Ok from the way I think of it,

Any mesmers must have a decent build and a purpose that they must serve in pvp or else they will be useless.

First, mesmers armor is weak by itself, and doesn't have any good healing at all, while monk and ele have very similar armor, mesmer has the worst healing of all. Ether Feast.

Whether its Energy Denial, Health degen, or hexxer, they must have that in mind or else they will get a mediocre mesmer that couldn't be at its full potential.

btw, i know this is all old news, I'm just typing it so I can see what i understand and comprehend of the 'mesmer.' I'm new with the mesmer so I'm still learning all the skills, so please add anything else Critical information about the mesmer.

No builds please but some combos would be nice as an extra

Since mesmers have shoddy healing, there's no point in wasting any slots on healing. This is guild wars anyways.. you will be in teams, and your teammates should be backing you up.

Another mesmer-build would be interruption. With Migraine / or Arcane Conundrum, any grandma can be an interrupter too. :)

Don't forget to keep moving and running while in a fight. Try take advantage of any walls that you can hide behind to avoid ranger arrows or fireballs. While we're not self healers, don't just rely on your monk to keep you alive. Make sure you have some defense, Signet of Midnight+Epidemic, or Distortion+Spirit of Failure, just something so you're not helpless.

Mesmer skills are not usually suited to be cast on a particular target until the target dies. Our skills are usually hex intensive so you dont cast all your hexes like backfire+diversion+.... all on one target, you tend to spread the love and the way you spread them depends on the situation too so it takes more thinking to play a mesmer.

Cast Chaos Storm when your warriors gather up a group of monsters, cast empathy on warrior/ranger-type monsters (also on casters if they use wand attack frequent enough), cast your interrupt when a monster is about to cast a devastating spell, cast backfire/diversion against a caster, etc.

Notice that we are not your average W/Mo or Ele that only use the same set of skills against practically any monster. We tend to cast-and-forget, then move on to the next monster since the damage is done. This may not give as much satisfaction to some players since we dont usually cast a mesmer spell and watch the monster's life drops by a significant amount almost instantly.

At higher level you would have access to better necro and mesmer spells and elites. My Me/N is enjoying Illusion Weaponry right now since it gives alot of damage without much energy required. At lower levels you should have access to Chaos Storm, Empathy, Conjure Phantasm, Diversion, Shadow Strike, Vamp Gaze, Well of blood, and many useful PvE skills.
