But what is in Fissure that is worth going for?

great drops and great armor if you reach the armor guy who sells the 15K armor or so ive heard havent made it to him yet

Actually FoW is more know for xp. It's a lot easier to do quests IMO.
Also FoW drops shards which most people need for thier 15K armour.

why do people only do something in this game if they can get some reward out of it?

is it not in anyway rewarding to play these areas for the challenge and the teamwork they demand? thats the main reason i play underworld and fissure.

I tend to get better drops out of fissure than UW. Smite runs give those eternal shields and bows. Fissure gives wingblade swords, shadow shields, and chaos axes almost immediately.

There are creatures in the Underworld called "Smite Crawlers" and they use monk-based moves like shield of Justice and other misc. annoying moves, but they drop exclusive weapons, shields, and ectoplasm which you can sell to the rare material traders for allot of cash.

many creatures in underworld drop ectoplasm including aatxes, grasping darknesses, coldfires and mindblades.

regarding smite running. this is a trend that alot of people have gotten into and its basically farming 1 type of enemy for items that only drop from a very small number of creatures in the game.

the only creatures that have a chance to drop eternal items, storm bows, ghostly staves are ethereal enemies. in underworld these are smite crawlers and banished dream riders. you can tell they are ethereal because they are transparent and glow. in fissure only the banshees around the wailing lord have a chance to drop these items.

banished dream riders are nasty and theres relatively few of them meaning its not great to farm them.

underworld basically consists of a central hub called the labyrinth and 6 shrines that branch off it. the ice wastes shrine contains a large number of smite crawlers which can easily be killed with a group of body blocking warriors and elementalists with area of effect damage spells like meteor shower and firestorm.

what a number of players have tended to do is to ignore all quests (bar the first which is necessary to open up the exits from the labyrinth) and all other shrines, clear a path from the labyrinth to the ice shrine. then farm the smite crawlers. quit out. repeat. with an organised group that knows what they are doing you can do a single run in about 25 minutes.

this is what a smite run is.
