Whilst travelling through snowy Kamadan I discovered (to my surprise) a large group of people huddled together in a corner. When I appraoched many of them began to yell:
'No clicking the dwarf!'
'The dwarf will give us presents'
And other less printable lines (these people are very protective of their dwarf). It would appear that we have some kind of cult developing in Kamadan, hundreds of people have begun to gather around this winter dwarf and near-worship him, somehow believing that if they worship enough (and keep away non-believers) that this dwarf will gift them hats and, as one person put it: 'a req 9 perfect dead sword'. This is in spite of a total lack of evidence to support the claim.
The Cult Of The Dwarf seems to be growing with each new district and it won't be long before we ask ourselves: Is the time of the 5 Gods over once more? Has the era of the Winter Dwarf begun? Only time will tell.
I guess at this time of year our hearts must go out to these people, those more gullible than ourselves. Merry Wintersday (or Xmas).
Just a quick screeny of one of these cult-groups:

Yep, there's a whole thread on this phenomenon over in the general forum. The Winter Dwarf urban legend seems destined to go down in GW history.

personally, I didn't get it.....the choices elicited a reaction from the dwarf from "stinking human" to hopefull optimism, to "kill me please". I tried all three, and nothing seemed to happen except the dwarf commiting apparent suicide then was brought back to life by the guard and his "tonic". I like a mystery as much as the next person, but having no information on this puzzle is very frustrating. (I want to free the lil bugger, and see if he can make a run back to the shiverpeaks to get me a six-pack of dwarven ale for the festivities)

I have it on good authority that every 1000th person to kill the dwarf gets the new rare material, Frosties Favourites, currently going for 100+30 each. On Wintersday itself you will be able to trade in 5 of these for bonuses, including the ability to reach level 21 and transform into an orc, but most amazingly of all, a permanent non-removable enchant called 'illusion of invulnerability', which provides +3 health regeneration at 8 healing.

Seconded, hilarious. There also was another guy in one of the districts claiming that the GW servers ran on the dying dwarf. Basically the GW servers required a certain amount of soul reaping in order to stay up. So what ever you do, don't stop killing the dwarf or we'll all be disconnected!

Thanks Rob, now I can't get the image of that old National Lampoon cover that had the dog on it with the gun to his head...
So, sign me up... where does this Dwarf Cult keep the kool-aid?

I spent about 5 minutes spamming that if they allowed the dwarf to live for 20 minutes then he would teleport all those near him to the frozen UW where they would all recieve frozen chaos axes as rewards. Needless to say the amount of ppl by the dwarf increased and i began to recieve pms asking whether that was true or not. I seriously worry about the people playing if they believe such things so easily.

Well, if people can jump over where the wall is lowest to get easilly attained goods, in their eyes. Then a cunning demgogue can make the crowd jump through all sorts of hoops, if they think they will be rewarded. And the absolutely cunning schemer can easilly convince them that they didnt do it rigth when they fail to produce the uber item of pwnsauce, should the dwarf actually live for 10 minutes. Like you forgot to stand in the 9 rings and faultlessly executing 10 music related emotes in less then 25 seconds.
People WANT to get the wool pulled down over their eyes, if it means geeting something super powerful for free.
