I just had a quick question as to how Ether Lord Works, I mean it costs 5 Energy and at max charge regenerates 3 Energy for a total of 27 Energy over 9 seconds. Is this a spell to use when you are very low on energy and need to come back, or do you use the spell as an opener to maintain the spells you are casting? How do you use it?
Well, firstly, notice that the first sentence of the description says "You lose all energy". So it requires 5 to cast, but then at the end of the 2-second cast time you're down to 0. Therefore you should aim to have *exactly* 5 energy when you cast it. So it's not an opening spell.
And your math is a little off. You'll have 0 mana when the timer starts, then you'll have 7 arrows of mana regen for 9 seconds. Each arrow is 1/3 of a mana per second, so that's 21 mana total after 9 sec, whereas you would have had 12 after those same 9 sec without Ether Lord.
So, your net gain of mana is 4, after 2 seconds of casting and 9 seconds of waiting. If you're looking for the most efficient managain spell, this isn't it. The nice thing about Ether Lord is that it works well with other mana denial skills and builds revolving around Mind Wrack.

Speaking of builds that revolve around Mind Wrack, how hard is it to reduce a monk/elementalist/etc to zero mana???
You would need to build your character to suite the energy denial wrack. This means useing a lot of energy drain based skills.
It is not very difficult, especially when in an actual battle, because healers are useing energy left and right. If your going after an elementalist it might be slighly more difficult, becuase they have a potentially massive supply of energy.
Yeah, I've made the mistake of loading up an E/Mo with energy degen skills just to watch them shrug it off.
I use(d) Ether Lord in combination with Panic. Together it's a decent amount of energy degen for your target, along with a little to anyone around them. Since Panic takes 25 energy to cast, it'll leave your pool quite low, an opportune time to cast Ether Lord. Add in a few skills for removing chunks of energy along with Mind Wrack or Wastrel's Worry and it works out quite well.
