Congrats with a thumbs down? I think I have every right to be confused on that one.

Anyway, yes congrats on the new forum, I've enjoyed reading the recent finds, it's a wonderful change from all the "GW sucks" threads popping up every day.

I agree. I've enjoyed reading posts by the likes of Quintus Antonius, Eratimus and others. Keep up the good work, guys.

For some reason it defaulted to that, and my connection had been slow lately, so when I thought I was able to edit it to take the thumbs down icon, it didn't really.

If the mods would be able to change/remove the icon, it would be much appreciated. :)

Hey, speaking of the mods, if a mod reads this, could you possibly change my username to just Mongoose? Thanks.

Congratulations, you guys!

Now that you have a 'campus' of your own, we expect a significant increase in the quality and quantity of your research or funding will be cut and you will all be relegated back to meeting in the canteen. (J/K)

Thank you all for your support and input. I think I can honestly say we wouldn't be here today if not for the community.

The Guild Wars Paleoanthropolgical Society is a department of the Tyrian Academy of Sciences. TAOS includes my division, the GWPS, as well as the departments of my collegues. It is headed by Eratimus. So I guess you could say he is like the overall Dean of the Academy, while I'm just a Professor.

We here at TAOS hope to serve the community well, through our research and Lore exploration. Once again, thank you for your support.

Furthermore, a special, very special thanks must go out to gwonline.net and the moderators, staff, and administration of the site and these forums for their awesome response to our petition and their support of our work.

I hope you will all continue to come to the Tyrian Academy of Sciences for all of you lore needs, and I look forward to serving all of you in my capacity as head of the GWPS and a contributor to TAOS.

... we have funding? Can I apply for a research grant if I haven't officially joined the TAOS or the GWPS?

Uh.....that's news to me....I don't see how you could possibly need funding for a free online game, especially considering the research we do doesn't involve money, unless you are hiring a runner or something.

Zaxares threatened to cut our funding, and that was an attempt to run with a joke. Maybe next time I'll quote it so the funny shows up.

Besides, all my expeditions are funded by the non-human residents of Tyria and any grants would just wind up being used to buy ale and salvage kits.

Yeah, you lost me there, until I read the post you refered to.

I think all our funding would go to ale and kits, either that or dyes and sigils.

I could see it now:

Eratimus: "You were suppose to spend that money on science!"
Scott: "Uh...this is...hmm...this is a science kit?"
Eratimus: "No...that's a superior SALVAGE kit, and it's dyed black!"
Scott: "A superior salvage kit of SCIENCE dyed black with the power of experimentation!"
Eratimus: *sniffs* "Do I smell Dwarven Ale? Have you been drinking?"
Scott: *hiccup* "Drinking for SCIENCE!"

Can I be the official hunchback assistant and annoy everybody with my ramblings and odd screenies???

;)

BTW, many congratulations. I used to frequent this site until I came across the 'other' site. But it was Eratimus' threads that brought me back.

Haha, we can even make you the gatekeeper. I can see it now, "Barinthus the Druken Hunchbacked Porter."

As a reminder, as this is still a community lore forum, it is not one SPECIFIC to the Tyrian Academy of Science. Whle we will be posting our lore research articles here, and the like, as a reminder that this is also open to the public for aspects outside TAOS, so please be welcome to do so. I just don't want to give off the wrong impressin that we duped GWO into getting us our own forum. While they are giving us a site here, I just want to make everyone know that indeed this is a community lore forum so everyone is welcome to participate, not just TAOS, although probably most will be TAOS members considering our roster :)

But it is great for us to finally have a forum for lore. Thank you GWO!

And a special congratulations to Eratimus for his new position as Lore Forum Moderator.

Break out the Dwarven Ale, it's party time!

This is some nice news.
I've always been interested in the lore-aspect of games. Be it Baldur's Gate, Elder Scrolls, Guild Wars or whatever. I believe the creation of this forum will greatly add to the depth of Guild Wars.

And now I can finally remove the 'GW-lore links' out off my favorites.
Grats at Eratimus and the other 'employees'!

Huzzah! I am so excited that this is now organized. IMO these are always the most interesting threads. Now I've got to contribute!

Congrats, guys! You deserve a sub Forum for yourselves. I hope someone is also storing all of those researches somewhere, so one day you may release a Guild Wars Enciclopedia.

(Does someone else think of Arcanum, that more or less old RPG, when they read the posts by the TAOAS?)

Ahh yeah, I can image that happening all too well. Congrats Eratimus on your new position of Powa! I'll try to get our resource site up as soon as I can.

Strangely ... I see a point to Scot the Green comment ... ok run with this:

Being that this Lore forum is of high interest for players who enjoy cataloguing, who seek to find places of interest. A select group of "Scribes" with specific goals.

But there's another group of players with different interests, the "Profiteers" <cough>Ubermancer<cough> and the undertakings they persue:

Now, frustrating as this is, its even more demoralizing when you consider that my guild (shameless plug (http://p3.forumforfree.com/viewtopic.php?t=10&mforum=rfe)) is going to be putting together a 3 man Thunderhead Keep running service (M+B) today. This would enable us to take 5 people at a time, and reasonably charge a significant amount, due to both the dificulty of the rush and the amount of frustration it causes amongst people trying to complete it legitly. However, people scamming us is a much more serious problem here, because the run takes a long time, and we have to split the profit. Meaning that if only 2 people dont pay (and its likely to sometimes be more), our profit drops down to 5/3 of what we charge to 3/3.

So I have a proposition. Contracts.

Proposition ... hmmmm? How about this suggestion.

Find a "Patron" to sponser an expedition to some of the harder areas (UW and FoW) and reward them with something more valuable than gold. Shamelessly name the discoveries after them. :wink3:

Just a thought that has possiblities for fun. :cloud9:

How exactly would that work? Credit usually goes to the person who discovers, not the person who paid. Usually only things like sports stadiums are named after sponsors. Still, its intriquing.
