Logic behind rare weapon types...

What is the logic behind the distribution of rare weapon types, as is?

Bows get Mursaat Horn Bows, Shadow Bows, Eternal Bows, and Storm Bows.
Axes get Chaos Axes, Tribal Axes, Serpent Axes, Dwarven Axes and Sickles.
Swords get Fellblades, Fiery Dragon Swords, Crystalline Swords, and Brute Swords.
Hammers get Righteous Mauls and Mursaat Hammers.

Now, excuse me if a model is not 'rare'. Im merely reporting based off of what I observe ingame.

Each of the bow types looks cool, and can drop in high level areas, so your chance of getting one with a sexy mod is pretty decent.

Fellblades drop semi regularly in high end areas [see below picture], as do Fiery Dragon Swords. I have never seen a max dmg Brute Sword actually drop, however. And I have just all out NEVER SEEN a Crystalline Sword. Sure, I say "I'm wearing a Zealous Crystalline Sword of Fortitude and an Eternal Shield." while using my quest reward 'long sword', but have never seen a Crystalline Sword.

Hammers get the short end, here. While both of the rare models are obtainable late in the game, they are both ugly. However, compared to other hammers, this seems like a small price to pay.

Axes are the most baffling to me. Chaos Axes and Dwarven Axes are the only rare models that can spawn with max dmg [again, excuse me if I am wrong]. Serpent Axes, Sephix Axes, Tribal Axes, and Sickles, the latter two being by far the most awesome looking axes, do not drop with max damage.

Im not saying your axe doesnt look cool, I rather like my White Scythe, but I would trade it in for a Tribal Axe or Sickle with identical stats in a heartbeat. Hell, Id customize it afterwards.

What is the logic behind having such rare, sweet looking, items with stats that suck? And items that are so totally beyond any but the most hardcore player [crystalline swords] that many people probably play the game regularly and have no idea what one is... what purpose do they serve? Merely giving the 'omg I am so leet!' people something to strive for?

Rare weapon graphics models allow such items to become virtual "collectables" without causing any game-play balance issues. If the common longsword were used as the rare graphic model, it would probably receive similar notoriety as crystallines and sickles. Low rarity tends to enhance a weapon model's reputation, even if the model didn't look any better than its more common cousins.

By tossing weapon frequecy distribution out the window, the equipment "fassion" market would come crashing down.

Tribal Axes and Sickle Axes can both drop max damage.. I've seen a screen shot. For the sickle, at least. And yeah, if they all looked the same, then the whole economy of the game would be turded on.

Sephix axes can drop max. And I've owned max Serpents and Brutes before. Max crystallines DO exist.. I've even seen a screenshot of a perfect 15>50, 8 req crystalline for sale. The last time I checked, it was going for 10+ mil. lol.

(250 ectos = 2.5 mil btw, for those who scoff at how one's supposed to pay for it)

You forgot Twin Hammers. Also hammer has two or three skins for War Hammers. One is a spiked looking hammer that is actually quite rare to get.

at least you call these rares...i was trading this guy a purple twin hammer of osemthing soemthinga for liek 5k...i was the one givin him the hammer...i mean cmon it's a max dmg twin hammer with a 14% >50% hp. i show him and he's like...no i only want gold. gold is the best. good thing i laughed instead of whspering to him the n word.

Actually the hammer I use is a Giant Slayer (Ram's Head skin). Not the most popular but it simply looks bad *** with 15k Glads imo. Mine's max, req 8, 10% Furious, +30hp. Cost me like 45k to put together.

As far as axes go, the only rare skin I actually like is the Sickle, and now with the new Green Victo's Battle Axe, it's perfectly attainable. Besides that I'm very happy with my perfect Furious Spiked Axe of Fortitude.

And finally my sword... a perfect Furious Spatha of Fortitude. As with the hammer, not the most popular skin, but it's the one I actually like. (Giant can opener ftw!) Well, again, that new Green Victo's Blade with the Shadowblade skin looks mighty nice. Gonna get that too since it's now easily attainable...

I once had a max crystalline, clean, req 12, sold it for 5k. No idea if it was a good idea though, I'm really not into the trading game, and I was very new at the time.

I was lucky enough to get a max dmg, req 13 rare crystalline chest farming outside port sledge, and I've held onto it ever since. I swear I almost had a heart attack when it came out of that chest. :cloud9:

You honestly got one out of a non FoW/UW/HoH chest? I didn't even think such was possible. Darn, now the idea of Chest/Forge running is even more appealing. :shocked:

Hammers aren't valued very high, no matter the skin. I found a very good hammer with + 30 hp mod and the general opinion was 5k.

I don't think they did it on purpose... At least not for all of them. I think they assigned certain weapon models to drop in certain areas. Then they assigned damage "levels" to those areas based on where they fall in the timeline of the game. People just happen to like certain models better than other models. Combine that with how hard it is to find a model from the early part of the game with good stats on it... I think this is all mostly accidental.

You know, some days this game make me not even want to play it.

I have close to 500 hours into it, 4 Chars, etc etc.

I farm quite often - my favorite activity. I never farm the same area twice in a row. I do these farming "loops". Then run, help with a mission etc. While I get gold drops occasionally, Ive NEVER gotten a perfect Warrior weapon. My closest drop was a Great Axe +15 in stance (same skin as +15 stance collector axe) and Icy Dragon Swords which arent being counted here.

Back on topic, Ive had plenty of rare skinned weapons drop- Chaos Axes, Spiked Hammers,Fellblades, Sickles, Sephis Axes, Storm Bows, Eternal Bows, etc etc. Some have been max dmg but they rarely have inherent damage mods and have never been perfect.

This game should have code built in that rewards the players who put time into playing it. Im sorry, but black dye dropping my first day playing and never again is quite stupid. As a noob, I had no clue of its value and sold it for nothing. Yet the profit "online gold" farmers can still farm away and come up with some nice stuff. It amazes me..........

Stuff drops there quite frequently that's max and either gold or purple (I got 4 Firey Dragon swords last run, all max, 1 gold, 1 purp and 2 blue). As well as a gold eternal sheild, and several max storm bows.

Lotsa stuff down there once you are used to it.

Agreed. I've only done 2 runs down there and made about 250k+ from them between Greens and Golds from chests. The place is really a challenge and extremely time consuming so good build, good group, and lots of patience is needed.
