Pet Question: I still have my first pet, the cat, but it has leveled with me and I have never seen an decent pets past it's level. Just curious as to what happens when I give my pet to a tamer and what level the new one I tame starts at. Does the pet start at my level or the level I tame it at?


Now for my random statement asking to help...

It seems like it is hard to come by updated info on the release build for GW. I guess it is just taking time for sites to update. Anyone have moderation here that could make some of the threads sticky so that it can help player and the website to get updated content?

It seems like the stalker starts at level 5, the moa bird is 3 i think, i have a snow wolf that started at level 5 too.
But for sure if you charm another animal it'll be low level, but they'll raise fast as you fight alongside them.

Don't they level at the exact time you do? If not, I may trade in the cat. I've been hesitant to do so, as my cat is lvl 11 along with me. Who'd want to trade a lvl 11 cat for... a lvl 5 unknown quantity?

Pets level up just the same as you do, from all indications. If you're level 10 and your pet is 5, it will catch up relatively quickly, assuming you're fighting enemies that you're on par with. A handful of pets start at under level five (moa Bird, striders, pre-searing bears, and pre-searing wolves). Someone said they got a pet spider, and those start at level 2. Stalkers, Lynx's, post-searing warthogs, snow wolves, post-searing bears, and Dune Lizards all start at five.

I guess it really depends on what you want, on whether or not you feel like levelling up a different pet. For Mo/R or any caster/R, I'd have to go with Moa Bird or the Bear, as they're known to be the most resiliant. The bear hits harder but slow, but the moa bird hits faster but weakly. The list goes on, I have yet to test a spider, but I intend to very soon. When I've had a fair amount of experience with it, I'll lend my opinion. I have a feeling it'll be weaker but fast.

If you want to be a serious Beastmaster, I suggest finding some BM Runes, the Tamer's Mask. I now have a level 16 Dune Lizard named Godzilla, and the skills that I highly recommend you have are Feral Lunge (induces bleeding) and Predator's Pounce (gains life for the pet). I'd say these two skills are essential for a good beastmaster. If you're monk secondary (or primary, as the case may be) you can consider the enchantment buffs that heal your pet when it attacks, takes damage, or give if defense/attack boosts. I've heard some people say that between pet buffs/attacks and monk buffs, on top of your normal damage, it's very impressive.

Note that pets don't seem to interrupt their current attack motion to execute an attack command like a player does (like if you hit Power Shot in the middle of your attack animation, you stop and start the power shot). For this reason, I don't recommend using the pet interrupts, they're difficult to time unless it's a long-casting spell.

You can get a spider in Pre Searing by the Fountain of healing. If you push futher on there are some that are Green.

according to the game, green spiders 'are not animals'. you can't charm them. -_-
