At the risk of sounding like a total newb - how the heck do you get fur squares? I keep hearing rumors of using an expert salvage kit on charr hides and maybe 5% of the time you'll turn out with a fur square. There has got to be a better way! Why is it that fur is the only element which is nearly impossible to find or make?

If you find out a better way, be sure to let me know, but it is true that an expert salvage kit on charr hides will produce fur squares, and that it is still a very rare item, so one 400g expert salvage kit might yield only one fur square. From the salvage table on GWOnline's site, it seems they are the only ones at this time that will produce it. I hope later in the game, more are available.

I will do that.

Admittedly this is a fantasy game, but wouldn't you think it would be easier to skin an animal to get fur than melt down swords, axes, etc to get iron ingots? :surprise:

Back to looking, and rolling the dice on an expert salvage kit. Aww heck, maybe I'll just go to Vegas - better odds.

I think I got one from a different kind of Hide the other day. I don't think it was a charr hide, maybe a centaur hide or Dolyak hide...but it's the first one I've ever gotten, and I've expert salvaged maybe 15 hides of varrying types.

I've got a feelign ANY type of hide will produce fur. Be it Charr, centuar etc
Not sure if the odds are different on them or not though.

OMG, I salvaged one!!! (doing my happy dance) :love30:
I found the charr hide on the Altheas Ashes quest amongst large groups of charr. Died getting it, but one of them salvaged down to a fur square. I'm a believer now - albeit an intermittent one.

Are Charr hides themselves pretty rare? I just started the game but have killed about 30 Charr outside of Piken square without a hide drop. Am I killing the wrong types of Charr mobs or do I just need to be more patient?

Thanks

ya, 4 char hides will get you 1 fur square at the collecter in ascalon next to merchants row, its the cheapest way of getting them thats for sure. char hides are kinda hard to come by tho

I had a centaur hide, only one, I was just doing the Wilds mission, and it expert salvaged to 2x fur squares. Hehe, nice, but not enough to get me that nice armor I wanted :(

I'm not sure if the patch tweaked this, but get 2-3 furs every 2-3 expert-salvages on high level hide drops (I'm level 19).

I've got 11 in the last two days without even really trying.

The fastest way I have come to acquire Fur is through Centaur Hides. I use an expert kit and can usually gather 2-3 furs every other salvage (other times produce skins). It seems to be a random determination on which item is produced. Good Luck.
