anyone tried it?
if so...is it possible to have a "Pure" Assassin, without Daggers? Talking Critical Strike, Deadly Arts, Shadow Arts specced, but no daggers.
what weapons would you use in this case?
I'm asking because I like Deadly Arts and Shadow Arts, but i don't like the Melee of the Assassin. I like the Thrown Dagger Spells, and the Shadowstepping and such, but i don't like the Dagger combat.
I'm considering a Ranger/Assassin Build consisting of Expertise, Wilderness Survival, Deadly Arts and Shadow Arts. yeah, he'd be a Trapper for PvE.
I'm just wondering, beyond trapping, what this guy might find himself doing in combat.
any thoughts?

As far as we know, the Critical Strikes attribute works on any weapon.
Just FYI.

I was thinking about this as the Dagger's move have to be combo'd so an interrupt at the start of your chain = useless untill the skill is recharged...
I was thinking a Touch based Necro/Assassin so...
16 Blood
other point's in DA, SA and Death/Curse's and any left over in SR?
possible skills:-
Vamp Gaze?
Vamp Touch
Vamp Bite?
Recall
Death Charge
Shadow Strike
Rez Sig
Weapon: None Needed
Icon: +12 energy req 9 Blood, +15 energy -1 regen (its something like that)
What you think?

I ran an A/R for a little during the event. He used a bow and whatever bow skills came default, plus some assasian defense. I did a 11/10/10 point spread with bow mastery, critical strikes, and beast mastery (for the tigers fury-esq IAS skill). It seemed to work pretty effectively, but then again I had some pretty badass henchie support, stuck to the begining areas and didnt get many more than the base skills. One thing I did notice was that I didn't crit as often as I imagined I would, even with the crit buff spell and the IAS buff. It was still a fairly entertaining build, and I had Ranger-quality armor with the energy regen of a caster which was nice. Plus a tiger ;-)
AXAssin (A/W) or with a Bow (A/R) could be pretty good if you can buff the number of criticals to a decent rate. Maybe 16 Critical Strikes plus Critical Eye and other buffs?
As far as we know, the Critical Strikes attribute works on any weapon.

I'm hearing that magic based attack weapons do not work. CS requires physical damage which puts wands, tuncheons, and staffs in the "not capatible category." If somebody has actually tried this and it does work, correct me if I'm wrong then.

I want to find an assassin/warrior sword build. Partially because assassins look so damn cool with Oni Blades:afro: and partially because the daggers blind weakness. I'm going to look at the new warrior sword skills and try to make one. If i do i will sure to post it here.

If you wanna use a bow, generally, a R/- with expertise would save alot more energy then an A/R with caster mana regen.
Also, the A/R would have sucky armor vs elements.

Ive been thinking about a build of a A/W with sword and a foci, havent actualy started working on it yet..
I just love how the assassin runs with a longsword.

Life Steal A/N would quickly run out of energy to keep himself alive.

I realise the R/A has better energy savings via expertise, but I was trying to both gain a bit of energy, and raise my DPS with critical strikes, I read one thread where a guy had 16 CS and using the +to critical chance buffs was critting approx 2/3 of his shots when using barrage. I dont know how this damage compares to a ranger primary with marksmanship at 16, but with the addition of 4 pips of regen on the sin primary, and some decent excape (Dash was pretty cool) skills, i thought the A/R was fairly viable. And besides, the Sin bow animation rocked *** ;-)

As far as looks go I'd suggest a katana. But I suppose you could use whatever other weapons your secondary profession can use.
Yes, I made a N/A that used deadly arts in combo's.
I had to avoid most of the physical stuff due to my staff, but chaining palm attacks, dagger throws with conditional hexes was nice. However, for the cooler spells that blind and what not, i think it's fairly impossible with out some sort of melee weapon.
Though honestly, running an A/W was the highlight of my factions time. Critcal eye with a sword and sheild is marvy.

Critical Strike only triggers if you are wielding melee weapon, otherwise critical hits will trigger normally.

Actually I used an A/R build during the preview weekend and it had absolutely no energy problems. Critical strikes offered a great means of gaining energy while dealing more damage. sharpen daggers added another benefit, bleeding, that stacked well with poison.
The potential damage and energy gain from an A/R with barrage would be sick I think.
critical strike at 13= +3 energy on critical hit plus another +1 from critical eye. worked for me even with the limited skills in the preview.
( I know barrage strips preps, not saying use poison and barrage at same time)

Hmmm... don't remember seeing any ranger bosses in Cantha with Barrage. But then I didn't get everything explored. Was this guy PvPing by any chance?
