Chaos Dmg and Dark Dmg

Is there any difference between a Mesmer staff does Chaos Dmg and a Blood Staff that deal Dark Dmg?

If there is a difference what is it please?

Some creatures are resistant to dark damage. Others to chaos.

It becomes more obvious after you start going through the Ascension quests.
