Quick Question here - couldn't find an answer doing quick cusory search so please forgive me if it has been answered:

Is a "Hex Spell" considered a spell for hexes such as Backfire or spells like Power Shock etc.? I seem to be getting conflicting damage like Backfire does work and Power Shock (i think that is what it is called) doesn't. I don't see any consistency - but am probably missing something.

On a side note, does fast casting affect Troll Ungent as well?

hex spells are ongoing negative enchantments... basically if they last over time its a hex, if its a one-time thing its not. but yes, they are spells.

Fast Casting does not affect Troll Unguent (not a spell). Hexes are Spells, and should be affected by all spell-modifying skills. If it doesn't, then it's a bug. What is Power Shock? Is that an actual Mesmer skill? I don't recall the name.

Skills can be:
Regular, Signet Rings, Attack Skills, Preparations, Stances, Spells, Shouts

Spells can be:
Regular, Hex, Enchantment

so yes, hex spells are considered spells so backfire would trigger if someone used it.

Fast casting affects the casting time of spells and as you can see, its not in the category of spells, its a regular skill.

Hex spells are still spells. Backfire et al apply to them.

Fast Casting only affects spells. Troll Ungruent is a skill, not a spell.

Too late. oh well.

Extra super happy fun fact of the moment: Blackout isn't a spell. Fast casting, backfire, and spell breaker are all ineffectual against it.

Yup, blackout would be too powerful if it was a spell, if you ask me. It'd be WAY too easy to keep someone 100% locked down that way.

I think you mean it wouldn't be as powerful if it was a spell, as it stands Blackout lets you lock down a target without taking damage from Backfire (perhaps a person's only means of escape).
