factions freazes my computer completely, after like 10 mins of play. I have an above requirements computer, its prettymuch brand new. On my old computer it also froze it, the game is completely unplayable.
before factions was released i used to be able to sit for hours on Guildwars without a problem, playing it at full graphics. Now all of a sudden it freazes at random intervals between 5 - 10 mins of use. I havent even gotten off the first island.

AMD 64 3000 processor
1.5 gigs Ram
Geforce 6600GT 128mb card
160gig HD

What could be causing the problem?
I have all the latest drivers, and no malicious software crashing my computer, its so annoying that factions is so unplayable.
Games that require more power run better than factions! At least they dont crash the bloody computer. And A-Nets help team havent been much use, they tell me to do things like shutdown all background programs, which ive done. One point they even told me to remove the side of my computer and place a household fan in front of it in case my computer is overheating. If it worked fine before factions, then in theory it should work fine WITH factions, likewise if it runs newer games perfectly fine to. my computer has about 6 fans in it alltogether + 2 more on the side of the case, it cannot be overheating (it keeps my feet cool if i put them there :P lol).
Any suggestions? Anyone else having the same trouble as me?

First, what do you mean by freezing? Do you mean the game and your computer completely stop? Or just that the characters merely stop responding to your commands?

If it's the latter, then you're not alone; ANet has been experiencing some problems, so if you go into a common zone like the Monastery on some districts, you'll experience horrible lag.

If it's the first, then one thing you may not have thought of is your sound driver. I find that a lot of games have mysterious conflicts and crashes when they have onboard sound.

Ahh!! that may explain some things. I have the latest Nvidia sound driver if that helps?

But how roughly can i solve this issue? and why is factions the only one out of the two games that crashes? :S

Nvidia makes sound drivers?

Anyway, I would like to ask again on what you mean by freezing. If you're referring to "laggy" parts where you press a button but nothing happens, but the rest of your computer is responsive, then it's because the Factions servers are currently experiencing some technical difficulties.

Its when my computer completely freezes up, meaning i have to turn it off then on again to get a response.

Wow. That's a pretty serious problem.

Hmm. Have you tried windowed mode yet?

no but i am trying everything. I seriously dont know whats wrong with it, Guild Wars worked fine with it! And as soon as factions was released this problem started occuring. Noone else i know has it, except a few people have told me their crashes sometimes to but bleh. Im going to test the crap out of this game, and try to see what is going on with it.

You may have an overheating problem. You'll want to check your CPU temperature (try Lavalys's Everest Home Edition, or your BIOS), and your video card's temperature if you can.

Yep it overheats. I guess i have to buy a new card ora new fan for it or something. Whats bizzar is that it overheats with two other fans next to it blowing cold air at it all the time. And it ONLY happens with factions.

Um, for a computer component, there is no such thing as cold air. If using fans for cooling, there is only room temperature air and then inside computer case temperature air. Just because you have two fans blowing air on it doesnt mean that the cpu or gpu will not overheat. It could be that the cpu is not seated properly or was seated properly at one point but became unseated. If this happens, air can get trapped in the gaps and can quickly make the heatsink and other cooling components uneffective in dispersing the heat.

Just to let you know I was having simular problems with my copy of Factions.
I also have/had no problems with Guildwars and other games.

For me it does seem to be a onboard soundcard/driver error/confliction with Factions. What I did was to lower the sound quality setting under F11 options to middle of the bar. It makes FC relativly stable then. With sound quality bar on lowest or highest, it would often give sounds glitches 1st (but not always) then it would complety lock up my PC forcing me to hardware reset. I tryed different soundcard drivers versions, but no luck. Best for me was to simply lower sound "quality" not that I noticed any difference, but then I am only running a 2.1 sound setup.

Oh yeah, for best test, change sound quality bar level, then quit game and restart.

Hope it helps.
