It is bad. That is why I sometimes get all quiet and start to cry for no apparent reason, it happens when I smelled it frying in the alliance kitchen and my taste buds are trying to kill me in revenge!
Funny enough.. Bacon is the only think I miss! Everything else I've either found a substitute for (yummy sausages, found some excellent spicy beef ones), and the rest, ham, steak and kidney pie... eww! :yikes:

Can you get turkey rashers in Sweden? I know that sounds like a silly question, but they don't seem to be sold in some places. They taste like bacon but they're made of turkey! They're the wrong texture, but they make quite a good sandwich.

Huh, so you like it? I should try it; I've been meaning to- but nearly everyone I know said they hadn't actually tried it before.
Veggie-bacon is a no-no.

Yeah, turkey bacon is fine. I have to admit that it's the only bacon in our house now. It's most certainly not the same thing, most notably the texture, since there's not a whole lot of fat in turkeys.
For example, some people like their bacon thick and fatty. If that's your style of bacon stick with the real stuff.
Turkey bacon, when cooked in the microwave, comes out nice and crispy, which is the way I like my bacon.
And it tastes like bacon, not turkey.
And it's healthier.

Everything tastes like chicken.
My inlaws are vegans, and whenever I've tried their substitute meats, I just haven't been impressed. We can all laugh about it though - this past weekend, my father-in-law was scoping out places for me to get a good burger (or as he was calling it, real food).

I've been a vegetarian for a long time, and I love soy products. I will admit that the fake bacon it pretty bad. Everything else tastes good to me though. I haven't had any real meat for 17 years, so I kinda forgot what the stuff that's being imitated is supposed to taste like.

Wintersday in July -- 15 July 2008
This weekend, Wintersday Priests will open access to the Snowball Arena from Lions Arch, Droknars Forge, Ascalon City, Kamadan and the Great Temple of Balthazar. For those who choose to stay out adventuring instead, there will also be special Wintersday themed item drops from monsters across the land. Wintersday in July will begin at Noon Pacific (-7 GMT) this Friday and last until 11:59 PM Pacific on Sunday, July 20.
Just in case anyone has missed this... Frosty Tonics (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Frosty_Tonic) are dropping (albeit rarely) everywhere.

And hopping over to the states is more trouble than the amount saved in money...
First, an airport. Which would be Hamburg or Schiphol (those are the closest to me), both about 3-4 hours drive (if you're very lucky). Park your car and get to the airport itself (1 hour) Then, you must be about 2 hours early (at the least), wait in line for another hour. Let's assume you pick the closest city, which would be New York. Get past immigration in the states (another 4 hours), and then find a shop where they sell what you want to buy. And then back home... Hopefully, customs won't pick you from the line as you will have to pay those taxes anyway in that case...

So I guess we're opposites there.
The guy I work with wore the same black shirt and green pants every day for a year. Well, he had three shirts he rotated. He bought a white shirt last week, and I was flabbergasted.

Wow.. Titanic. I haven't seen that movie in almost 10 years.
Story time!
It was my 18th birthday - at that time, there were two girls who I had taken a special interest in. 'Girl A' and myself skipped school that day, and were going to hang out at my house for the night.
After a little while, the door bell rings, and (surprise!) 'Girl B' shows up with a birthday present which was Titanic. 'Girl B' had no idea that I had taken the day off school with 'Girl A'. After an awkward greeting (as the two girls most certainly did not like each other), all three of us sat on the couch and watched the movie which seemed to last an eternity (or was that just because the movie was ridiculously long?).
It was the single most uncomfortable time of my dating era.

You didn't enjoy Dark Knight? WTF?Well, let's see...
I thought it was the best superhero film ever made.
I thought Heath Ledger did a fine job as the Joker (not sure it's worth best actor, but he could get a 'life achievement' best actor).
I liked the minimal/well done use of CGI.
After the first hour though, I just felt dragged along. I blame foreshadowing. I hated Batman's voice. I hated the ending. In general, I dislike superheros (my brother shoved them down my throat when I was a kid- so I delved into Pokemon and shows where the hero died and didn't come back).
However, I just meant it FELT longer to me than Titanic- wasn't saying Titanic doesn't feel long.
Anyway, I blame myself for this topic, and take all blame for it.

Well I'm glad that's settled.
Back to off topic. My brother-in-law's last night in town is tonight. He has been vacationing here for about six weeks, house hopping between his parents' house and our house. While I will be sad to see him go (he's easy going, and good company), I will be glad to have my computer room back.
I do believe our next house will have separate rooms for the guest bed and the computer.

I was just browsing the forums, and came across this thread (http://guildwars.incgamers.com/showthread.php?t=403001) that snowkissed made about Stella Artois. As much as I wanted to resurrect it, I decided to talk about it here instead.
I know not everyone is a beer drinker, but I do enjoy a nice beer. I saw in that thread that Juiced had suggested Hoegaarden White. My friend... you are a wise man. Hoegaarden is the absolute best beer I've ever had. I even had it on tap one time while in New Jersey - it was epic.
Depending on how my wallet looks, my beer preference looks like this:
Broke: Yuengling / Bavaria
Balanced: Blue Moon / St. Pauli Girl
Bling Bling: Hoegaarden

There's this British pub here in the City, there are a couple of them as I believe it's a franchise. Anyway, they've got this drink called... okay I can't remember, but it's Strongbow and Guinness. The Guinness just floats on top of the Strongbow. It's actually really, really go. I think it's called a "Crown Float"

And most likely that is exactly what it was.
Hard Cider (polite way of saying there's alcohol in it) doesn't taste quite the same.
I agree though; a nice dry English cider is good! I got addicted to the stuff the time I visited England.

How'd the interview go? I hope you have good news for us!
Sorry for the late response!
The interview went alright - I knew going in that they were looking for someone full time, but hey, they still called me even though they knew I wanted part time.
I talked with one guy first, and then the office manager came in, but I didn't get to speak with the owner, which is who the school's IT head wanted me to talk to.
Even though it was a pretty good interview (they weren't super professional) I honestly don't expect to hear back from them. At the end of the interview, the first guy I spoke with said he would have to talk to the owner about me, but he was pretty sure they didn't need a part time person.
Regardless, it was still a good experience. I hope that I'll continue to be noticed at school based on my performance, and that more opportunities will come up in the future.

If you're working at the store couldn't you just read a book there during the downtime anyway? Well, I guess it depends on where you live and how big the bookstore is.. Chapters in Halifax, NS is usually rather busy, but the bookstore in Yarmouth is quite quiet.

Hey shawn! Everyone is welcome in here. Come in, relax and have some bacon.
I've had a bacon deficiency lately. I went to make some bbq'ed hamburgers for lunch today. I had propane, hamburger, bbq sauce, cheese, buns.. But alas, no bacon. Sad Shawn was sad.

No - seriously. At least it'd be over in a few minutes.
Off and on since around 5pm - 1am I've been tagging my music collection. God, that makes my life sound unbelievably pathetic. I was getting sick of no album art, and having misspelled album names and such, so I ran my files through an automated thing first.. it cleared up most of the text issues but it only picked up around a third of the artwork. Joy. (And I'm having trouble believing anyone actually will care about this, but I've typed this much so I'll continue.) Anyway, at least now it's all organized and spiffy. Screenshot! To be honest most of the time wasn't spend tracking them down, as I could get the majority from wikipedia. What took so long is the writing of the art to each id3 tag, it was like playing a game of Progress Quest (http://progressquest.com/). I also have Joel Plaskett cds kicking around somewhere, he's from Halifax and you may have heard some of his songs on the radio (or tv!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6McNDpS0Sw).
Just moved to Windsor for Moncton.
Joel Plaskett I have heard and I like his stuff. The others, not so much...
Although to be perfectly honest, I rarely listen to music and when I do, I usually either dust off some of my old stuff(ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, Queen) or listen to Classical music of CBC radio.
Boo, I can't see the screenie, and I want to know what the bands are!

Veddy weird! It loaded for me at 4 this morning, but now it can't find the site. Maybe the imageshack server is down?
So here I am, at work. /bored
Seriously, I work 16 hours a week, and my entire task list for most weeks consists of about 2 hours worth of work. My boss is on sabbatical until December, and promises to find me more to do when he returns. But in the meantime...yeah, ugh.
I'm usually very good at finding something that needs to be done, but I'm a secretary at a small church, and there's only so much you can do in an empty building before you run out.
/ponder Can't you put GW on a flash drive or something and play it wherever? ;-)

I wouldn't see why not, if you've got a 4GB flash drive; or an external USB hard drive.
Filesystem of the flash card might be a problem tho...
CBC radio. That's the only radio I'll listen to around here, with occasional breaks to listen to Q104 if I'm around Halifax.

Yay for Within Temptation and Johnathan Coulton!
You may have already heard these suggestions before, but if you like Within Temptation, you may like After Forever (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjm4BrNAf6s) and Nightwish (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdZn7k5rZLQ). I do, anyway. >_>

I saw Nightwish live in May. It was fabulous. I have all of their albums. I quite enjoy After Forever as well, but don't actually have any of their stuff.
My tastes lately have been quite a bit... heavier.
All That Remains tops my "most listened to" whereas Children of Bodom and Lamb of God are also there, with a bit of Protest the Hero smattered in.

I'm actually very surprised that Within Temptation (being a Dutch band) is actually known in the US.. I quite like them, but I'm no fan of the genre.

:O
Hot damn! I'd not heard All That Remains before, so I just checked out This Calling on youtube. They strongly remind me of Killswitch Engage - especially their song Rose of Sharyn. (I consider that a good thing.)
My favorite band at the moment is Opeth, although I wouldn't consider them as heavy overall, they're perhaps a bit darker? I really like how they'll combine the 'death growl' vocals with amazing melodies/harmonies in the same song, as in their song "Bleak." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UpH3qhP_UE)
But then, they do have some rather heavy songs as well, such as Heir Apparent.. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1Ty-fwB4sw) >:D

I've noticed most (if not all) people I know who like Within Temptation basically liked Evanescence (who are styled very similarly), and then looked for other bands similar, and found Within Temptation. That being said, I only know of maybe a dozen other people who knew of them before I mentioned them.

Within Temptation was recommended to me by a Finnish gamer when I used to play Neverwinter Nights on community servers ages and ages ago.
I'm embarrassed to say I never got past the tutorial to NWN.. To this day I still don't know exactly what I did. I got it from my friend, put it on and went about 5 mins into the tutorial, then somehow a demon imp thingie spawned and hit me until I (slowly) died.. I hadn't figured out how to attack yet apparently. After a few choice words about my friends idea of a good game I went back to Team Fortress Classic and didn't touch it again. >_>
Speaking of games, I'm in gw atm, and one of the downsides to being in a pvp guild is I can't con any of them into coming along to the forgemaster with me, as I'd like to get my new monk fow with this month's zkey profits. They're talking about barbie dolls, gi joes, and the new skill updates. lol.

I like everything but Country.
I like everything but Country.
I'll fix that for you
I like everything but Hip Hop.
You know, I've never been able to specify a everything except/especially music genre? My music tastes are all over the map - some things just appeal to my ear, some don't. I love this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhw2ZyWQ7sM) and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgBgnoEY4iM) and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc9uVO5FWb8) equally.
In other news, yesterday at work I got the weekend bulletin finished and ready to print. It was perfect, after wrestling with fonts and sizes for a while, everything EXACTLY fit. One more line anywhere would have really messed me up.
Today I arrived to find a note requesting that I add two lines to the bulletin. Sigh.

I like music overall, there's no real genre that I hate (Hardcore being an exception) but I must say my preferences are rock'ish. The bands I really enjoy listening to at the moment are U2, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bon Jovi.
[...] and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc9uVO5FWb8) equally.Wow, Nickle Creek. Now there's a band I wasn't expecting to see. I grew up with that kinda music, country/bluegrassish stuff. When I was younger my parents asked me what kind of instrument I'd like to play, and I said the bass. So they actually got me one. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_bass) Then a few years later I picked up dad's beat up old guitar and taught myself how to play, so I wound up picking up a decent acoustic guitar (http://www.mguitar.com/guitars/choosing/guitars.php?p=m&m=DX1) it was a fair bit cheaper than that where I got it though o_O..
So now all I've got to do is stop being so shy that I won't sing in front of people. (Yet ironically. posting vids of me singing online I don't have problems with.)
The only band that matters is The Shaggs.

>_> I should have saw that coming.
Well, since I upgraded to Vista (regret it. want xp back.), I can't record vids/songs with my webcam anymore, it only takes digital inputs. So you'll have to do with an older vid of a song by an aforementioned local singer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Plaskett) you probably don't know. :p
Me doing Joel Plaskett's 'True Patriot Love' (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/a_perfectschism/photographs/me/?action=view¤t=truepatriotlove.flv) ...Hm, that was only a few months ago, and already I find it weird seeing myself without glasses on..
So just ignore those painfully off-key high notes towards the first. (I was nervous.) The rest is mostly okay.
Also, I recorded that at home.. check out that shelf behind me, it has toys on it (such as that Mighty Max (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mighty_Max_(toyline)) skull thing) from when I was 8 years old or so which no one's bothered to toss, myself included. lol. Seeing as I'm 23, I should get around to that sometime when I'm home next.

For crying out loud, people! This was a cry for help if ever I've seen one! Did anyone come to the rescue of this poor lonely troubador?
Not familiar with Mr Plaskett's work, but the wiki link mentions Oz a coupla times. I've heard a number of Canadian musos (and Australian music journalists) remark that there's some magic that connects our countries, as expessed throught he medium of music.
edit: thinking about Canadians touring Oz made me think about Neko Case (who I missed http://forum.planet-f1.com/images/smiley_icons/icon_mad.gif) which made think about The New Pornographers, whose The Laws Have changed I now have on loop via You Tube. Question I have: is that Nicki Clyne in the video? lo! (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jq9-5FjQb8g&feature=related)

For crying out loud, people! This was a cry for help if ever I've seen one! Did anyone come to the rescue of this poor lonely troubador? As it turns out someone else logged on and wanted to get fow for their warrior, so we managed to talk some other people into going and forged it in a half hour, or something ridiculously fast like that.
Ever considered starting a band?Very strongly considered it, actually.. Although covering songs is one thing, making them is another. One of the main problems is finding other like-minded people around here who can play, and they can't just be 'interested' they've got to be interested in the same kinda stuff as well, or it probably won't last very long. ("I want to play bagpipes!" - "But I want to rap!" - "...For **** sakes..")
That said, I just hopped on to check the forums before I leave, I'm heading to town in about 15 minutes or so to play bass (yes, the upright kind) for most of the weekend, and won't be back till Sunday. Although this is just for the fun of music, not any band sort of thing. (If I did make one it would have to have electric instruments, for starters.. >_>)
So yeah, later. Remember kids, don't count your ectos before they... well, whatever it is ectos do.
Drip? Ectos drip, right? Maybe they squish. I'm not sure about the consistency.
No, they terrorize (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH6n-1anfxo).
I'm reminded of that every time I consider getting fow. I imagine the crafting process to be similar.

I love the fug girls. . .meanwhile, if anyone cares:
New York Fashion Week was so-so. Not bad actually, but not great. The highlights would be the Rodarte show, Michael Kors, and Marc Jacobs.
Race and eating disorders were the main topics of discussion. People are upset about the lack of 'ethnic' models (Prada is famous for not showing a non-white on the runway for like, 9 years at a time, though they don't show till Milan). Eating disorders are just talked about enough to get critics to shut up.
In other news, I'm going flipping crazy trying to pack, clean, write two essays, and plan an open house. While finishing the accursed bathroom.

Completely failed to mow grass. Experiments in setting up a feline driven lawn mower resulted in only disappointment and an unamused cat.
Why do I get the feeling that would prove disastrous if that was even remotely "successful"?
POINTY! Hi! Long time no see.
I agree on the disastrous part. My poor kitty (http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/a_perfectschism/photographs/pics%20around%20home/kitty7.jpg) has feline diabetes, and I'm pretty sure there's no way he'd be able to push that lawnmower around without killing himself, especially as the lawn is fairly uneven (http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/a_perfectschism/photographs/pics%20around%20home/july%2018/yard-rightside-.jpg). That means the lawnmower is always Shawnpowered.
I usually am the one that has to give the cat his insulin shots too, which is just lovely seeing as needles and I don't get along well. Not really needlephobia, but they make me rather queasy.. Eh, but between me being lightheaded for a bit or the cat possibly dying, it's a rather easy choice.
We had to give our old cat fluids through an IV last year, cause she had kidney failure. I was so incredibly nervous when I was trying to get the needle in. Hopefully, the fluids made her a little more comfortable before the inevitable.
The cat was kind of evil, though, when she was healthy.
Oh, that one has never been evil, aside from that one time he started pissing while he was on my lap, but it was shortly after he'd been fixed and I don't think he could help it. We had another cat (http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/a_perfectschism/photographs/100_0030.jpg) that we wound up taking in about a year or so after we got the black one (and yes, the black one's name is Salem, like 98% of black cats). This new one, Kallie, kept coming around and playing with Salem, and running in the house with Salem when we opened the door for him. She was terribly thin and ate a ton at first, someone must have stopped taking care of her.
Anyway, she was a bit worse, not intentionally though. She'd jump up in bed right next to my face while I was sleeping and scare the absolute hell out of me. But she got hit by a vehicle (we think) sometime while I was at my place. Mom had been talking to me and mentioned they hadn't seen her in a few days, and while later Dad walked down the road a bit and found her lying dead in a ditch.

*shrugs* Dogs can get sick too. Someone I know has a dog who's got something wrong with its butt. He told me a story involving the dog and a rubber glove which I never wish to hear again, and made me quite glad my cat only has diabetes.
Yeah, but who likes dogs. But that does remind me of this story of a guy who went to the ER and couldn't. . . uh . . . yeah, that's probably not one for sharing.
