I rented Super Street Fighter 4 lastnight, to see if it was worth dropping $36 on. At first I didn't like it cause it felt so slow compared to the games I've been playing lately. Then It got better. Then it annoyed me.

I really miss those early 90s Arcades.

I've only played Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 4. I was happy to see all the characters from 2 return.

However, I can't wait for another Mortal Kombat...I'm partial to that series.

I do miss the arcades so much, especially now that there aren't any left in my town.

I don't, however, miss the kids on the DDR machine clogging up the place, or the roving gangs of people addicted to fighting games trying to bump me off when I just want to kill the final boss.

The arcade games I played in the 70's were so spartan compared with today's games, but oh how I thought they were so cool and only a quarter to play! Those were fun times.

You'd like SS4's arcade mode then. It has an option to mimic that by allowing you to be paired against people looking for an online game, while you play through arcade mode. It was hilarious. I'd fight the CPU for about 5 to 15 seconds, and them bam, "A New Challenger Appears!"

Unfortunately, after a while every match was against Sagat, Akuma, or Guile. So like with BB (Jin, Jin, Jin, Ragna, Jin.), it gets old quick. That's just the reality of online fighting games, I guess.

Maybe a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T
http://www.richardandkarencarpenter.com/68%20Charger-05%20W.jpg

or a 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda
http://www.stockmopar.com/_images/cuda/1970-blue-plymouth-aar-cuda-pictures/1970-blue-plymouth-aar-cuda-pictures-5.jpg

I kidded my wife that I was going to get a Direct Connection decal for the back window of the Sebring. My old Dodge muscle car had a 360 cid with 340 valves, 3/4 race cam, B&M transpack kit, original Chrysler 6 pack (3 Hollies on a high-rise aluminum manifold), custom exhaust with the Chrysler "H" bar to headers, 5:13 gear, H50 14 Mickey Thompson tires, and of course, a Direct Connection decal in the back window. Sometimes I'd put tranction bars on, but the true Mopar way is to use a rubber snubber on the gear hump, so when I was embarrased enough, I'd take them off. When I'd pop the hood, guys thought it was anything from a 340 High-Performace up to a 383 Magnum. Sounded really good with a very deep growl. When I'd do brake stands, the back end would swing to the left or right. I could pop the front wheels off the ground, but even with very firm shocks, it would still flatten some header pipes and that got to be expensive replacing the headers. Man, I wish I had that car...

I can hardly play any kind of fighting game these days without getting Nintendo thumbs. - Metal Gear Solid 4 is a neat game/movie. More movie, I suppose, but I do enjoy some of the silly things you're allowed to do during the stealthy bits. Any game where a "Playboy" is considered an offensive weapon has a lot going for it.

I killed a woman this morning.

Then she was really nice about it, and now I feel a bit guilty. She did backstab me with an axe a few times though, but then I ran off a ledge, circled back, and snuck up on her while the tried to kill the red eyed knight. It turns out that ramming a claymore through someone's back isn't as gratifying when you learn that they're still a bit green.

The system does make sure that you only fight folks around your level, but uh. . not all levels are created equal? I suppose the payback to being evil is fighting even tougher bosses while having even another penalty to your total health, so even left handed zombies can insta-kill you. :cloud9:

I managed to obtain the "Friends" Ring in DS by farming invading black phantoms. This strikes me as funny cause it actually seemed more 'evil' than invading players myself. -- Basically, you go to a certain level's spawn point, and simply. . .wait. When another player invades, his back will be to you which allows for an easy 1000pt+ backstab.

Even so, the usual cat and mouse element to the pvp makes me open to the idea of world pvp in mmorpgs again. Too bad it's usually so easy to exploit in some manner or another.

You so backwards.

Bah! I can add to the list of goofy things Europeans and Commonwealth nations use that is so wrong:
Liters instead of pints, quarts, and gallons
Meters instead of inches, foot, yard, and mile
Centigrade instead of Fahrenheit.

If we could spread Levi's around the world, when will the US get the world to using our measurements? :fortuneteller:  :innocent:

Auntie I

A liter is a liter is a liter...how many pints in a quart? Quarts in a gallon? Imperial gallon / US gallon?

Distance is all base 10, no need to figure how many inches in a foot or yard or mile...I need a conversion calculator to figure it all out.

And Celcius make so much more sense than Fahrenheit. If it's below zero, everything is frozen, if it's above, it's not...so simple.

Jeans make sense, so does metric...hence the use of both.

Shallowrain
25-07-2010, 19:00
I honestly know metric better than I know the American systems due to the fact that I use them more often in classes. I had no idea how many ounces were in a quart when a kid asked me.

Domitilde
26-07-2010, 01:14
Oh, you two are something. I know how many ounces to a gallon, I just have to look it up first. What I don't like was the move to metric in the US was a flop and yet many car parts might require metric tools. :banghead:

I remember our trip to Victoria, B.C., such a beautiful town (been there twice) and the first time we went by a gas station and thought, "Wow, gas is only a dollar something a gallon here!"

Your idea to adopt the Levi as a universal unit of measurement is intriguing.
This way I would be two levis tall and weigh sixteen levis. But I think that working out how many levis to the levi my car manages would be somewhat problematic.

Also it's Litre and Metre.

28-07-2010, 00:33

Yes, the reports of rioting were amazing. Now me being a true NY Rangers fan, I grew up during the time that the Rangers and Bruins were a really big rivalry and I hated Boston. During those good old days, TV cameras couldn't show the crowds close to the nose-bleed areas in MSG because of too many signs with foul language.

I think we all know Steve Nash was behind it.

Today's Silly was brought by Germany: Some newspaper over there said Dirk defeated "ghetto basketball." (http://deadspin.com/5811983/german-newspaper-credits-dirk-first-white-mvp-since-larry-bird-with-defeating-ghetto-basketball)

Reading the article, apparently the writer meant exactly that. Wowza. Gold chains, really? Also: "he (Dirk) is the first white MVP since Larry Bird!"

See, this is why Nash started those riots. Even the Germans are trolling him.

German dude, Dirk wasn't MVP. That was Rose. Dirk was finals MVP. And, you know, there was a two-time "white" MVP a few years ago (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Nash). Okay, maybe he was born in Africa, but c'mon. He's whiter than Bird ever was.

They'll reach an agreement like the NFL.

I dunno about that. The NFL were a lot closer to agreeing on a deal the whole way through their process than the NBA seems to be. All the NFL insiders agreed that a deal would get done, it was just a matter of when and how many legal hoops everyone would have to jump through. The NBA and the NBA Players Association seem (to me at least) further apart than there NFL counterparts ever were.

Mraezk
23-09-2011, 21:12
In some cases they can't. Lakers are a probably the worst example. I've had fans tell me it cost more than $100 a seat for any big season game, and Playoff time is simply insane. The only people who can afford courtside tickets are the bandwagon movie star / VIP types. It is like that for most big market teams.

This is why small market teams have the best crowds in the playoffs. Memphis and OKC were simply stacked with real fans (seas of blue!), and the commentators has to scream into the mics to be heard.

I was telling Teina earlier about that. I remember it mostly around mid 90s, the weirdo country music types started hyping them, and then all the local yokels got into it. Suddenly kids in school started bandwagoning and so on. But looks like it came from NFL films in the late 70s.

Yesterday, I was to take one of our cars to a garage to have the right front wheel checked. I was also going to two other places and none were near the others. The garage mechanic was unable to help, so I drove to the only Chrysler dealer left in the city, and was told probably the ball joint or tie rod. Neither is cheap, but say not to drive the car since it was so bad that the tie rod could come off while driving. I tell them to do the nearest maintenance check, too. They offer me a shuttle ride home and will call with the estimate.

Our Ford F250 SuperDuty (ext cab, full box, V10, 4x4) sits around for weeks at a time since it slurps gas like I slurp down Dr Pepper. Naturally, as I am walking towards it, the lock isn't responding to the fob. At first I figure the fob is dead, but then wonder if the battery is dead. Open the door and no roof light. Try starting and it does nothing. So I spend around 30 minutes with a charger connected. Get it started and it's almost out of gas. Put in only 20 gallons which is about 3/4 a tank for $70 USD. Go about my other business and late in the afternoon, I get the bad news that it could cost up to $3,000 for everything. ARGH!!

At least I was lucky unlike a fellow TRUEbie in that I pre-ordered GW2 Deluxe before this happened. :azn:

Now Ultra HD is out with 4k resolution and greater (and for only around $10,000 USD to start) and yet it wasn't long ago my wife and I were talking about how great Blu-ray is and how we didn't see how it could be improved.
