Mesmers are indeed becoming more popular with Factions. However, there are some areas where people do not want Mesmers. They mainly want them when they know there are some rather tasty bosses to take down, but not when there are waves upon waves of huge mobs of enemies. *Sigh*

Tips for being a Mesmer... invest a lot of time into it, to get a firm grasp on the class. If you are starting in Cantha, clear all of the quests on Shing Jea Island. Get as many skills as you can; because you will find yourself changing them quite a lot; trying to adapt your build to a new area. Try Monk as a secondary profession aswell, so you have a nice hard resurrect spell, and will give you another 7 slots to experiment with Mesmer skills, and play about with it.

IMO opinion, Tyria is the best place to start a first-time Mesmer, but if you are good at picking things up quick, you'll do fine in Cantha. I'm sure there are other people here who'll give you a better insight, but I have one final note: prepare to experiment.

Yeah, I've seen more groups lf mesmers in cantha then I ever did before playing in Tyria.

I don't PUG much, but I never had much trouble to get into a group when I tried. A lot of areas in Factions are a Mesmer's paradise and some people other than Mesmer players have realized that by now, too.

I don't have a Factions Mesmer, but I should probably make one. I really like the greater range of direct-damage skills suck as Images of Remorse and Overload. Gives more options than degen when you just need to hit something.

In Factions, mesmers still aren't popular but people allow them in, like rangers.
"Everything better than an assassin".

That's basically it.

I had heard that mesmers were more popular in Cantha than Tyria, but I personally have found little difference. I only PUG when I absolutely have to, and sometimes it still takes a while to find a group. I always find one eventually though. And I have only been kicked from groups twice, I guess they decided that somebody else would be more useful.

Just remember that a mesmer must not only be effective in battle, she must always look her best as well. Being beautiful is such a burden sometimes.

I have yet to see anyone looking for a Mesmer on the Factions side.

Usually it's looking for Warriors,Monks, Minion Master, Elementalist and if you're quick you get one of the "left over" spots.

I haven't had a problem so far getting into a group but I haven't seen anyone wanting a Mesmer either.

Mesmers can make a huge difference. Just wish everyone else knew it.

Places that I have no problem being a Mez are Altrumm Ruins for some FF (man I love the ruins), Sunjiang District if the team is looking for a Master Bonus (Unnatural Sig kills portals fast), and Imperial Sanctum when the group wants to make Shiro a punk.

Actually I only played a male mesmer, but I know what you mean. With the new factions method of crafting armor, it's even easier to make a character into a rampant clothes-horse! Only one little problem: the giant flaming ball of suck that is some of the male Factions armor.

Specifically, Canthan Armor. "And this one time, at Band Camp...". This armour is however useful in PVP, so the other team are collapsed helplessly laughing. Far better than interrupts!

Luckily, I like mixing parts.

Hmmm its either a mesmer or a warrior for my last character slot... I had 6 characters deleted my assassin once she beat the game.. (Im not much into assassins in pve >.>... she got put on the shelf shortly after beating the game never touched again really.) So I have one slot next to my monk, rit, necro, ele, ranger. Now I must decide... Try a mesmer and see what I can do or make a warrior and be a big dumb all be it cute meat shield...

And which path is more fun and easier to learn overall Dom or Illusion?

Illusion is nice for massive degen, semi-spike with clumsiness and stuff like arcane conundrum (which makes it easier to intterupt).

Dom has more interrupts though (though inspiration and fast cast supply some too) and pre-emptive shutdowns (guilt, diversion to blackout).

I think Dom needs more focus on what you and your opponent are doing (timing your intterupts), while illusion can be more fire&forget (dump degen and retarget).

If you haven't played a warrior before, I think it's something you should try as it's a completely different perspective on gameplay (up-close, high armour, adrenaline skills, low energy but cheap skills) even when compared to assassins. Spellcasters can tend to play more alike than to warriors.

I agree. Go with the warrior. See what it's like from the other end, and it might give you a different perspective. I don't know if you'll keep it or delete it when done, but the experience is worth it nonetheless.

I had hoped that mesmers would get more popular with Factions. I'm glad they did, I was getting sick of mesmers being rejected from PvE teams, but you don't see that much now.

See I've had a warrior... Honastly I was torn between the two only because they were my last two options... If you notice my list of characters all but 1 is a caster.. Guess im a softy for casting.. >.>And warriors tend to get dull after awhile from what i played of one.

In my personal experiance of the warrior i was bored stiff.... whacking something over the head just isnt my idea of fun...

that and i find the skills really dull too.

However i do agree with the sentiments that you should try each character class at least once.

Good luck finding any mesmers in the pve outposts during the later stages of the game.

I headed a party for one of the missions and specifically advertised for a mesmer to join our group. There were none to be found. After that incident, I realized that very few mesmers exist.

There is no difference in Tyria and Cantha. The only recipe for questing and missions are: Tank, Healer, Nuker and MM.

The same missions that everyone is crying about would not be so hard if they would only invite some defensive players into the party.

Really you may want to try running both though you really need to work on managing your energy.

I pretty much run high Illusion/Domination with left over in Fast Casting and it's alot of fun because you can really spread out some damage and watch a group of mobs die fast. Backfire here...Empathy there....little Clumsiness....lots o degen.

For a regular mass of mobs I view it as single target AoE so to speak.

If you need to choose between the two I'd say Domination has more options but is more energy/recast intensive while most of the Illusion items use less energy and have a shorter recast (most not all).

Mesmer is just alot of fun. Got to love Archane Echo and Backfire on two Monk mobs.

I couldn't believe it. I was at the War Camp the other night and someone was actually spamming:

"Group looking for mesmer. Oro farming."

Something's going on. I never thought I'd see that.

I noticed a fair bit of mesmer love yesterday. Okay, I wasn't that surprised when I got an invite at Boreas Seabed (it's a bit of a hot spot for us), but a big surprise waited for me when I got to the Sunjiang District mission. The surprise was reading: "Master's group looking for interrupt mesmer." My jaw just about hit the floor and I wasted little time joining the group (though we sadly got a bit lost during the mission and only got Expert).

Those weren't the only occurrences either. I was in a variety of outposts that day, and in most of them, there were groups requesting the services of a mesmer. I do think that mesmering has gotten to be a more respectable job to a wider amount of players than in Prophecies. I've never seen so many people asking for them.

IMHO if you enjoy monking, go mesmer

My two favourite toons are my mesmer and my monk, in HA i also prefer to play monks (infuse/SB is so much fun) or mesmers.

Warrior might seem better than mesmers at first, but just give both a try and see what you like more

when you finally decide to play mesmer, I wouldnt be surprised at all

I heard that, PD all the way

you might find it doesnt interrupt him, but when he is finished casting a spell it fails

I had my own jaw-dropping moment, seeing a group advertising that they were looking for a mesmer. I wasn't in with mine, otherwise I would have joined in a heartbeat. Since then, I've seen two or three other groups looking for mesmers, which is two or three more than I ever saw in Prophecies.

Lets face it mesmers can be (if used correctly) the most effective class in the game. Two and Three spell combos like Ineptitude/Clumsiness, Fevered Dreams/Conjure Nightmare, or Aracane Conundrum/Interupt Skills make mesmers increadably powerful. The only downside is that they are underappreciated in PvE and PvP. Not to sound cocky or anything but i think a player whos main is a mesmer is an overall better player for all classes because it keeps you alert. Thats my opinion and those of you who are to stupid to realize this can go back to their hack and slash ways and wonder why the enemy is dying so fast when a mesmer is in your group.
