Well, the Guild Wars PvP Editions (http://www.guildwars.com/support/gamecontents/pvpeditions.php) are here  And for both Prophecies and Factions too
I'm glad this has been done. While I won't buy either of them (full CE for me, thanks ), I believe the PvP only players will like this.
(Now all we need to know is when Arena Net is going to release the PvP edition of Nightfall)

Easy Button edition? lol
Interesting. I'm sure many interesting points will come of this decision. I welcome the choice for customers though.
Loving it. This is a definite boon for PvP players, and I'm glad they've done this. Now I need to log in and see what the price is of that, because I'm somehow expecting the Factions one to be more expensive than the Prophecies one.
Choice is good.
Gives players that are only interested in PvP the option to jump right in with full unlocks and play as they want.
I suspect we'll see Nightfall PvP edtion released with the standard version on friday to the online shop.

Neato. I personally would never buy it, but good to know it's finally here for those who wanted it.

Not quite, its not very "difficult" to unlock the needed skills for a solid build currently. This would be the easy button edition if it also instantly made you good at everything, which I sure don't think it does  .

Hmm.
*Pulls out wallet*
I've been wanting those Factions skills unlocked..though I already unlocked many of them, so maybe not.
Depends what the price is; I cannot see the PvP packs in the store yet- I'll give it some time to appear, as this news bit was only added about 3 mins ago.

I'm curious if they do stagger the box juxtaposed to the pvp edition's release dates.

I think Gaile once said that they'd release the PvP edition when they released the next chapter normal edition. So we'll see Nightfall PvP edition with the release of chapter 4.
Anyway, I'm UAX so it hardly matters to me. But then again you could now start a PvP only account I think... though you might have to buy the skill slot separately.

What? You mean to tell me that I have been playing the PvE edition of the game all along for the past 1 year+?
Note that they automatically unlock the skills but not the items. Doesn't matter to me since I NEVER unlock skills using Balthazar's factions, I always unlock them through PvE so that they are unlocked for BOTH. I save up all my factions to unlock item mods and runes only.

It's probably a rolling update; webpage for the announcement, updates page, servers next and then the online store or something. It's only 34 minutes since the announcement went out

Nah, it's an addon to the "Gaile radar" I found it and ran over here about two minutes after he did, apparantly. (I'm not a compulsive website checker, I swear!)

Well, runes and upgrades are core content (other than the assassin/ritualist stuff), so it wouldn't be as valuable to people who bought multiple chapters of the PvP edition. Also, it (I'm guessing, don't know the exact numbers) takes a lot less faction to get All Unlocked Runes than UAS.

The problem with Runes is, you can't unlock them by buying from the rune trader. You need to actually id one, so they are hard to unlock and you have to unlock the minor first, then major, then superior which is a pain.
Items mods are also important in PvP since you cant transfer a green item from the PvE world if you only own the PvP edition.

Why am I not suprised :p
Also broken for US players?
Broken here too, in the EU.
They seem to have added status text about why you can't buy campaigns if you've already got them too.

And thanks for the positive reception to the PvP Editions. We think it's a great new addition!

When you click on PvP Editions it simply gives a blank screen, the old PvP unlock packs also still exist on the store and when you go the PvP editions page from one of the others it doesn't change the content, only the colour of the background.

Added: The old PvP unlock packs have been removed now, PvP editions bit still the same.
It's not possible to access the PvP Edition tab, the interface sticks to whatever tab you were in before but without the side bar.
'Campaigns' tab:

After switching to the 'PvP Editions' tab:

When you first go in the store, the PvP Editions screen appears to be selected (by the way the button is lit up) but nothing appears on the screen, just the background and info bar + options to exit store.
If you click Campaigns or Upgrades, they appear successfully, however if you click PvP Editions, the side bar showing the products disappears, but the main window showing product information stays with nothing replacing it.

When clicking on the PvP edition button in the store, Nothing happens.
If you click on Campaigns or Upgrades, then click on PvP edition again, the left sidebar vanishes. But the stuff that was on the screen before sticks.
Also, the Prophecies single unlock pack are still under the Upgrades tab, kinda redundant to have them still, no?

Not at all IMO. If the customer wants to play PvP and nothing but PvP, they can pay just for the PvP element at a reduced price without having to pay for the whole product. The skill packs are for people who can't be bothered hunting down all the bosses or paying for the skills for their PvP character.

For the records, I don't see the single unlock packs - all I see in the Upgrades tab is the option of buying more character slots.
(I miss the good old Guild Wars theme :cloud9: Nice to hear it in the store)

The single unlock packs have vanished from under the Upgrades tab now as I expected, but Pvp Edition is still unavailable.
I have a screenshot with both the PvP Unlock Packs and the PvP Editions (the tab which is still not working).

£23.99, that comes out to just under the same price as the full version. So that price cant even be close to accurate. Any more than 25USD or 15Pound is a ripoff, and Im assuming AN has unannounced extra PvP content or else its not even worth a look at.

Just checked the old prices of the PvP unlock pack so it should be $39.99, €35.99 or £23.99. One of those 3 depending where you are.

Gaile, something else is perhaps broken now.
In the upgrades section, the skill packs have disappeared.
It may be reasonable to delete the buy all Prophecies skills at once item, but I dont think the class-specific items should be gone.
Is it now supposed to be like this?

$39.99 American dollars, 10 less than the full game. Sounds reasonable enough to me, considering what those packs are for. Thanks, Arena Net
(Now we only need the NF one to be released this Friday too :azn:)

Yes, back when they said they were going to be making the PvP editions, Gaile said over at TGH that the old ones would be phased out for these editions.
Thanks for the info. I see what happened -- we rolled it live on the server, but were still doing last-minute testing with certain account types. Of course, someone forgot to tell someone who does the news posting, and she sorta... err... posted. :innocent:
Anyway, all is working as it should now, and thanks for your patience with that and for the information that helped certain of us figure out what was going on.
Oh, yes, the PvP Unlock Packs have been phased out now. With the offering of the full PvP Editions, and with previous purchasing statistics to back up the decision, we've elected to stick with the full-game versions and not the individual profession packs. I hope that no one is inconvenienced by this; it really does seem the preponderantly popular decision.

since your buying core twice, its a waste of cash.

Gaile, can you go back and ask the calculator jockies and the dev team why the pack is priced so high despite no new PvP competitions, no new PvP titles, No new PvP maps, no new chapter specific PvP content, no new PvP armor options and a missing 90% which accounts for the PvE side.
The whole point of a PvP edition is so people who play PvP only, dont have to pay for content they dont use. To warrent a price so high there would need to be upwards of 10x the PvP content per chapter there is now, and there simply isnt.

All of the skills in the PvP packs (even the elites) come unlocked. The person who buys them is also paying to avoid having to spend the time slowly grinding and unlocking all the various skills and elites available.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a PvP pack (as I prefer to unlock everything via PvE anyway), but I can see how this would be useful for somebody new who just wants to jump straight into the highest levels of PvP.

Just think of it like this,
If the people really truely only want to play PvP then even if they bought the full version they wouldn't be experiencing the content outside of the PvP areas of the game, but they have to spend tons of time unlocking skills/items/runes and what not.
The way I see it is that with the PvP version of the game the player is paying for the PvP content and the time that is save by all the unlocks that the he/she has right from the start, where as with the "full" version (full as in you get all the content) you are paying for just the content and have to put forth the time to unlock all those things that come unlocked in the PvP version.
Basically, the PvP is charging for content and convenience where the "full" version is charging for content and content. You could also look at it as not having to buy the "full" version and then buy the unlock packs for each "full" version.

If that was how they were thinking then the unlock packs would remain and the PvP edition would be available by itself radicaly cheaper. Of course this isnt how it is at all.

@TeeBeeNZ
Actually, if the little bit that you quoted where what they intended (ie buy the current version and use the unlock packs) then you would be paying a lot more money (price of GWP + GWP unlock pack + price of GWF + GWF unlock pack) than you would by just using the PvP packs (GWP PvP pack + GWF PvP pack).
GWP and GWF core games alone are ~$100, then add the price of the unlock packs onto that (I don't remember the prices of the packs but I assume that they were at least $10 to $15 for the campaign unlocks so about $120 to $130 total), where the PvP packs are ~$35 by one of the previous posters estimates (so the two together are ~$70).
So right there it is almost 2/3 to 1/2 off of what it would cost if you bought everything the other way.
The only people who pay extra are the people who want to play PvE and PvP, and don't want to unlock. I play both, but I'm only a bit away from all skills anyway and don't care to spend the money, so I'm not paying any extra. PvE only players aren't effected. PvP only players get the huge benefit of saving $10 and a lot of time.
So yeah. I don't see a problem. If you like both sides of the game like I do, why not just unlock what you need like I do? The best anyone can do is buy a small head start in PvP. I think this is a great move to give a much larger number of people exactly the game they enjoy.

Just wait a coupla months and Factions will cost like twenty bucks. Buy it, unlock the skills you want to with your faction/character, and then you are good to go.
This PvP pack thing is an insane ripoff, in my opinion. An extra $20 isn't worth the time saved.
Isn't there a market for such fully developed unlocked character accounts on eBay? Perhaps this will put some of those dealers out of business.
Would be cool if purchasers of such a pack would also be granted their very own "Big Spender" title. :starry:

Yeap... and ebay says that the PvP-Ed packs are a very good deal... Not to mention they are legal and ebay is not.
