View Full Version : Better helm for a ranged warrior?

I'm trying to decide between the Brute's helm (Armor 50 + 20% against physical attacks) or the Wyvern helm (Armor 55 + 10% against physical attacks)

Being a ranged warrior, I'm wondering whether I will be more prone to magic attacks and therefore should go for the Wyvern's helm for overall better protection.

Also, if someone has a better helm for a ranged warrior (other than the gladiators helm - I already have one) please let me know what it is and where I can find it....

Thanks!

Ranged warrior? What weapons do you use?

I'm a W/R... I use a bow and a full set of gladitor armor... that's why I don't want a gladiator helm - I've got plenty of energy and would rather boost strength or some otehr attribute

Wyvern, if you are ranged, less likely for melee attacks to reach you, therefore you dont need the physical defense as much.

Exactly.

When you choose your armor, figure out what type of attack you're facing most likely and choose the appropriate armor.

If you're fighting at range, it's possible you're not getting attacked very much at all - I'd go for Gladiator's armor. You'll have more energy for special attacks.

Personally I think it's a bad idea to use a W/R as a ranged attacker. Compared to a R/W, you may have stronger armor, but your energy, energy regen, and energy efficiency (ranger Expertise skill) is much worse - meaning you won't be able to do nearly as much damage.

Fighting at range and having really powerful armor means you will survive a really long time and rarely die - but you'll find yourself as the last surviving party member. This may sound good, but being the last surviving party member usually means your party has failed in whatever PVP or PVE mission you were attempting.

Anyway, that's just my personal philosophy on the matter. I think a lot of newbie W/Mo users suffer from the same problem: lacking teamwork-oriented skills while simultaneously not having enough damage output to justify that lack of teamwork.

I won't tell you not to do anything. As I think no one should say anything about what you want to do.

I never thought to make a W/R, but if you want to do it. I would say most of the warrior armor is high enough to take out melee, so go for the one thats 85 all. That would just help you against elemental.

Let us know how it goes.

I have had great success in PvE, and have yet to try PvP...

With the gladiator's armor, and a bow that provides +5 energy (which I managed to stumble upon) the energy is not a substantial problem (at least so far), plus with a strength bonus I think I'll have a decent ranged combatant. I am at level 12 at the moment, and if I find that the ranged is not working out, I'll switch to a heavier armor and hit some melee.
