View Full Version : Not taking a second profession?
Is it possible to play a pure class in pve? I'd like to, just for the feel of it, but it seems that I have to take a secondary profession to be admitted to the Academy at the end of Pre-Searing. Is it possible to get past this somehow?
Thanks!

You HAVE to take a second class. Theres no way around it. However, it doesnt mean you actually have to use your second class. You could choose to ignore it completely if you wanted to.

Bejebus is right.
Just pick Rangerism and get yourself a pet. You don't have to really put any points into it, and it's good at drawing the heat in battle. (this is what I do, besides this one ranger skill, I'm pure Necro) :D

Yup. I do the same thing with my Mo/R. Just took the ranger for the pet to get some of that heat away from me.
Aww, that's too bad. Guess I'll do the Ranger thing, or maybe a monk secondary just for Res.
Thanks for the fast responses guys.

Go for the pet and use the resurrection signet.. that's what I do and then if the healer happens to die I just res her and let her bring anybody else back. I'm running straight domination mesmer with a pet and I'm liking it a lot. I think for my next character I'm going to run a straight ranger and just make him a beastmaster, don't know how it will do but it sounds fun to try.

I wouldn't suggest using a pet especially in PvP on a caster because of several reasons: If you only bring charm animal, you have no way of reviving your pet. If your pet dies, all your skills are temporarily disabled for several seconds, rendering you useless. Instead, how about be a Mo secondary, and maybe be a secondary healer when needed.
The damage the pet deals also depends on your beast mastery level. Having 0 in BM is like using a sword with 0 in swordsmanship.
Pets suck anyways.
Well that depends what you do with your pets. If you don't use any pet skills, or pet calls, then yeah pets are nothing more than glorified, longer lasting bone horrors. Pets working in tandem with your attacks though using pet skills become quite useful, especially considering pet skills can be activated at any time, even during your own spell casting.

I think you're overlooking something important here. In PvE having a second profession also gives you as many quests to fulfill. That means XP. Everybody needs XP in PvE. ^^

my "suck" pet, has kept me alive long enough to kill off enemies more times than I can count, even if it is just fodder, when it gets surrounded by monsters I can cast an area spell around it and take out 4 baddies at a time.....gee....too bad they suck though...
