Hi, I thought I'd post a thread informing you guys that I have been chosen as your new Moderator for GWO's Ritualist Strategy forum (many thanks to the GWO Team for this great opportunity).
I, like many of the moderators here, am a Closed Alpha Tester for GW C1 and Guild Wars: Factions, have been testing with the ANet team for just over a year and, since C2 work started, I have concentrated mainly on the Ritualist in all its many facets.
Another reason that I posted here was that I soon hope to get many, many posts here regarding the Ritualist profession, especially since ANet have just announced a 2nd-quarter 2006 release window for C2, as well as a PvP Weekend that ALL of you will have a chance to partake and get to 'sample' BOTH new professions on January 20th - 22nd:
From the GUild Wars official site:
"Players will get their first chance to experience the new campaign when ArenaNet opens its servers to everyone for the Guild Wars: Factions Global Free-for-All PvP Weekend.
This worldwide event — scheduled for January 20th through 22nd — is open to both existing Guild Wars players and to those who do not have a Guild Wars account.
ArenaNet is distributing free access keys to the event at http://www.guildwars.com (http://www.guildwars.com/).
The event will enable players to experience two new professions being introduced in the campaign, the Assassin and the Ritualist.
Participants will also be able to try out a number of the skills added to Guild Wars: Factions, including some of the deadly skills of the Assassin and the arcane spells of the spiritual Ritualist.
They will also be able to get familiar with the new PvP continent, Battle Isles. Battle Isles will introduce players to new PvP experiences, new and expanded arenas, new quests, and a new explorable area as well ."

So bearing the above in mind, I'm ready to answer as many questions as I possibly can here (without breaking the terms of my NDA that is!) and, although I may not be permitted to provide you with very specific details before nextFriday's event begins, I can on the other hand confirm/deny rumours or hearsay, from the sublime to the ridiculous, without 'spoiling the surprise' that is to come.
I do hope to hear from many of you budding Ritualists in the days, weeks and months ahead.
Looking forward to it,
Dark Regards,
/\/\ark of Ritual.
Congrats on Modship! ;)
I hope I won't give you too much work :p

Yes, I was a 'general' Moderator, but now am more focussed.
No, I cannot provide screenies YET; really sorry. :/
Congrads on the modship. I'll take this very special opportunity to kiss TB's butt a bit....so maybe if I get out of line later, I can avoid being banned....

*waves* hello! :howdy:
I bet you're extremely amused by all our wild speculation as to what the class is going to be like, when you already know it inside and out...

Hello! Congratulations on your appointment to the Ritualist Forum Moderator!
I have concentrated mainly on the Ritualist in all its many facets.
I'm assuming that means that the Ritualist is your favorite profession in Guild Wars? Why else would you devote the majority of your Alpha/Beta time to it? I mean if its unique/fun enough to attracted a dedicated fan base ((This being you)) then if should definately provided a fresh and new experience. Hopefully answering that isn't a violation of your NDA.
I just hope that both of the new classes follow the same paradigm as the original six, in that they each "feel" unique. To me that's an important aspect, because I don't want to play something that feels like a rehash of something I've already done. ANet has done a simply amazing job with Guild Wars, and I'd hate to see them get complacent to the point where new caster classes all feel the same as say, an Elementalist, only their spells have different names and graphical effects, or every melee class seems like a warrior clone. I have faith that ANet are more than capable of delievering and excellent second chapter.
Anyways, back to the point. One more time: Congratulations TBMarauder! :happy34:

Ok I'll bite -
How does one become (if still possible) a Closed Alpha tester of anything GW? Unfortunately I didn't bite early enough (went through a period of time where I was shaking off other MMORPG addictions and had to focus on things like work and getting a wife ), just catching a BWE and I've never seen anything about that. I've done the time for other alphas/betas/guiding etc and I've found GW engaging enough I'd do it here too. I'm assuming this isn't a NDA question but who knows I might be wrong!
thanks

@ Cripple X: Yes, imo it is unique and a great deal of fun too.
@ CKaz: I was selected (as a referral candidate) for an alpha position via these very forums, way back when ... :)
As to how to become an alpha tester, there are still many, many ways of being selected as a possible candidate for a closed alpha testing position, as Guild Wars is an 'on-going concern', as it were, with ANet releasing new chapters on a regular basis, so fresh new testers could be needed. - Hope that helps.

Question: What does the Ritualist "bring to the table", so to speak, in the various forms of Guild Wars? As a player, what would make you want the Ritualist in your party over, say, a Ranger, a Necromancer, or a Monk? (The classes I can most compare the Ritualist with the narrow understanding of the class that I have)
TBMarauder
12-01-2006, 02:34
All I can really respond with at this present juncture is to say that the Ritualist brings with them their own unique 'set of cards' to the 'table', just as the Assassin, and in no less respect, the present 6 Professions do.
The Ritualist also has their own unique role to play in any team; just as the others.
Sorry if this sounds vague at the mo; it has to be.
Woot. I Don't think this question will break the NDA, but since they tend to vary, I'm not certain. Anyhow...
Whats your opinion on the Ritualist as a Secondary? Since the the Primary Attribute seems like it would be as important as Expertise is to rangers, are all X/Ritualist kind of stuck using small selection of skills like x/Rangers?

Hope that helps.

I have excatly oposite question - how other class second ritualist primary?
is Ri/R viable beastmaster with only 12 points in BM?
is Ri/N viable summoner with only 12 points in death?
im currently thinking about using Ri/Me (yes, rolling Ri will be 1st thing ill do :), because i heard that laying sripits is gonna be easily interuptable.
are there any current W, Mo and E skills that will yield good or interesting combos? if so, which ones :)

Allow me to help you develop a sick and, twisted sense of humor. You could always post a picture with the Ritualist and, his skill bar blotted out.
Anyway, I am also thoughtful about this new class but, mainly as a secondary to my Monk at this point. Then again, I may end up with a second character that has finished the game.
Oh, and before I forget; Hi.

Hmm, kinda missed this thread.
Anyway, congrats on the Modship TBMarauder.:happy34:
I'm really looking forward to the two new classes, especially Ritualist seems mighty interesting.
I've never seen so much urging to break an NDA! Don't you all know that they pull out your toenails with tweezers if you do that? Don't you like your new moderator?
Just stopping by to say... enjoy the fresh, new forum TB!

Actually I did not word my suggestion right. It sounded right to me when I typed it but, when I looked at it; it did not say what I hoped it would. It was not my intent to ask you to post pictures of anything not released yet.
I was attempting to suggest that you post a picture in the format of some partially declassified government documents. The ones where the only thing declassified is that they exist. Even the subject header is in part blotted out. The only words not blotted out would be words like; the, and, if, at, from.
In this case a picture of a lot of blobs with a little bit of Lions Arch as the only thing visible in the background. Everything not released would be blotted out; ritualist, skills and, everything else of this nature.
When I first had to deal with one of those documents; I found it quite frustrating but, over time I found the humor in them.
Sorry for my poor wording.
TBMarauder
12-01-2006, 18:40
Lawl, 1SG. You are funny, man. 'partially declassified' hee hee :)
So what type of /dance does the ritualist do? Can you describe what the eyes look like with their blindfold off or even if it can come off?
I've been asking that too - on character creation these guys and gals have little blindfolds over the eyes or what? I still think where a lot of people are having a knee-jerk reaction to the cover-up you should be able to make it disappear too, just like any other class (and some ranger/mesmer masks for example).

hopfully you can answer this for me. it has been released that the ritualist is a spirit spammer of sorts (or can be rather) but the wording that was used in computer gaming world got me to wonder about somthing. my first assumtion was that a ritualist spirit would function much the same way as a ranger spirit, i.e. be a global enchant, however one spirit that was listed spec's it as allies only. anyway, bottom line how do ranger and ritualist spirits compare? as much as you can release on this w/out breaking your nda would be awesome thx, and sry if i asked too much

To be completely safe and to not give anything out that would break the NDA, thats not really a question we can answer to the full extent right now. Sorry :(
Keep in mind that a lot of the questions you guys ask, no matter how small you may think they are, can get us released from the alpha if we let even a little info out that shouldnt be. We cannot post any kind of screenshot from the alpha, even if everything is blotted out but the parts that are already released. We cant really give you any in-depth information, either. The easiest thing to say would be "Wait til next weekend; I can vouch that you will not be disappointed" ;)
You can still ask questions, but you may not get the answers you want...

Oh, and I forgot to say: Welcome to the team, TB. I know you will do a fine job as a moderator here :D
Before you guys get back on topic...no wait...I am on topic, nvm.
Welcome TB, and I'm sure this forum will be prosperous under your guiding hand. Though I am familiar with both the new professions, I must say, I have spent most of the time I have been able to spend in the closed testing with the new skills of the current professions, so I'm particularly glad a knowledgable person (TB) will be reigning over this forum from the get go.
I'm pretty sure I've seen 2 screenshots of the ritualist and one of the assassin in some article on the 2nd chapter on a gaming website. I dont know which one though... And posting that link (if i still had it, that is) would not be allowed I think

Hey mates,
My interpretation of the "Ritualist" looks a lot like the "Druďd" from the game "Diablo". The one that can summon creatures and spirits that will stay with him, buff, attack and defend.
I'm not asking you to tell me exactly what the Ritualist does but you can tell me wether or not I am totally off the track with my interpretation.
And by the way: congratulations with your "promotion" TBMarauder.
Peace!
If I hear the words Ritualist, Shaman, Druid and Diablo once more within a single sentence I swear I'll scream so loud you'll all have to make fortitude saves or die.

A person is noticed and watched for a while. They need to be members in good standing in the community, need to be around for a while, have to know their stuff, show promise, etc. Its different for each user, but thats a lot of it.
