View Full Version : Mes/war War/mes whats the diff?
I'm curious in the different play styles of the 2.
Being a Mes/warrior... I find myself running thru the enemies defenses to hit their support casters by disabling them with Empathy and Backfire... which leaves them with a delima.... Stand still and get struck by a super fast Illusionary weapon or try to attack back and deal more damage to yourself.... running is out of the question since i can sprint and when it comes to a warrior... just use distortion and hope to hit him enough.
But with a War/mes.. how do you play?
I have nothing at all in my warrior sub classes so as to maximize the full potential of my illusionary and domination spells... :/
hmm... Warrior/mesmers usualy just use Conjure phantasm and the likes to get some extra - Health regen on their enemy.
I guess if you got one with enough energy, it could use illusionary weaponary and the likes, but it doesn't realy have enough.
I would much rather have a Me/W , because: more energy, Faster cast speeds, and you can just use mantras to protect yourself :)
All depends i guess. if you have a low mana cost for your mesmer skills, W/Me may be the way to play, but if you use alot of spells, go Me/W

the othr thing is as a war/mes you arent going to be targetted as fast as if you are a mes/war
You can catch people off guard as a W/Me. As a Me/N I had a W/Me attack me so I Empathy/Faintheartedness as I would do any Warrior. But then he casted backfire and Energy Burn on me which cought me off guard. He still ended up going down though.
The Lack of power is it's main draw back, but you should beable to get closer to their Mo vs a good team.

If W/Me (in Theory, not experience), you should take the inspiration skill tree. Your energy pool is small on this build, so for the benefit of a warrior primary, you should dedicate 2 skill slots to increasing/gaining energy if you want a balanced build.
That's if, of course.
With energy stealing from ispiration at 12 or so, you can cast ( I forget)..... as an interrupt and get 25 enrgy for spending 5. It's a recharge and interrupt in one at minimal cost. I another non-interrupt skill gives 13 for 5. that leaves
6 skills.
Ineptitude as the elite will cauise blindness in attacking foes. Now you can own other warriors. Or just ignore them now and run at the casters.
A certain sword skill can ( I forget again) will interrupt a caster...
Blackout, would be great cause it turns off an enemies skills. It's under domination though.
My skill tree would be Sword, Inspiration (most important of all available skills) and maybe illusion to furthor screw with others.

Advantages vs Disadvantages:
Me/W:
Negative: Paper thin armor, useless in 1 on 1 battles versus other warriors.
Lose out on strength attribute. Fast Casting isn't a great plus for you especially if you focus on melee attacks
Positive: Huge energy pool that allows you to spam certain skills
W/Me:
Negative: HUGE lack of energy, usually halfway into the battle you will find yourself without energy and unable to cast your enchantments such as Illusionary Weaponry, basically screwing yourself over
Positive: Strength attribute that helps a bit (not THAT much, overrated!! :p )
Decent armor versus melee and all damage in general.
Overall, I would suggest go with W/Me if you learn to balance your energy and what to do in case of shortage. You will survive sustantially longer with Warrior Primary in most situations. Use a focus instead of shield + full glads
If you have energy problems, go with Mesmer but bring Bonetti's. Make sure you use a shield.

Mes/w Makes up for the lack of Amour class with Distortion.
Just gotta remember to hit the button when the stance is gone...
