Target ANY spirit. . .Not just your own.

You can complete drain enemy spirits of energy.

This leaves some questions though. For one can spirits function after they are out of energy? I know earthbind will continue to function since it uses it's health as the energy source, but what about perseverance or even the attacking spirits like pain.

If you spectate a spirit it uses an ability to attack. It may take energy, but i'm not sure.

Also as a side note if you distract a spirits ability will it sit on it's @$$ for 20 seconds? That could make the elites bind rituals 100% worthless on top of the fact that you may be able to drain their full energy bar.

Yeah, you can shut down any spirit in several different ways. There are other spells that just steal life and spells like Spirit Siphon. I don't know about interrupting, but it could be.

In the long run, the spirits are still serving as meat - or, ethereal - shields. I'd much rather worry about hitting the spirit's creator than the actual spirit. Why waste an interrupt on a spirit when you can so much more easily interrupt the Ritualist himself?

If I were a ritualist and a shutdown mesmer or interrupt ranger started wasting time trying to stop my spirits, I think I'd be over-joyed.

Interrupts, Hexes, conditions etc; none of them work on Binding Rituals.
But would 'Dissonance' interrupt an enemy Binding Ritual? Hmmm ...

Saying dissonance *interrupts* and based on your previous statement, I would deduct that it does not.

Interesting. . .

So can you hoze say the elite bind rituals by draining all their energy?

as they need their energy to cast: i'd guess yes

I tested draining a spirit's energy (I think shadowsong?), and it continued to use its attacks at the same rate as it always does. I can only assume that their skills do not use energy, although I can't speak to every ritualist spirit, I would be very surprised if some used energy while others did not.

It's not game breaking to any build i've made so far, but it would be interesting to get to the bottom of this.

May just have to wait for the 24th!

I wonder if you can use Spirit Siphon on ranger spirits...

With the current wording you can, unless they change it.

I used it last BWE and i didn't like it that much.

I don't think spirits even use energy, they just have some (like pets). I drained my own spirits and they kept working normally.

But what i didn't really like is that you gain very little energy from it, and it has a fairly long cooldown. Unless there ARE some spirits that use energy (maybe like the elite spirit healing people at random) i don't see the use for it atm.

I'm pretty sure that all the spirits attacking (Bloodsong, Dissonance, etc) don't need any energy for it, and i really doubt spirits like Union or Shelter need any too.

The only one i can currently think of that might use energy is the one sending heals (can't remember the name atm =/, Preservation?).

And yes, you can use it on ranger spirits.

I don't know if 'Dissonance' will interupt but I've interupted many spirits.. Good question. Have to go build a spirit arena and let 'em fight each other

Spirits fighting each other = Canthan chess
