Might help us if you gave us your location, and how much you would be willing to spend.

On the budget range, how about an XFX 6600 (or 6600gt)? Nice cards, nice company, nicely overclockable, cheap. Suspect that's country invariant.

On the "living in a box outside the local mall" budget, a geforce fx 5200 (http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/department?department=11&sort=0&filterId=127&filterValue=128MB&filterId=157&filterValue=nVidia&filterId=306&filterValue=FX5200) will set you back about £30 / $60.

Country is relevant, he wanted links to online stores, and I know I would rather not pay international shipping fees on top of the price / wait that long for it to be delivered.

Oh, I can never find the 4xxx range, so I cant link to one for you, sorry! :)

Try newegg.com. Failing that, check out pricewatch.com. But if you use pricewatch, make sure to check out the site you choose on a review site, so you know that they provide good service.

Of course, if you're trying to buy locally the prices will be higher, but it'll be easier to return things if needed.

Didn't notice that he said GF4. Well, pricewatch is still a good bet for that, but newegg generally has better prices on higher end stuff rather than older goods.

I recommend ATI actually, they have a trade in program for your old card. Just order one of their cards online (there's two I think that are available with the trade in offer, they're pretty good cards too), say you want to do the trade in, and when you get the new card you ship your old one back to them and you get a rebate. It's a pretty big discount too.

Alright, it's kinda obvious that you dont know much about hardware. Sorry, I dont mean that in an offensive way, as most people dont. :)
This is what forums are for anyway, I'm gonna try to help you as I know a lot about this stuff :happy34:

Alright, the first step is checking what slots does your motherboard have (AGP4/8x probably in your case)

Ok, 1st of all, DO NOT GO WITH A GEFORCE 4. It's an ouddated card which is overpriced for its date and is not good at all!
First of all, what is your budget? You might wanna go with a 6600 GT (as already suggested), which comes both with AGP and PCI-E x16 slots.

6600 GT is roughly $175 for a good brand on www.newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130220

6600 GT would probably run close to max settings (not 1600x1200) on Guildwars.

If you want to stay on the cheap side, but lose much graphics (but probably still a HUGE improvement over what you have right now, as it is better than a Geforce 4)
This is if you want to stay on the cheap side. This Geforce 5500FX has a boost from its 256 memory.

However, if you want to go all-out performance, go for a 6800GT video card, which is roughly $325 minimum on newegg for a good EVGA brand.

I would not recommend ATI at the moment, because the 9800 series are now ouddated, and a 9800 pro is more expensive than a 6600 GT, despide the blatant fact (proven by various benchmarks), that the 6600 is superior. The 6600 GT also has all the new features such as 64-Bit Texture Filtering and Blending and pixel shader 3.0.

Just, dont go for a Geforce 4. If you need more in-depth help ask some questions.

Hope this helps :happy14:

Alright, in that case, this Geforce 5500FX would be the way to go.

Just out of curiousity, what's your current graphics card?

Wow, it's a no brainer why you are having shutdowns.
You have a crappy intel integrated into motherboard graphics processor.
That would probably be the reason you're having shutdown problems when graphics are intensified.
The problems should be solved when you get that video card though

Anyway, good luck, hope I helped. There are many forums out there that could help you set all of this up if you actually purchase it, such as www.hardforums.com

By the way, I don't have Guild Wars yet. My computer is too crappy to handle it, and I have three weeks and I'm finally getting a new computer, (building from scratch from parts) with a copy of Guild Wars! :happy65:

the older ati 9500 pro or 9700 pro seems nice, they're a little old, but still nice, since ati 9600 pro, which is what i got, benchmark lower than both card and i'm still able to get decent fram rate, i'm sure to 9500 and 9700 can handle GW w/ no problem at all.
both card should also be in ur budget range, around 100 - 150

Well he 90% chance doesnt have an AGP slot so he might want to go for a 9200SE. I dont really know much about PCI cards though...
