I'm 12, my pet is 11, if I change pets and charm a new one, do I have to level it up or does it automatically take on a level due to my experience?

Hmmm, so that means spending time leveling a pet then if I want to change... Reminiscent of hiring a desert warrior in Diablo II and having to PL your hireling! Hopefully this is faster tho...
