View Full Version : So do you think something should be done about the lame ranger spirit build?

No I'm not talking about just lots of spirits and such.
I'm talking about Greater Conflag, Winter, plus everyone on the team being mesmer secondary with Mantra of Frost.
Effectively they are running life barrier on the entire team, without the energy degen, without the % life requirement of the monk, and without enchants that can be removed. We though of running Edge to kill the spirits, but with an all ranger team (other than monks) they can put them up as quickly as we can kill them.
So... ya.
I don't really see a counter for this, unless you run an all Warrior team and end all their stances of Mantra. And that is just retarded. Plus Mantra recharges in 20 seconds. Not to mention the fact that the Monks (well everyone really) has an endless supply of energy due to all the damage being water. Since they get 1 energy for everytime they take water damage.

Damage Over Time? Holy/Dark/Chaos Damage by passes that too doesn't it?

No. All damage becomes fire then water.

No. All damage becomes fire then water.
All physical damage becomes fire(GC), than all elemental damage becomes water/cold(Winter).
If holy, dark, or chaos isn't considered elemental then thats your solution.
well my guild ran this "lame" build and we were doing well until we came across a disease/putrid explosion group....

Actaully, I said that in a form of a statement, just didn't want to be rude.
For example, balthazar's aura will always do it's listed damage no matter what armor lvl u have on. Same thing with putrid explosion ect..
Greater conflag will only turn PHYSICAL damage into elem which gets turned into cold damage. This has ZERO effect on poison/DOT, which I often use against those high armored enemies such as W/E with earth of armor. Same thing with Smiters using balthazar's aura or holy strike or necros using vamp gaze/shadow/putrid. The easiest way is to use judge's insight BTW.
Its fairly easy to beat these builds :) .
All i'm going to say is DoT's and AoE dmg on spirits.

Actually they are, when the team is 5 R/Me and 3 Mo/Me.
They can put spirits up as fast as we can kill them with 5 Rangers and Oath shot.
DOT will work, however if you are running in tombs and no one has Martyr you are just asking for it.
Any build is "easy to beat" when there are morons playing it. Its the skilled teams you should concern yourself with. Like when EA is running this.

spirit builds are hilarious, i love the feeling when you run out into the battlefield and they arent anywhere to be found and you finally see them at their base with a bunch of spirits stacked everywhere, this has happened to my guild twice in the past few days, both times we did pretty much the same thing and won
we dropped EoE and ran in and attacked their spirits, after killing a few spirits they will all be dead. Now you say they can put them back up just as fast? guess what, every spirit takes 5 seconds to cast so while they do that its pretty much free time to unload on them. Chances are they will all put down more than one, so thats even more time. Because they are all rangers putting down spirits like you said, during this time they have no DPS.
With edge of extinction the group should either be constantly putting down spirits or have no spirits at all, both gimping them. make sure to say 'gg'

guess what, dont expect to be able to beat one of the top guilds no matter what build they run, they are better than you. Every group has a counter but if your up against a guild that is hands down just BETTER than you, they are probably gonna win. This has nothing to do with spirit builds being overpowered

we were discussing counters to spirits the other night in TS.
came up with some few dorky builds that were quite funny to watch yet very very good. all the IW supporters can cheer becasue you all were on the money with this one
There's a fun counter that lets you kill them through the spirits, so long as you keep Fertile Soil down. Try 3 hammer W/Mo, 2 R/Me interrupt/drainers, and 3 Mo/Me with Inspiriation for drains and Smiting for Balths' Aura and Judge's Insight. Keep Fertile Season down, pin down a monk and wrap your warriors around them, have each monk cast JI on a seperate warrior followed immediately by Balth's Aura. This has gotten me accused of hacking a few times lately, which I understand to mean I'm doing something right.
Great part is that if you get the right set of skills you can run the team against air spikes, ranger spirit spam, and earth spikes reliably. Make sure and get a very skilled prot/smite monk, and understand that spike builds with heavy hexes can probably own you.

What a worthless comment. Maybe you should just quit, since you can never be on top?
Fact is, we do beat some of the higher up guild teams.
I am finding more and more that posting here is getting to be worthless. All I end up hearing is, "This one time we played a spirit build, and pwned them. GG."
So I promise not to ask for intelligent responses ever again. :happy34:

the average player seems to be unable to comprehend the finer mechanics of the game. i normally think of these people as perma-newbs. its sort of like a personality trait and they don't possess enough intellect in real life to hope to do well in a MMO-esque environment.
a bunch of them come to the boards and type stuff, but actually say nothing at all.
maybe one day someone would make a game where you have to pass randomized tests that are generated to ensure that the people playing possess a certain level of common sense before moving foreward.

Oh and Testiment:
IW? Wouldn't that just be terrible with Rangers with Natures?
Yeah lol, its called kill the spirits.
not to mention that spirits take 5 seconds to place which is easy to interupt.
Basically your complaint to me looks like this " I am a noob so nerf this build because they killed my team".
Ok so what? We lost to an edge of extinction build in HoH today  But you dont hear me complaining, instead we work on what to do diffrently.

I remember running a Greater Conflag/Winter build with all mantras. It was one of my guilds first builds actually (a couple guildies made it in February IIRC). The problem was, there was a problem. I dont think that Greater Conflag/Winter worked together, because with Mantra of Frost there is no way we should have taken as much damage as we were. I think it was calculated differently. Glad to hear it is fixed.
Anyway, this build really isnt hard to beat. As Hurin said. Attack the spirits. Odds are they dont have more than 2 copies of any given spirit, 3 max i'd say. Personally when I'm playing my water ele, I just drop a Maelstrom on a spirit and it dies. And if their monks waste energy on healing the spirits, that means just attack the spirits then change targets to a monk once they get weak.
Also spirits gain decreased benefit from healing, (maybe half, maybe even less, but deffinetly hard to heal them)

Thanks for the flame Hurin. Shows maturity really it does.
At any rate, what everyone seems to be missing is 6 rangers, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5.... 6. Which means if you spend your time with EoE, they could have all their spirits back up in, you guessed it ... 5 seconds.
Its not that they are insanely powerful, and will kill you instantly. The problem lies in the fact they could just force it into a depressingly long standoff.
Once again, my comment of "not asking for intelligent responses again" stands.
Oh and Testament, don't give the IW'ers false hope. They have it bad enough as is.

dirtycash, you have been banned from these forums for 4 days. The only one flaming here was you. You will be allowed to return after 4 days, but not before. If you make a second account, both of your accounts will be banned, and you will not be allowed to return to these boards again.
My guild I consider to be a top ranked guild. When we got together for the E3 event, with a group we are able to quickly climb the ladder. Since then, we have not done any gvg except a few good off matches with henchman. During the beta events we finished in the top 25 each time.
We have beaten top guilds. One of the top 10 guilds right now we have beaten twice and I know they are better guilds but we happen to have a build that countered them really well.
I will agree that skill level has a good part of deciding the winner, but that is not all of it. A better guild can easily lose to a guild that had a build that could counter them. My guild has also lost to nearly unranked guilds certainly not because of skill level.
