since the last update has anyone else had hideous lag problems? i'm trying to figure out if it was just my modem or something else. it's driving me crazy, i'm at a complete and total stand-still.
Better suited to the Technical forum, where we deal with game related technical issues. (The forum you posted in is for Forum support)
A few things would be useful to know:
1. Which server do you connect to?
2. What are the results of a gw.exe -diag?

i just went through the support site and checked the performance which was extremely low .. i tried to lower the res and other terrain settings which didn't help at all. it's what the site recommended. me entire screen is frozen most of the time and i can't rotate around the character.
For us to help you, you need to provide some additional info about your system and setup. For starters, if you can answer Katya's two questions, they would help. Are you connecting to the US or the European servers? One set can have issues while the others don't. Can you modify your GW shortcut to include -diag and post the results? That will help identify whether it's a network connections issue.
Take a look at this sticky thread (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?t=414139). If you can provide us the information listed under the section that starts with "When posting, ...", that would help us greatly to help you.
Also, some people have reported performance issues, which were traced to sound drivers/cards. Have you tried disabling sound and see if the problem goes away? Feel free to page down in this forum and browse some recent posts, several discusses performance issues that may fix your problem.
Cheers.

It's not him. Stop asking him for technical reports. Everyone screams about lag in PvP. That did not happen before Nightfall.

Sometimes problems are related to one ISP. This can usually be picked up by looking at a diagnostic report. Sometimes a specific server is down on ArenaNet's end. Again, a diagnostic report will tell you this as it attempts to connect to the servers you actually play on.
And so sorry to say this, but yes - it could be him. I am not saying it is him. But it could be. Without any form of diagnostic though, it's impossible to tell.

From the 2 posts that Embers made it appears that she is having issues with her graphics card. My second thought is that she was in a town with all of those Ghost in a box's but I don't know when all that started.
I would like you to add -perfs to the end of your guildwars shortcut and after you get into the game there will be white text info at the top of your screen that tells you something about Triangles and FPS and Bytes per sec. When the FPS drops low enough you won't be able to use the camera function very well. I know you checked some of your graphical settings in guildwars but did you try turning off your AA settings or shadows or post process effects?
I know that in windowed mode (prior to the recent updates) in Kamadan and with Anti Aliasing on at any level I get around 1-5 fps.
And Once Upon A Time, there is a node inbetween your ISP and Anets ISP that has a problem. You should really do the -diag and find out where the problem is inbetween your ISP and theirs. I've read your recent lag posts and although you think whole-heartedly that it's Anets problem I think it could be a problem with your ISP or another node on the internet that you're route is taking.
My ISP said there was nothing wrong with their equipment, but there was and it was fixed with a power outage for the city, I know because I replaced all my equipment with brand new stuff before the outage and it was the same as with my original equipment. After the outage everything returned to normal.
Im have same problem and it all started right after the update. Your not alone on this one. I could play anytime up until the update. Now i cant play at all. lag lag lag. I did all the tek stuff with -perfs. If i put my char facing a wall the perfs go up to 20 if i look into the crowd, down to like 6. what going on Wish i could help you. Ill report back if i figure it out.
If you are talking about FPS (Rather than network lag) some people have been able to work around that by either playing GW without sound OR by decreasing hardware acceleration in Windows itself.
Do i need to turn the sound off in opitons menu? I never turn the volume up when i play. Yes i was talking about the FPS just forgot what it was called hehe. Im only getting it up to 16 at times. But mostly just 3. I did turn graphics way down and that helped a tiny bit. ill go mess around with the sound now thanks.

What's the specs of your rig?
AMD 1.7 gig, 512 ram, 60 gig hard drive, geforce2mx400, sound blaster live. I know the graphics card is not up to par but it still worked fine up till the last update. I cant get passed the log in area now. Im going to upgrade my ram and video card this weekend. Any suggestions on what video card i should buy?
Same here, P4 1.7 gig, 512 ram, 40 gb hard drive, geforce2mx400, built-in sound card, 56kb dial-up. Up till the last update, both my graphics card and dial-up connection had served me well too.
I'm at the Europe server and play with -perf and at lowest settings, i get 16, 22 or even 31 FPS but it's the lag every few seconds that's made it unplayable at home now. Trying to move a few paces or changing to the less-populated international district gives me err007.
I'll be upgrading my video card this month too, I hope that'll help. Later at home I'll try doing -diag also.
Sorry to bump this thread but i did say i would report back if i figured anything out. Well i put a new video card in last night and some more ram which im still working on. I finaly got logged into the game and my FPS are jump from like 20 to 70. depending were im looking in the game. So I guess the old card just gave up on me. It just happen at the same time as the update so i thought that was causing the problem. My bad thanks see u around.
Hijacking thread (sorry, this is beginning to grow on me ).
About them lag-issues. Apparently the OP didn't have "lag" as in connection but "just" low fps. That sucks, but as it seems it was easily (perhaps not cheaply though) fixed.
Anyway. A week or so ago I started being interested in PvP and had a few goes at it, but a few/couple of days ago that became nigh-impossible, because:
1) my teammates, heroes and enemies don't walk, they just appear in different positions in the battle field.
2) My energy bar *really* doesn't reflect the real amount of energy. like getting "not enough energy" messages trying to cast Clumsiness when the energy bar shows 47 energy. I think I even have a screenshot of that.
3) Interrupting is beyond impossible, 50% of the time spells don't go off when I hit the button, usually they don't activate at all, I have to keep hitting the key and hope it activates in time to actually do anything.
4) I die, for particularly no reason whatsoever, or my health bar fluctuates up/down without any spells/attacks from foes or enemies (no icons on the left where the "hit markers" go). Or them even being close. I died of a warrior attack (some axe swing, I forgot the name) about 10-15 seconds *after* the warrior was dead, and was a corpse (as in, nobody had resurrected him).
This doesn't happen in any other online game, and my framerate in GW never drops below 40, so I'm pretty sure it's the network-lag variety. What I don't know, is this: Has anyone (lot of anyone's in fact) had similiar lag-problems, particulary in Zaishen challenges and/or PvP arenas?
EU servers, Finland, 2Mbit ADSL connection trough hardware NAT.

I'm gunna say it's a internet connection issue. have you run gw.exe -diag?

Sorry, I forgot to say I did run with -diag/ and perfs just to check it out. I'll post the whole diag thing if anyone wants a look at it, but ohwell. And, the problem is not apparent in any other game, so I'm loathe to blame the internet connection alone. It would be useful for there to be a switch that would display ping times in-game, just like the -perfs display triangles/fps/bps. The bps rate doesn't really tell one way or the other if there's any problems, only thing one can read from that is how much/fast is gw transferring data, not how long it takes to locate said data or how much it actually needs to transfer.
anyways, done the chores, problem is only with GW, I don't think it's (only) an internet connection issue.
Upgraded to an n6200 and a broadband connection. Lag solved! Although AntiiV, I haven't tried PvP yet.
I've set the graphics slider to 2nd-fasteset speed.
One thing I notice though is that even now, when entering an outpost, the screen freezes, i get white artifacts (snowflakes lol) and with -perf on, FPS at 1 and the bytes/sec thingy at 0... but after a few seconds the connection's up again, everything's fine...

AnttiV, those are classic symptoms of internet routing issues (lost packets, you seem to be losing a great deal of them).
I can attest to the same thing, but mine for a whole month was like that but worse. I could activate every single skill on my bar and they would all do the activation animation on the bar, but nothing would ever happen :) I could walk around (npc's and other players would jump aka rubberband around) but I couldn't attack anything or use any skills. That all lasted for an entire day, but the lag and rubberbanding and delayed skill activation persisted for an entire month after that.
The thing that solved it for me was a city wide power outage which reset my service providers equipment which was causing the problem. They refused to test their equipment even after I had replaced ALL of mine.
