View Full Version : Best way to distribute points?
Got a general strategy question for ya'll.
I read somewhere a while back that it's best to only sink your points into three stats so as to focus what you are good at. Is this true? How are people using the points to pump up their stats? There are skills I want to use that aren't one of the three stats I'm building up, and I don't want them to be gimpy so I want to drop a couple of points into a fourth stat to help them out.
Did that make sense? :)
Thanks!

well there is no good/bad attribute distribution.. it all depends on your build, best bet is to try it out and if it doesn't seem to be helping your build, you can always refund the pts and re distribute

Good to know. I definitely don't want to be a sheep and just do what people do cause, well...thats what people do. (says the guy who made a W/Mo) :) I'll experiement.
For the record I made the W/Mo BEFORE I knew it was FotM :D

There's three main ways to distribute your stats effectively:
1) Focus into only 2 stats. This ends up looking like 12, 12, and 3. Used only if you only have 2 attributes that have skills, or if for some reason you must squeeze everything you can out of two attributes and the rest don't matter.
2) Focus into 3 stats. This gets you 11, 10, 10 or so, and with a few bonus items can easily let the stats be pushed up to 12. A much more efficient distribution of points, with all the attributes still high enough to be effective.
3) Focus into 4 stats. I think this gets 9, 9, 8, 8. I'm not completely sure, as I haven't had a need to get 4 stats up that high yet (One of them may be at 10) I'd only recommend this if you really had a scattering of skills from different attributes and needed them all to be fairly effective, since it's noticably weaker than being a bit more focused.
Anything wider than that starts to have really low values, and more than likely isn't worth it unless you have a really unique build you want to try out.

I've got a 10-9-10-7 build that's more effective then most other builds. It all depends on how you build it, and why.

I'd say that in the beginning you shouldn't really worry about focusing or specializing your attributes too much. Especially since you have a very limited number of skills to choose from before you really start acquiring them, so not putting points into an attribute can really hurt your potential selection of skills. And since you get refund points, you can always take points out of an attribute later on if you decide you want to specialize more in a different attribute.
For example, I plan to eventually specialize my Necro/Ranger in Death Magic and Beast Mastery for the most part. However right now I also have points in Curses and Blood Magic so I can use the full compliment of Necro spells that I have. Once I get to level 20, I'll start backing down my Blood and Curses in order to increase my Death skill.
The general idea with focusing, though, is that you can only choose 8 skills out of about 80 anyway, so why not get the most out of those skills by taking them from only a small number of attributes, and pumping those attributes up as high as possible. Why spend 28 attribute points to get an attribute to level seven for just one skill, when you can use those same 28 points to go from level 9 to level 11 in an attribute, and affect several of your skills at once.
Wow, thats the answers guys!
I tired out my ideas last night and was thrilled with the results.
I was switching my N/E from mostly curses to mostly death magic and soul reaping (the other stat is fire magic for my Elem secondary). I still wanted to have some in blood magic for my life stealing. Soul Reaping + Anim. Bone Horror = awesome :)

You just need to reupload them and they'll work fine! After the new server was implemented the avatars got lost :P

Well as you are leveling a good tip too is remember you can change your attributes alot. I am a W/Mo who go from being a crowd control guy with spite and axe stuff, to a tank with swords and strength, to a healer depending on the mission and what I am doing. If I am unsure then I just build up healing, spite skills, stength and sword to be all purpose.
I find many people to be focusing too much on getting skills super high, when 4 to 6 points in some skill may be enough to give them a good edge. Remember at higher levels for skills, you can raise something like 6 levels for 1 level of a high level skill.
Then again, like all games like this, too many people are trying to power max and thus becoming one dimensional.
