View Full Version : Need help defeating an 8 monk team
My guild was battling this korean team with 8 monks, and we were totally blown away, they had 5 smithing, using signet of judgement, bane signet, and various other smithing skills, while the rest were healing or protecting. We didn't manage to kill even 1 of them. Is there a counter-strategy to defeat this kind of team build?

wörd.. :} heh.. I've been thinking of a monk team too.. though its to easy to counter.. :|
Mesmers. Mesmers and Necromancers.
Any specific/typical skills to use? They are very organised, also if caught in this situation, who would you target first?
energy and skill denial mesmer skills will own any monk without an ele primary, as they can't use their spells with no mana. Denial/interrupt mes's can also wreak havok with monks, but requires a helluva lot more skill as many monk healing spells fire in 1 second or less making them hard to interrupt.
I'd think backfire + energy denial on the 3 healer monks, and enchantment stripping/rending + interrupt/denial for the smiters would render a team like that innefective.
Of course, the anti-monk team would have to be organized and efficient. That, or the monk team would have to be disorganized and inneficient ;)
With 3 healer monks you'd prolly need a minimum of 2 really good denial mes's working in perfect harmony, or just one mes to every healer monk.
Oh, and that one skill "Rust" would do a number on those smiters using signets left and right.
another option is to go with a team less enchantment heavy and counter their stuff with multiple casts of the ranger skill Nature's renewal. Almost all of their damage sources are enchantments. Remove those and they fall. Nature's renewal imo is an overlooked skill begging for a team to be built around it.
lmao, you got raped by an 8 monk team?
haha thats rediculous, 8 monks have literraly no dmg output.
Also they are tottaly inflexiable since they have acess to very few other skills, not to mention that they cannnot counter or respond to any specific strategies.

Smiters do damage what are you talking about. And there's the fact that monk teams aren't something you see very often so you have to think strategies to beat them on the spot. But while you're doing that you're getting knocked down by sig of judgement and pounded on by the smiters, while your team does almost nothign to them in turn.

Only problem with NR is the long cooldown time.
Well of Profane. Sacrifice someone and then res them back up and bam. No monk enchantments.

Maybe if your are noob to stand in 3 baltha auras, and 2 symbol of wraths while attacking through shield of judgement.
But mostly smiting has no response to non attack damage or hexes (yes smite hex, but thats a 15cd and it should be hard to cover hexes with parasitic bond).
Yes ive played a team like this except they used like 5 el/mo smiters and 3 mo/e's, and yeah they got destroyed, it took us some time but i cannot in any way call it a good strategy to run a full smiting team.

Suggestion: use a spellchecker.

Me and my HoH friends took out a team of 8 gay-@$$ monks trying to be 'cool' with this build: 4 Ele's, 1 Mes (Best damn mesmer in game!), and 3 Monks. Those kids got spiked SO bad. And if the mes can find a healer monk that's good so he can blackout!!

Does the name Zealot's Fire ring a bell? A couple monks with ranks in Smiting prayers on top of Healing/Protection could really do some hurt.
