I didn't pay any attention to this thing until last night, preferring to zip by it on the way to earning faction.

Perhaps someone with a better grasp of written Chinese and/or Pinyin can help. I know some of the characters, but not all.

1. "Mouth"
2. "Sun"
3. Unknown, but looks very familiar.
4. "Middle" (the second symbol from the left, or the eh, middle one.)

The symbol on the cloth superficially resembles a "happiness/good luck" character, but isn't.

The rest of it looks like nonsense, characters that "look" like written Chinese, but aren't. I can't say that for sure, since my grasp of written Chinese is sketchy (better at listening and speaking Mandarin).

if you look closely at character 1, there's a dot above the square, so it is not mouth. character 3 is the word "star" reversed horizontally.

but i believe these are made up symbols, not chinese characters, nor japanese katakanas or hiraganas

I agree, they are not Chinese characters (close, though).

I think the artist who drew those probably drew inspiration from various Asiatic languages (in this case, Mandarin chinese), but then altered them so that they weren't direct lifts from a specific language.

I believe they do mean something though. Perhaps they combined several different katakana symbols from various Asianic languages to form a combine symbol that represents all of them.

Also, the colors of the banners may play a role in the meaning of the symbol.

There is probably a meaning here, and I think, as lore enthusiasts, we should try to figure it out, or at least, get some semblence of what it means.

Agreed.

Perhaps each of those colored banners hanging from the roof represent a god/goddess? The characters on the banner could even be the Canthan language for the names of the deities. We should keep an eye out during Factions and see whether there's a universal trend here.

Just a note, these EXACT shrines are found all over the low level part of Cantha, the Monestary.

I won't post a screen shot cuz they are identical.

just a little more information.

I was thinking more along the lines of "Luxon", "Kurzick", and "Canthan".

Think about it. There are three banners, in a team arena, and three main factions, it would make sense. However, they may also indicate something like "Tyria", "Cantha", and a yet unrevealed continent or something we've already seen such as "Battle Isles".

i think the whole hting is a canthan shrine

the symbol on the cloth is found all over Keinang city. Those shrines are easily seen in Shing Jea Monestary.
