Tonight, after hitting level 15, I finally made it to Lion's Arch!
The group started out strong, and we powered through the first part of the Gates of Kryta mission. We had a Mesmer who felt that he should be the one to attack first every time, so needless to say he racked up a couple deaths within the first few minutes. He got settled in, and let me, the Warrior/Monk/Massive tank, draw the crowds. With the help of a Smitting Monk, we powered our way through the first half, and through the bonus. Sadly, the bonus was bugged, so we never got to finish it, but I had already done it, so I wasn't too upset. We knocked out the beach in a few minutes, and got to the hard part.
The swamp is where I wiped in my previous 6 times. My groups those times were pretty dumb, and this time was no different. We worked our way through, and got to the chokepoint, when everyone died, except myself and a Mesmer. We ran back, regened, and tried to take out the three remaining mobs. The Mesmer dropped like a ton of bricks, and with a few timely Healing Breezes, and a perfectly timed Endure Pain, followed by a quick Orison of Healing, I knocked out the 3 mobs. I ran out of the poisoned water, and managed to regen. At one point, I was as low as 6 HP.
I used Ressurect on one member at a time, dropping a Healing Breeze when they spawned, so the poison wouldn't get them. After we were healed, we took out 2 more mobs, and then headed for the final boss. He dropped fast, and we marched our way to 1000 experience, 1 skill point, and an invitation to Lion's Arch!

P.S. For anyone who wants to bash W/Mo's, please, do so. The only reason our crappy group was able to finish was because we had a good W/Mo with us.

Now now. People don't bash W/Mo's, or at least they shouldn't. They bash BAD W/Mo's, which they should.

Agreed, since I am one. The problem is that those that do bash just tend to lump us all into one group. It is the player, not the build.
Proof: Going to Lion's Arch (I was helping a friend) we got mobbed. Why? Because my N/Wa friend seems to get off on attracting attention to himself. I was yelling at him. Also, he must think DPs are cool because he kept standing in the poison water. Even after I told him "STAY OUT OF THE WATER."
So, It is the player, not the build.
------------> It only gets worse after LA so keep that GOOD W/Mo with you if you can.

I am gonna have to agree: it is the player not the build. Someone should gank that mesmer for being an idiot, gives the rest of us mesmers a bad name. Wa/Mo's are a necessity, I even broke down and played one. I still think they are overpowered though. Maybe not for PVP but for PVE.
Hey, a good W/E is just as invincible. It's the riverside province and the only things that can do more than 5 damage to me are mesmers and necromancers (which also plague W/Mos). I see 0 damage so often I almost panic when I see something higher. O.O;

I've seen 0 damage come from enemy players (HUMAN PLAYERS!!) when I was testing out a build.
I live for nearly 30 seconds against a full team of 8 players (with monks, mesmers, eles, that works). A human team of 8! Alone!

heh...kinda sounded like my group....getting wiped out in the swamps (that patrol group of archers/mesmer that come along).
I was the only survivor (ele/ranger), and told them to stay in. I pulled a bunch back up to the mantle npcs (incl 2 priests) and cleared it out.
Problem was, all of them except one left the game. I suppose they were too impatient to wait the 4 mins it took me to clear those monsters away before I could use my res sig.
to get through there it's not as bad as it seems. Getting to justicar can be done easily enough just by racing off after a point.
keep the justicar alive till the bridge, then use the while mantle at the edge of the poisoned swamp to kill your enemies. I usually order the group to stay behind them on the hill, while i run out, plink one of the skeletons or whatever - doesnt matter the class, use any ranged wep - then run back. The mantle do a pretty good job. tearing through the crowd, and taking hits. When you're finally down to the boss, a sorcerer and the horseman, they're easy enough, and backed up on the land - you can stall at the edge of the landing till poison wears off the party and you're all at full health before engaging.
I dont think W/Mo are bad at all. It makes sense that that's the first combo a person thinks. Hmm, take a lot of damage, tanking ability, can kill with right moves - eureka!
Most warriors do play quite dumb though. That said meele is my favorite manner of attack in most games - even iron maiden infested diablo ii...
problem with most warriors is that they dont realize that by initiating combat at meele, the detection circle is closer to enemies around the group to be engaged. Smarter warriors i've seen learn to pull by using a spell, or weapon switch.

There's a severe flaw with the "pull with wand / spell" tactic. Most other warriors will think you're initiating an attack and, well, rush in blindly and die. Running in and then running back out to pull is better, and faster, and people will think you're pulling since there's no attack.

This is precisely why my W/M always carries a longbow as a secondary weapon. For pulling. Of course, it is a good idea to tell your party that you're pulling, so they don't rush in.

My W/Mo also carries a bow for pulling monsters, and uses it quite frequently. Unfortunately, since I am almost always with henchmen instead of humans, it doesn't help in all situations. But it does make life easier, and if I can find a place where the monsters can't get to me at all, I can fire away, and they eventually die with no fuss.
EDIT: Congratulations on making it to Lion's Arch.
Personally, I prefer to walk everywhere. I've only reached one place so far by not walking, and that's Fort Ranik.

just did that one today...two random parties before were very poorly made...one had 5 warriors and a nec =\, the other...no one following the party leader. The third time I loaded up on smiting and with symbol of wrath and judges insight (+cyclone), I was a walking bomb of holy damage :D. The bonus was bugged for us too =\

Is it me or wasnt this mission easy...seemed like all the missions are easy..cept now im in the crystal dessert, and cant get a group for elona's...

I am so glad you think the missions are easy before the crystal desert......in fact they are easy and should be teaching you the basics of teamwork....unfortunately most people don't grasp this idea and call others n00bs etc......
let me stress this...from the desert on, teamwork is essential especially in the ascention missions....if your team fails everyone played a part in the failure...granted some more so than others but still....
i play as the ever popular fire ele and the often abused and maligned monk....i also lost in elona 3 times just helping a guildie out as my monk...i was never such a noob as then.....after failing the 3rd time i gave up and just went for a skill capture...called a warrior guildie and he and i and 4 henchies proceeded to get the elite monk skill there and then successfully complete the mission with no deaths and 4 mins to spare.....I am still a noob...got much more to learn before i know it all

Yeah i just finished it...seems that most failures are do to many warriors who dont look at radar and aggro circle when engaging a group. I teamed with all rangers, eles, and a monk and we got the job done very easily, we could have done bonus easily too but we didnt.

Hell, I tried grouping a mission with 8 warrior monks once just for fun. Then and only then did I truly understand how moronic most of the w/mo's are. 75% of them didnt even have any self healing...it was disgraceful. Big suprise that we didnt succeed in the mission. They didnt even have shields up for the group. Ah well, dont get me started.
