This trick will net you around 5-10% xp between lvls 12-16 and around 400-500 gold every time. at very little risk to you, if executed properly!

Well, as I promised, a small video of this trick.

how it works:
go to "Gates of Kryta" with your favourite pyromancer (although other characters probably work, although slower i think)

at the first opportunity, head to the left.

Here you will meet Oink, the invincible warthog.

invincible because (a) enemies rarely attack him (b) even if they attack him, they do no damage. He is the ultimate tank.

He will follow you when you click on him.

Which comes in handy, because behind the farm where you find Oink, begins the bonus mission for Gates of Kryta. (and a way to skip 2/3rds of the main mission btw)

Go behind the farm, walk down the hill. Notice the sole hellhound. If you are lucky, he will wander just at the bottom of the hill. If you can, lure him a little up the hill. oink will tank him. If the hellhound is beyond the gate to the left, you'll have to kill the burrowed... undead things... (dunno what kind). Walk towards the hellhound and they should come out of the ground. Lure them to the base of the hill, the burrowed undead are harder than the hellhound, because there are more of them. Whenever there are more, there is an increased chance some will ignore oink and run for you.

Whenever monsters come for you, just run up the hill. They should find oink much more attractive than you, and run back to oink.

Anyway, when you've defeated the hellhound or the burrowed undead things, a whole crapload of monsters will come streaming for the hill. this is good. (when you are a pyromage)

make sure oink hits the first monster which comes running up the hill. This will ensure oink will stay put. If he hasn't hit a monster yet, he might come running towards you, with all the monsters behind him.

Make sure you are far enough up the hill so the white circle on the map is not within reach of any red dots. This ensures the monsters can't see you. It's not that bad if they do, and you will move within range in order for you to cast your spells, but it makes it safer if you try to minimize the time your white circle is within reach of the red dots (enemies)

select a random monster around oink, and meteor shower/rain of fire/phoenix away.

Be wary still, when the monsters are dead, the 3 bone necromancers to the right will cast "bone minion" at the corpses of the monsters. However, even bone minions like oink a lot, so they'll probably just stand around oink. One rain of fire and they will be dead.

Now all that is left are 3 necro's, notice that even though your "view is obstructed" (flare/phoenix), you can still rain of fire them. So you wont have to get hurt even here, although I doubt 3 necro's without any corpses nearby could really hurt you.

Just be carefull, trap the monsters at the bottom of the hill and you can complete this trick in around 5 minutes. After you've picked up everything, you will get around 500 gold. I've also unlocked many runes and grips this way.

Enjoy.

O and before I forget, here is the video: (7 MB, encoded in DivX format, search for a proper codec pack such as the "k-lite codec pack" if the file doesn't play) (also yeah, I know the quality sucks, but it's good enough to show the trick and you wouldn't want to download 50mb, now would you

...and? I don't see apoint to this trick. You want a trick to get stuff? Go farm drakes. And you want to see this done the right way, do the same thing but with a smiting monk. Use balthazar's aura, symbol of wrath, retribution, and fun things like that. That's fun

It seems they already have fixed it: I just tested it, only to discover that Oink does not follow you anymore. He just says "Oink!" and stays put in his original spot.

I tested it too, and it still works

How long, I don't know, I agree it's cheesy. But hey, it's fun to do too :P

The GWO Guild were considering naming ourselves "The Great Warthog Oink!" to keep the tag GWO but be truly impressive.

Where do I sign up? :happy65: I guess my current guild, lodoss [lion], wouldn't be happy though, perhaps we can merge? :love19:

Oink will not follow you if you've completed the bonus mission.

I see. Well, that might've made some sense in the BWEs, but now that bringing Oink back to Cheswick is meaningless, I'm not sure why he can still follow you at all.

Wel it still works.

At least it sorta works. I took my Mo/N out there but after so long Onik would move and one or more monsters would rush me.

I could be doing it wrong, I just wanted to do it before it gets fixed.

Got two minot runes out of it so not a total waste of time.

This was a cool find, keep up the good work people.

For an E/Mo, this is easier without Oink.

I used Fire, Earth, and Healing. I put healing enough so that mending gives me 3 arrows of regen, and Healing Breeze gives me 6. There is another skill called Balthazar's Spirit that is pivotal to this build. While you maintain it, you gain energy whenever you are hit by an attack. So I put the two enchantments up, rush into the biggest group of ghouls, use Armor of Earth for a defensive boost, and spam aoes. While you care constantly being hit, you will be getting like 10 energy per second and can spam to your hearts delight. If things get hairy, I use Healing Breeze. Although Healing Hands works better if you have it.

It takes about 3 to start the mission, run to the fight, kill, clean up, and get back to the town. I made 8,000 gold, 500 cloth, 150 glittering dust, 10 linen, and some runes in about an hour and a half of doing this.

I wonder who let the cat out of the bag, since as far as I know my guild was probably the first to be doing this. I guess it was only time till other people discovered the same leveling tricks we use.

Heh, in about every RPG since ultima 1, and every MMORPG out there, whenever you play a mage and you can get monsters trapped somehow, somewhere, people will use it to... their advantage. I made the video, but I doubt I was the first to think of this. And I doubt your guild was the first too, no offense. It's just putting 1 and 1 together. And like someone else posted, it's cheesy, but fun. Also, I think that Anet, like most MMORPG developers, will have build some data mining software to find "anomalies": like people gaining more than X amount of gold or XP in a short time. or people doing something over and over again.

The fun will begin when people will discover the more difficult combinations, involving more people and different classes. I was in the beta of WoW, and afterwards when I heard what they fixed, I was banging my head on the table: "why didn't -I- think of that!". (rogue/warlock/teleport trick, sand queen ranger pet trick) These things are bound to "get out of the bag", wheter I tell them or not.

Having said that, I was ofcourse thrilled to find the idea I came up with actually worked. And for a change I came up with it myself, I didn't have to read about it somewhere :happy14:

You can do this with a normal party, using normal tactics, instead of relying on an exploit. Get two tanks to block the ramp (W/E with Phoenix and Inferno works rather well, but unnecessary), and have the rest of your party stand up on the hill and nuke/arrows/whatever.

It's totally doable; I've done it with a pick-up group.

thanks for the tip, feel dumb for not thinking about that.

Umm.. what hill are you talking about?
I found oink, but there is no hill

The video won't work for me. But do you mean the hill behind the little house right beside oink? Also, is it possible to tame Oink to be your pet?

Is there any way for a Me/N to solo this? ive tried about 20 times, and the closest i have came was halfway through the large group. I managed to get 4 corspses down with a friend and that was enough to kill the rest with putrid explosion, but i cant seem to solo 4 without having at least 2-3 attack and kill me.
