add to your damage with Conjure Lightning, Flame, etc, and give you the ability to rain down a nice AoE or single target big damage spell.

I'm thinking since its your first go, you should pick the Elementalist, as its a relatively easy to use and effective combination. Either that or Monk.

217 views and 1 reply, thanks :D I went warrior/ele on another char and hes not very good. But for a ranger it may be different. I was thinking of trying a different second profession since i havent tried any of the others. I'll have to decide, thanks.

Currently playing a Ra/mo
but if i had a choice to do it again... I think i would have went ranger/mesmer

Mesmer have alot of anit-caster spells combined with the Ranger's range makes for a lethal long-distance combination.
Besides that was suggested in one of those character builds from the pre-order booklet.
Atni-caster Ranger; go energy draining and long-range spell interuption

Ranger/Monk was my calling. I chose to focus entirely on ranger skills thus making a choice of secondary rather trivial, in the end I went with monk just for the ability to have a real ressurect (something I have used often) as a profession with both a decent armor and often the one furthest back from the action. I've often found myself the last one left standing and with the duty to either die (and merely give one more person a 15% DP) or res, having a true ressurection instead of just the signet has helped many groups i've been in emensly. Also I've learned that even without a single point in monk skills you can be a decent emergency healer just by combining Infuse Health with Troll Unguent. (This however is not a good idea when you are the focus of enemy attention.) And last but not least, in the event of a group being without a healer Ranger/Monks work well as a last minute respecialization. Move around a few attribute points and you can quickly become a primary healer with little problem maintaining things.

There are just a few things to think over in choosing a Monk.
