..is Guild Wars the logical next step for me? I am getting very bored of World of Warcraft, my guild and I have done next to everything available in PvE (including MC and Onyxia) and the PvP there is a bit lame, even with the debut of BattleGrounds on the horizon, I'm just not into it.. the battles are boring, the loot is insignificant..

Simply put, I miss the old days of fierce BvB and SvS duels in Diablo 2, i miss the loot that would make or break you, and most of all I miss the action.. sure the game was a clickfest and is waaay outdated now, but is GW more what I am looking for? I guess i am a little frustrated because when i play an MMORPG, i play the crap out of it, and the fact that WoW has me bored already makes me weary of buying any new games right now (not to mention the consistent poor performance in cities, the lag, the downtime, etc etc)...

Any feedback or advice, expecially from players who found themselves in similar situations, is hugely appreciated. Happy hunting!

well if u like running around and killing things i reccomend guild wars. its also much more, though. this is my first"mmo" (played WoW stress test tho) and i really like Guild Wars. the only downside i think is the lack of different armor models and little storage room . this is mainly a PvP game and it has a good PvP system.

Um yeah Diablo II - played it. Played the absolute hell out of it, and like you I got tired of doing countless Baal runs day in and day out.

Now that GW is running Im a lot happier. It's nice to se a game where gold is a precious commodity again. I can remember paying through the nose for repair costs to Charsi and then thinking - Wealth armor and a few Champion packs and I made it all back.

Plus I like the game play. Not haveing to sit there and hold left click to attack endlessly is nice. It gives you time to type mesages to the others in your party without getting SPANKED because you took your finger off the button.

------------Hopefully they can keep the trade bots away also------------

I'm a former EQer and played some D2 (never bothered with WoW) and if you're looking for a game where gear will make-or-break you, this probably isn't the one you want.

And as your problem is with the fact that you've accomplished everything that you care to in WoW, I think you'd find Guild Wars a bit lacking as it's pretty easy to clear everything as well.

Don't think you can duel, think it's around 4x4 team battles and above.

Ditto. I think GW pve-gaming appeals to people looking for an easy, high-action cliche fantasy "storyline", with impressive scenery.

But the gameplay isn't much of a clickfest because of skill recharge times. You don't need to click for each attack. Unless the encounter is particularly difficult or interesting, you can play GW one-handed while watching TV, and just press 1 2 3 4 etc down the line for your "combo" - this is esp. so for ranged damage builds like rangers or elementalists.

Thanks alot for th replies, I think i have a much better understanding of the gameplay now.. alas, it may not be the perfect game for me, but I think I'll give it a try anyway, nothing to lose (outside of the retail price.. 50$ US I assume?)

If anyone has any knowledge to pass along on a good class/setup to start the game with to get familiar, I am all ears..

The amount of replay value in the game itself is more than $50. Seeing as GW was made by ex-blizzard employees, the structure of the game is quite similiar to Diablo II.

About your starting class, I recommend a Warrior primary Monk secondary. W/Mo are great because you can learn the game without really having to worry about the more complicated parts of GW, plus you can tank and self-heal. Just be aware that W/Mo is like "Hammerdin Status" meaning EVERYONE has a friggin' W/Mo since they can farm items with ease and such. Hope this helps you in some way or another. :happy34:

Makes me wonder... If ever new player that comes around wasn't told he should start with a Warrior/Monk would they be so common?

Hey, i'm just trying to help a newbie out... There is nothing bad about Warrior/Monks, they make getting quest done a whole lot easier when you got a team full of W/Mo. Judging from my experiences, starting with a R/Me was about the worst way possible to start since Me/R is in no way beneficial to a team trying to complete a quest and a lot more complicated than the tank heal of W/Mo (not to mention a R/Me has a very hard time soloing).

Many people believe that W/Mo are overpowered which leads to an over-abundance of them, but the truth is that most of them are just copying what they see on forums. Any player who uses his brain for a second instead of crying imba on forums or copying someone elses build can figure out that W/Mo have plenty of weaknesses. The main idea here is that, GW has a seemingly infinite ways to build a character and too many people are using builds they see on fansites. Overall, my advice would be to start off with a W/Mo just to get your economy flowing so you can afford to suit up your other characters when the time comes. Good Luck and Have Fun. :happy53:

As a R/Me, I completely disagree. The best part about this game, I think, is that any combination of classes works, it's just a matter of knowing your skills. I've never had trouble soloing, and I outdamage most people in PvE and PvP. Any R/Me will tell you this.

Instead of telling people what to play, we should be informing them. Find a guide for the classes, the skill lists are pretty self-explanatory. You're going to go through 1 or 2 characters before you settle on something to run with.

You are completely right. It's more about your personal preference. I started with a R/Me and it was not a very newb friendly build. I never said R/Me don't work, they are great in an experienced players hands. My monk has had plenty of problems when the other team has a good R/Me.

Though I said this game is closely related to D2 in many ways, by all means it is nowhere near as strict as D2 character building. There is no possible way to render a character useless, seeing as all 30 proffession combinations have their uses. My advice as to starting off the game on the right foot and getting rich quick using a W/Mo still stands, but the choice is really up to you about what type of role you want to play in the game. Just remember that there are only 4 character slots and it becomes real tough to try the near infinite builds GW has to offer.

I rolled a W/Mo with my first character without even taking a look at the forums. Forums ruined a lot of the experience for me in my last lengthy affair with an MMORPG. You may have a lot of people using cookie-cutter templates from websites, but I'd bet there are a lot like me who looked at the choices and said, "Hmm, a badass with a skull cleaver who is able to heal himself and his friends. That sounds like a good first choice." Quite elementary.

I'm looking forward to starting my spellcaster soon, though. Still haven't made my mind up what he'll be.
