View Full Version : Tomb Battles
Just a quick question, Why is it so hard for some people to follow targets? If everyone on the team would follow target(s), you would win more often, It's not that hard to hit T, then your space bar and keep on him till he's/she's dead or till target is changed.
It isn't that hard.
its not hard at all, the people you play with are either using a different strategy or are braindead.

Its not that people arent "locking" on your target rather than the target wont go down. People must be organized in their attacks to take em down quick and it is a common misconception that if the target doesnt die, everyone must not be targeting it...
But if you have witnessed it that they are attacking others, than they are yes braindead, but its very few people who do that. If you play with them frequently then start getting a better team going with better ranks etc.
Whether this is relivent here or not, Id like to bring up that some players benefit the team more by not following the called target.
A monk that heals and protects should probably not be paying attention to targets but to others life bars.
Mesmers or rangers that disrupt will help more toggling through targets to find a threat and stopping it.
Warriors can some times be more effective body blocking an enemy up front rather than pulling that enemy back to aggro another teammate.
Of course, focus attacking its often the best kind.
However, sometimes if the "whole" team isnt attacking the one target, it could be that other members are doing other things that are just as important to the survival of the team.
Personally example: I play a ranger that brings disruption shot for the sole purpose of stopping the other team from rezzing his teammate. Once a foe goes down I toggle through to see if anyone wants to rez, and I stop it. Im not following a called target but ive saved our team a lot of trouble.

Yeah we were up against a 2 monk team in 4v4 team arena last night and I just stayed alternating between the 2 monks poisoning and disrupting to eat their heals and attention and it made winning 10x easier as both already had something to deal with + the other guys on my team bashing them.

Following targets doesn't always work. The best teams i've been on have always used their own in-game decision on what targets to use. We only call targets when it's important stuff like throw dirt, cripple or res. It's very common for me playing in 4on4 as my ranger to constantly switch targets. First of all, to access what the other team is doing, secondly to paint everyone green so the monks will have to constantly cast mend ailment.
Plus, sometimes if u follow someone's called target you end up stopping some very important thing you're doing and run way across the map and getting killed in the process.
As an example, say 4on4. If i run into a 3-4 warrior team, they often target me first for some reason, and when they do (assuming their team follows target) I end up having 3 blined warriors chasing me around the map while the remaining member gets wailed on by the rest of my team. Strickly Follow targets are only really good when you're a spiker team. Alot of times it's better to split targets (divide and conquer style).
i hate people that dont follow orders especially good ones.
"attack the monks first"
so what do they do, attack the elementist

Usually the people who try to bark orders are the ones who cause the most strife during a match, know it all alpha players who think they know everything and what should be done with out a seconds thought that they might be wrong. Attack the monk is not always right, cause some person with a one track mind saw it work once or twice that its automatically right. Monks are learning how to counter now and they know that they may be the first on the chopping block. Being flexible and open to options will go further than "look a monk kill kill kill". Im a primary Ranger and Ele as a ranger I make my own targets poison and bleed first are my first priority. As and ele if im being attacked by warriors which is always i dont care about ur target when im fighting to stay alive myself cause the warriors abandoned all reason to run for the target u called leaving monks and everyone else open to kill for ur one prize targets. Others were right sometimes their are other important jobs to be done fix on one target and kill if he doesnt go down seperate. Calling targets is an up in the air situation at first of the battle when u see everyone pick their targets and who has more damage take the ones who are most wounded and down them first, target that way if anything.

Sorry, but everyone attacking one target is probably the stupidest thing ever.
Sure, it works for spike builds. That's why its good right? Wrong.
Spread out and deal damage. Monks only have 8 skills, probably out of those 8, 4 or 5 are heal spells. If you're dealing damage to his entire group, he'll be up his arse in clocks, and he's not sure who to heal. Then, hit the monk while hes confused and watch him panic.
If you're attacking a monk the whole time, chances are all he'll do is run, heal, run, heal, run, heal.
You're not getting anything done, and his team is killing yours.
On the other hand, if the monk runs and u were to change targets and start hitting the ele, the ele is guna start taking dmg. Now either the monk comes back and gets hit, or the ele dies.

Exactly...a good caller will call a new target every 10 seconds or so. That way, the monks have to switch targets all the time and cast a lot more, effectively draining their energy without actually draining it. The only characters that should stay on one or two targets are the mesmers and rangers, if they are specced for shutdown/denial.

God, I agree totally. I had such a tough time finding a good group last night in Team Arena (I am practicing PvP before moving on to the Tombs). I only could play for an hour and I could not find a group that wanted to talk about what we were going to do before starting. No one wanted to talk about taking skills that worked together or possible strategies. The night before I found a great group of people (very late at night) and we strung together several series of wins including due to the very few people playing a couple of very fun tightly fought battles against the same team. They won one and we won one, both by the tightest margins. By far the most fun I have had in guild wars PvP.
The funniest match I had last night was when the two warriors and the monk I was with all took off after the monk on the other team who simply ran with them chasing him. This left the other three after me (which was obviously their plan). It worked great as the running monk effectively shut down three players allowing the other three to work on killing me.
I wish the team matching had more of a online persoanl ad feel to it somehow. That way I could find other players that want to actually try and function as a team.
