View Full Version : So, what Assassin will you create?

This has to come sooner or later
Hello fellow Assassins!
We all ask ourselves what an Assassin we will make and combine the different classes abilities.
So I put up this poll to see the communities favorite.
I, e.g., will chose Ranger as secondary profession. First, because I think traps and pets will be useful, second, beacuse my main character is a ranger and I like them.
An As/Necro would be cool too, it would be a kind-of "evil" character.
Tell us you choice!

I'm with you...good idea! :happy34:
as/ri
i am a pvp player, want to unlock both new classes with one char, don't got the lust to play 2 chars throegh pve.
I figure there will be a lot of A/Ri and Ri/A out there, unlocking skills. I did the whole separate class thing for Chapter 1 and will probably opt out this time and play two characters, one A/Me and one E/Ri. This is of course all speculation at the moment... ;)

It's too soon to tell what combination will work best for me.
I NEED more information!

I foresee that there will be ALOT of as/ri in the early chapter2 >_< since ritualist is kind of a replacement for monk AND, of course, that both are new.
[meeh, too late post ^_^]
Well, personally i think I'm going to start an Assassin/Elementalist or Necromancer.

Assassin/Ranger for me, for a couple of reasons:
1. ANET mentioned new pets, and I want a cool new pet!
2. Traps and BM will likely work well for an assassin
3. The ranger path quest is a total pain and I never want to have to do that quest ever again for any of my chars :uhhuh:
A couple of concerns I did have:
1. Some of the best evasion stances are in the expertise line, which means that the assassin isn't really going to be able to use them effectively. However, I already have a primary ranger, and I want a primary character in each profession, so I'll just have to suck it up and take the assassin primary instead of a ranger/assassin....

Ill probably run it twice, Asn/Mo firstly, then Rgr/Asn secondly...don't know why, just seems cool. Expertise ftw too.

I'm going for Assassin/Monk, actually...Despise the common prejudice against War/Monks, I would like to have a character that can handle many situations on her own, not to mention protect those frail NPCs in the "keep X alive" missions and quests.
(Few things are worse than just watching as Greenwind slowly degens to death, when you are two enemies away from beating Defend North Kryta.)

Most likely I'll kick things off with a As/N and make liberal use of the teleport spells to both attack and flee.
Looks like there's gonna be a whole bunch of A/Ri's running around.

A/Me
Fear the mind games and teleportation!
"Now you see me, now you don't. Wait a minute, where'd I go?... Here I am! You might THINK that's me, but you're wrong; that's not me!"
It may not be the exact way the class works, but I like mesmer, and I like the idea of being a bit of a spellsword with mind games in the arsenal.

A/Ra- will give me a chance to explore some areas of the ranger skillset (mostly Wilderness Survival) that I don't get to use on my main normally.
Assassin/Mesmer all the way for me. (Also Mesmer/Assassin in PvP no doubt)
Things To Try:
Blackout Build- Blackout has always hurt me more than the enemy in most cases, but assassins seem to be capable of doing a junkload of damage without casting any spells.
Warrior Killer- Illusionary blade would probably cause lower DPS than normal on a n Assassin against a non-warrior character, but I'd like to see how well the chunky monkeys face against an opponent with TWO of them.
I also want to try an Assassin/Necromancer with the skills I've unlocked already to see how well I can combine the two teleportation sets.
I think im going to be assasin/ranger.
Wildness Survival is going to be ver usefull (critical-poisoner!):happy34:
Probably A/Mo... in a first time ;)

Assassin/Ranger or Ranger/Assassin sounds like a good combo. As previously posted, that Wilderness Survival will be nice.

A/N for the teleport/touch skill combo. I just hope the A/Ri won't become the new W/Mo...

A/W.
For fun, I want to see if it's possible to make a "Swordmaster" type character, more or less an agility and finesse based fighter. I even already have a name for him. ;)
Much will depend on what Attributes and Skills the Assassin profession gets, but I'm pretty hopeful.

Apply poison and traps. Just cos its a fun idea :happy14:

Either a A/N with Blood and Curse's with what ever Assissian skills or a A/M be like playing my old Warrior but with more energy hopely^^
One of those two for the test weekend...
When I get it....depending on slots...
A/N (If I like it)
A/M (Again if I like it)
A/R (could be fun)

well i'm new here to the post here on .net and i will be making like some of you an a/r, but what will also be very interesting is that besides the assassin and ritualist prof...there will be others not just those 2 so it will be very interesting to see the different classes clashing with the other profession i am for one to go with the not so obvious, w/r or w/mo or other types we always see,
i like some of the posts that some of you had with the different combos, i see an a/n being very very dangerous, especially with maybe vial touch, vamp touch, barbs, and whatever, skill strikes the assassin might have..
hope my first post here was ok...
take care all, and happy killing...

Er, is that an Assassin/Ritualist or an Assassin/Ranger? Gotta add the second letter now ;)
It annoys me to no end when people say something like "W/M" and don't specify whether they mean Monk or Mesmer. (Plus for some reason I always think Warrior/Mage, which makes no sense...)
Although I voted A/E, I am more like to build a Me/A. A/E would be kind of cool zipping in to do a bunch of point-blank damage and zipping out of trouble. Me/A is because I have yet to play a Mesmer in PvE and can't until I have an extra character slot, and I would really like to play a mesmser for the fast-casting and the potential in PvP (I only PvP as a monk right now).

Actually I'm praying they don't change teh Ranger's single "R" they'll be no need to if the ritualists is Ri.
A/Ri all the way - I want to see both professions NOW! *is feeling impatient*
A/E i think.... it just sound so powerful :) or A/Ra because Rangers and Assassins have always been the most played by me.

So apparently only me and one other person like the concept of a A/W? D::
I will be making a A/Ri first and if I like the Assassin enough, I will make a A/W.
First time through is strictly to unlock for me.
Although I am excited about the new weapon types, I think a A/W, would be good because if an Assassin can sneak up on someone and gains a chance to deal as much damage as possible, shouldn't it be with a hammer (high damage weapon)? This is assuming that the new Assassin-based weapon types will not have a high damage max (daggers, throwing knives), and also assuming that sneaking/assassinating skills don't require a specific weapon type.
It all depends on the number of character slots (*Hint hint* Anet) A/Ri probably for speed unlock at least. PvP wise I really like the idea of A/E-Water.
W/A. No one will be able to escape me with my mad teleports!

A/W FTW.
Attack speed stance + Critical hits + Adrenal skill spams. ooh yeah. :happy14:
Or maybe A/Ra, but I dunno. We'll see how things go :)
I plan on making an A/Ra with high Wilderness Survival. Apply Poison, teleport in, then use Jagged Strike to cause bleeding and set up a big dagger combo. Lots of damage and -7 degen all in a few seconds. And since I mostly play Ranger primary now, I'm used to the "hang back and assess the situation" mentality that I suspect will be a big part of playing a successful Assassin. It sounds like their dagger skills will be very situational, so choosing when and where to strike will be very important.

rangers' stance is the best!

traps and preparation (apply posion) will be useful as well, i hope.
anyway, nice to meet u guys, fellow assassins :)
I voted A/Ra....but have just had an idea about A/Mo.
invinci assassin might work, just as something to play around with. might be possible since you gain energy after every critical hit. just an idea.
I'd really like to mess around with A/M for an anti-enchantment/degen build ^^. Spellcasters, fear me ;)

I do suspect that As/Ri will actually be a quite weak combination. The assasin seems to be a very mobile character, while the ritualist is essentially stationary.
Personally i'm torn between creating an A/R or an A/Mo. An A/R to experience the new pets, and an A/Mo to heal myself and npc's that lack common sense.
But in the end i forsee this character (with it's teleporting ability) to be a great asset in pulling targets in pve. Using either Troll Ungent or Healing Breeze as a safe guard.:happy34:

Personally speaking with all this talk of teleporting and such.. I think I'm going to go with either a A/R or a A/N..The ranger has obviously been talked about but I think I may go with the necromancer secondary.. Have alot of wicked touch spells that are just hard to throw in when a necro should be at a safer distance away from malee..Just want to teleport and Vamp Touch someone then hit then with a critical dagger strike..The way I see it Assassins are going to have pretty low armor..I'd say around a rangers armor level since it seems to be following the whole thief/assassin cliche from most other games.. Basically a malee spiker with thin armor..So necro skills could possibly help with getting health back.. But that is just my opinion..

I voted A/Ri but I'll most likey get bored of the combo-initiated hack n' slash and make a Ri/Me. support and damage has always been fun on a ranger, imagine what you could do with a character that is built for that:happy:

I'll probably end up deleting my Warrior or something, and then make an A/R, because I still hav equite a bit of Ranger Skills to unlock.
Then I'll make a Ri/x. Not sure on the secondary yet.
I think i will be making a A/N cuse i think the life steal would do nicely.. hate em healing skills on monk, warrior and ranger. too boring :P

For the PvP weekend, the first Assassin I'll make is a A/N. Seems to me that laying down some Curses like Weaken Armor or Rigor Mortis, and then teleporting in for some crit hit chain attacks would be a lot of fun. Then you could possibly make some wells with the corpses or just do some emergency teleporting with Consume or Traversal.
Of course, A/E has some nice possibilities as well (Shock Assassin? ) or maybe A/Me using Blackout. hmmm

I chose a/ranger. I already love to do the bow shot from tops of cliffs, kind of a assassin trick. This would just make it more fun not to mention the new pets. Second would love to see either a necro/a or a a/necro, either would be positively evil.
I'll probably try out A/W for the fact that I've played the R/W know its power. I can only imagine how well a A/W will work. After that I'm a necro at heart so I'll try that afterwards

I'll probably be a A/W as well since both are melee, so you would have a larger selection of weapons.(sword, hammer, dagger, axe etc.)

It seems the A/Ra-combination is leading, but the situation didn't work a planned.
I had to delete my A/Ra and replace it with a premade A/W due to the lack of skills available without faction points.

Definately A/Rt since i got most of the current skills unlocked and I dont feel like farming 100 thousand faction in Random Arenas :/ Pve much faster to complete and the most the skills are free from quests ^^
Well i voted for A/E but then i really thought about it and i have to say A/Me I am already seeing PvE builds flying before my eyes....(im a big PvE player with a little PvP)
Sun is in us
25-01-2006, 08:27
OK after the weekend....I still vote the same way.......
Will have a A/Rt in 5th slot in pve.....open up my PVP slot for any combo etc....
Reason?
Because an odd combo in PVE (while also unlocking all stuff) teaches you about the nooks and crannies in PVP.
My vote stands.
I'd love the idea of an a/n but considering the usual energy costs of doing vampric gaze and vampiric touch, gods that nice but howz the recharge and total energy of an assassin? I didn't get the time to do PvP since I was working then so my vote ends up with
A/N --- if the energy output of an assassin is better than a warrior
A/Ra --- cuz this looks a good idea
N/A -- sounds interesting too
Not decided yet, but probably Assasin/Mesmer or Assasin/Ranger or Assasin/Ritualist.

I plan on making an A/Me for a fragility build I'm working on. But I also want to make an R/A for a Repeating Strike Build.

My choice for an Assassin type would be a Assassin/Ranger he/she would be a shadow/trapper Specialist. i think in PvE this would be a fine choice however when it comes to PvP the traps my not be the quickest way to kill someone but the survival skills would be Invaluable , in that case i would spec in the art of daggers.

Assassin/Monk. Reason? *Points to his Balthazar's Fang build*
I believe whole heartedly in the A/W.
Mobile, condition heavy, with Healing Signet as a free heal.
R/A :/ only because I'm still convinced Expertise > Critical Strikes :/
and besides i've already farmed up my 75 skillpoints for all assassin skills on my ranger >:[
Assassin/Ranger Troll ungents heal is just too sweet to pass up. The stances are nice because you can use skills while in a stance and trapping is my next favorite thing to do besides BP. :)

assassin/mesmer is best, if you look at some of the assassins skills, it says only works if enemy has a hex on them...

A/Ra here. The only ranger i've ever had is my N/R that I had to delete  to make room for new factions characters (and PvP in the meantime).
Assassin/Mesmer : echo + signet of shadows build
or maybe....
Mesmer/Assassin : Fragility Build
Both can be total ownage.
A/Ri to unlock the skills quickly...
Will later unlock all professions for that char and get all the new skills.
Then it's off to PvP :afro:
think I'll make an A/Mo and an A/Me then decide which is best
Made an A/Ra during the FPE, have to say it worked rather nicely with apply poison and shadow skills.
However, for an initial run for kicks and grins: A/E (although I have some reservations about even that).

I didn't get to try apply poison. I was useing VD cuz I liked the whole, "Here I am... wait.. I'm over here... ahhhh hahaha, now you're poisoned." stuff. But I'll have to check it out sometime soon. I guess the only problem I have with it is it'll drain you of your energy if you spam it too much.
The only ranger skill I went with during the FPE was Troll Ungent and it actually worked pretty well.

Going with an A/Ra. Going by other games, both of these classes usually compete for dexterity/agility items. They are the same in the sense that they deal quick mass dmg somewhat concealed, though one is melee and the other is ranged. Plus, with all the dodge skills already available to a ranger, stacking them with some assassin ones will make for one PITA to kill.

26-04-2006, 11:49
A/W rocks, you can use a shout and a stance *llike critical eye * at the same time.
Watch Yourself is an awesome shout that can almost be spammed by assassins a it only takes 4 adrenline, it helps your team and can give you a AL of 90 easly and almost continally as you attack. It also boosts nearby team AL by 20 which is nice team support too.
If you use watch yourself, then shadow's refuge, then healing signet all in a quick order, you get massive healing, and even during the use of heal signet you be taking -25% damage because of shadow's refuge.
A/W ftw, plus it might be a good runnner ;)

I think taking Ranger for Apply Poison is a bit redundant, when the Assasin already have poison skills. Consider this:
Entangling Asp (availability)
Description: Entangling Asp must follow a lead attack. Target foe is knocked down and becomes Poisoned for 5-17 seconds.
Energy Cost: 10
Activation Time: 1 Second.
Recharge Time: 20 Seconds.
Linked Attribute: Deadly Arts. Increases Poison duration.
Skill Type: Spell.
Then you dont need to invest points into wilderness survival for poison skills, since your natural dagger mastery already provides with. Furthermore, Assasins are about hit and run attacks. You are all about porting to the enemy, wail on him and popping back behind the lines. You are not one to lay down easilly interupted traps.
Infact, I think Ritualists benefits a lot more from traps, since your spirits are immobile, and you then can load up the traps around them.
Assasins have quite a lot of useful abilities in the shadow arts or deadly arts line, making either good for a third line of abilities to invest in, leaving little room for investment in a second class.
Since you are ability point strapped, I think what you should look for in a second class, would be essential unlinked abilities.
If you think about it, what would be the bane of an assasin, what does he rely so much on, that getting one certain condition would hamper him totally. Namely Blind. Here monk comes ahead with unlinked skills to remove condition, remove hex and a repeatable ressurect. Though there is hefty cooldowns on them. But consider necromancers, with their plague touch ability, someone blinds you, stack it on the nearest enemy instead, and it has NO cooldown. Furthermore factions introduce the unlinked skill:
Gaze of Contempt (availability)
Description: If target foe has more than 50% health, that foe loses all enchantments.
Energy Cost: 15
Activation Time: 2 Seconds.
Recharge Time: 20 Seconds .
Linked Attribute: None.
Skill Type: Spell.
Which would be perfect as an opener on those pesky monks hiding behind a ton of protective enchantments, before you proceed to rip him a new one. That I think is in tune with the spirit of the assasin, he is all about shock attacks, popping out of the blue and mollesting the monks or other casters. Imagine the panic when he suffers from a Gaze of Contempt? Especially if this is in your repetoire as well:

I hate to say it, but I think I just might make a A/Ri, but not for any of the reasons I've read so far.
Honestly I thought having an Assassin with a self heal, rez, and undeniably cool spirit weapon spell would be awsome.

A/R or R/A Ranger assassin would use just expertise for ranger part then rest in assassin, and the A/R would use traps or bow(for a cripple) or pet ....kinda an endles possibility.

To me it seems like an assassin is kind of like ranger where you spend most of your attributes in primary anyways. So I will go with ritualist to unlock those spells and get a permanent res. Who knows, maybe with enough energy management you could make use of some of the weapon spells.

alredy made alredy created already lvled to lvl 20
way of no way
lvl 20 assassin / ranger
bow assassin for pve
dont know yet what it will be for pvp :)
Well, I'm making a A/N.
MOstly for the curse and blood spells. They are pretty useful and flexible with what kind of Assassin to make.
Assasin that does a lot of damage or kills by DoT, or both. Healing would not be great as a monk, but while u heal, u can degen mulit enemy health.
A/N all the way!

A7Ra for a pet is a nice idea, but I won't get a tiger. I wait till I ca get a Black Moa, A Phoenix or the other secret pet, or I'll just go to Kryta and get a Lynx

I'm making an A/N, too. Definitely going to go blood and since I'll be up in people's faces and taking lots of damage myself, vampiric touch will be very useful:laugh:
I made mine an A/N... was thinking of doing what some of the others thought about... where I hex the person I'm attacking and using that for extra damage. Not to mention probably bring the necro spell plague conditions to remove negative conditions. Could use weaken armor for the -20 physical armor damage also. Or if you have a high critical strike... you could try virulence to add more conditions once they are bleeding right? Hmm... going to have to think through it more.
