id like to know about this also? anyone have thoughts on this? lol
well i have a lvl 16 N/W currently and to be honest I am not sure if it is good at PVP or not. There are many necro primary haters out there that say necros are worthless in GVG battles and stuff. So when I heard that I lost all confidence in my character and I was thinking of starting a new one. I really don't want to do this AT ALL cause I like my N/W but i want a good PVP character. So im also interested in hearing peoples thoughts on this. :)
My primary roleplaying char is a necro/warrior, I use him in pvp with good results. i cant think of a build out of the blue, i use like 10 different builds and switch things up alot when i get bored. I would go with sword/axe with shield, but I use a hammer just because i like knocking people down.
one key thing about N/W, the three spells you always want. Vamp gaze, life siphon, life transfer. try to keep your blood magic at least 12.
ive had pretty good sucess with soem builds. I can take on warrior/monks 1 on 1 pretty easily, the only thing i have trouble with is killing monks.
good luck, if i remember, ill post a build later.
General idea is that N/W is great in arena, not so great in tombs or gvg. This is generally the idea that in a 1v1, a N/W is very powerful, but when the're outnumbered and focused, the lack of armor can be a real weakness o.o;;
I personally find blood and curse lines very useful in team pvp. Life transfer can be great in taking out some annoying warrior (or just about anyone really), and necro's are also the best at dis-enchantment, which is almost a necessity facing healer-heavy groups. Generally a necro plays a more support role, in terms of enfeebles, hexes, and dot's, and are particularly useful in weakening melee types. Death magic has a few skills I think could be useful (well of the profane in particular), but the corpse requirements can be a real restricting factor =\
In terms of the warrior sub in pvp, in arena wielding a good melee weapon can be useful in finishing people off (final thrust o.ob). In team based pvp, that melee damage really doesn't add up to much, but you can still find some use in terms of knockdowns and interrupts to help shutdown casters. Tactics stances and the extra defense from a shield can also be great^^ (but you do sacrifice it for the extra energy of a focus).
In general, necro's in pvp are great for neutralizing melee. necro skills, backed with a good ranger and/or mesmer, can really frustrate warriors in what they can do and since warriors are getting pretty popular these days, necro's definitely have their uses in a team^^

I think W/N works better than N/W.
I dont think that W/N is better than N/W because of the energy. A N/W has two extra energy regen bars and 10more base energy wich realy do mean alot for a supporting N/W of course if you want to be a prime tank then maybe a W/N with curses would be usefull!

N/w are my favorite necro combo so far, & i've done N/mo & N/me as well. There is just no feeling on earth quite like it! ; )

I have a level 15 N/W (hammer) and I love my guy. I admit there were times I got completly owned in PVP and I didn't think I should continue but trust me, when you get your strategy down and realize your role, it can be great. I always hang back and wait for the warriors to start fighting, then I hit some DOT's and weaken armor and rush in and start bashing skulls. Most Elementalist, monks and rangers tend to be easy prey otherwise I go straight for the warriors (I HATE WARRIOR PRIMARIES), they always think I'm easy prey because I'm a necromancer, until hit them with backbreaker and start sucking their lives out.
General idea is that N/W is great in arena, not so great in tombs or gvg. This is generally the idea that in a 1v1, a N/W is very powerful, but when the're outnumbered and focused, the lack of armor can be a real weakness o.o;;
not necessarily, most necro warriors focus on 1v1 skills as life sucks, and sword attacks and all that. I have actually done quite well in tombs using a blood/death/hammer approach. In arena there arent that many corpses so its not that effective, but in 6v6 and 8v8 games death magic is nearly as good as pvp once corpses fal. lots of rezzes occur meaning more corpses also.
My arena pvp build atm is.
sword/shield
blood magic 10 +2
soul reaping 4 +1
swordsmanship 11
tactics 9
196/200
my skills are.
vamp gaze
life siphon
life transfer
sever artery
galrath slash
pure strike
shield stance
ressurection signet
what i usually do is start off by using life siphon on two targets to gain hp regen. go in battle and attack whatever, i ususally wait till im being attacked to use life transfer, but if i know im not gonna be hit i use it for damage on the main target anyway. if im being focused life siphons + transfer + shield stance really make me hard to full. and vamp gaze also helps the dmg. I find this combo pretty effective. I also sometimes switch out pure strike and glarath slash for other things as needed.
My tomb build is a little wierder.
blood magic 10 +2
death magic 10 +1
soul reaping 5 +1
hammer mastery 10
198/200
life siphon
animate bone horror
poison nova
taste of death
tainted flesh
irresitable blow
mighty blow
ressurection signet
this build could use more refining but it work quite well. once the battle starts i use life siphon for hp regen and try not to get in the heat of the battle till someone dies. I use tainted flesh to spread disease around the enemy without getting it on my team, and i use taste of death for hp and a trigger to poison nova. if worked right half of the enemy team usually has -8 degen from my spells alone. not only that but i can summon alot of pets later in the battles and do some pretty nice damage with only 2 hammer skills.
My only character is a necro/warrior and ive been pretty succesful in pvp.
blood is fine and all but reni has it right. in pvp curses can do a lot more than a life transfer or siphon. we all know curse are great verse melee but they can also hurt casters with malaise and wither which are both exceptional skills. after curses i like death magic. i love tainted flesh, seeing a whole team diseased and monks frantically trying to heal/mend :happy14: . just don't let your team get diseased too :p so cast it on everyone before the battle.
well of profane is also a great skill as reni has mentioned. the energy cost is a problem but finding a corpse isn't all that hard in tombs. the place of the corpse could be a problem. well of profane like all other aoe really shine when you get to HoH though. you'll need it believe me... a lot of builds for tombs contain lots of enchantments. reversal of fortune/healing seed/amity/life bond etc....
