I am still trying to figure out what happened between the pre-searing and post-searing. I am still trying to figure out a lot about this game
Here is what I recall...
I picked my 2nd profession and was allowed to go into the Academy.
I suddenly find myself in a group with a timer counting down. No one in the group had any idea what was happening.
Doors open and we head out only to be mobbed by something (could not tell if it was PVP or if they were NPCs)...what I do know is we got our butts kicked.
It all made for a very confusing Friday night.
Can someone tell me what happened?
ya that was PvP. You then lead Rurik (I believe) and destroy some charr..
im not sure why we go into that last pre-searing mission to a PvP battle and how it relates to the story..if anyone can elaborate id appreciate it as well.

sir tydus tells you that you are about to go somewhere and you can't come back, in red text. when you enter it, the NPCs there talk to some length about what is about to happen. if you completely ignore them, yeah, you'll have no idea what's going on, and i can't really say i symapthize. if you don't take the time to read their text, why should we take the time to give you our own version? this doesn't just apply to you, but this is the third time i've seen someone ask "what just happened? i totally ignored everything and now i'm confused!"
that was pvp, by the way, supplemented with henchmen if there aren't enough players for a full 4v4.
I believe that ANet wants the users to have a little taste of mix of PVP and PVE prior entering the main game (this is all about PVP and PVE, isn't it).

Put it either way... my team lost the PVP i wonder if that effects anything....
It doesn't affect a thing, not even your stats for that one bout. The good thing is the next character you go sear with you'll be the one in the know. I lost my first round but the second we tore them up without a death, or even someone getting down to 50 health.
PvP is fun, go to the random group to get your feet wet, it doesn't really count and you lose nothing but can gain xp if you win.
Congrats on going post-sear.
Try it all and wait for groups and you'll have a blast.

I was quite happy to see myself dropped into PvP without really seeing it coming. I was worried about my W/Mo (first character, usually go melee with the first character in every MMORPG to get a feel for the game before rolling a mage), but pleasantly surprised to go in and absolutely lay waste to the other team. I don't think my side lost a person, and I never took enough damage to feel faint.
It was Saturday night. I was drunk. And it was awesome!
I just rerolled to do more pre-searing exploration since I hurried through the first go-round. Lol, I'm also ashamed to admit, after reading the forums, that I made a complete set of silver starter armor. I'm holding my dyes this time around.
Last MMO was Asheron's Call for a long, long time. I'm looking forward to a lot of fun in this incarnation, and have been pleased thus far.
I *read* Sir Tydus' warning and thought I was ready for the PvP except I realized that my team members were all henchies! Oddly enough, our team (I mean me) won against 4 players. tells you something ey? :p And yes, welcome to post-searing where it gets really rough at first. better use all that gold for some new hardware (meaning weapons, items, armor)!

Erm, it auto-balances the teams of real players. If 3 players all go post-searing at the same time, then you get split 2 vs 1 (with the extra slots on each team filling with henchmen) and so on. There is no way that you were with 3 henchmen and the other team had none, as 5 players would be split 3v2 not 4v1
Mzad.

Ah if that's true, I'm sure I was glossing people over and freaking out since I *thought* I had all henchies. Thanks for the explanation.
I love that quest. Our group had a small UT2k4 moment there when we suddenly realized we were all wearing blue capes and lined up on one side with a timer over head.
All that was needed was for someone to shout "Flak Monkey!"

I was under the impression that I was the only PC in the bunch
