Noob question:

I've got about 20 of these and i'm not sure what they do. They don't work as skill coupons and someone in game told me that they're used to "unlock" skills. I've seen the word "unlocked" next to some skills when i go to skill trainers but not all of them. I'm able to buy the ones that are not labeled "unlocked" but i wasn't checking to see if i was using tomes or not. Is this what they are for?

They let you learn a skill without using money or a skill point, any unlocked skill can be learnt, except elites, which you have to use an elite tome for.

A Skill tome that allows the character who reads it to learn a skill for that profession that they have already unlocked elsewhere for the account.

In other words, say you have unlocked Teinai's Crystals with one character (A Factions N/E perhaps or by using Balthazar's Faction to unlock it at A Priest of Balthazar). Your elementalist can learn this skill without having to buy it from the Skill trader by simply using a Tome.

Elite tomes are for Elite skills, regular Tomes are for regular skills.

an elite tome is a basically a cheaters thing to learn an elite without battling the boss for it... aka the cowards way for not valiantly defeating/working hard to kill a boss for a elite you want XD

Wouldn't the same go for merchanting items?

Back on the topic of tomes, adding in another question:
Any good places to get normal ele tomes, where you don't get spiked for 800 damage or something that insane?
As my new ele (who just got Leg. Survivor, yay!) rather wants to tome all the skills I already unlocked instead of paying 1k+point for em, again >.<

You could try Vanquishing a few of the lower level areas. Most of them aren't too tough, just watch out for areas with Hexes and Conditions. Very annoying!

You could also try to buy a few tomes. I'm not sure of the actual prices right now, but it's usually less than 1K, so cheaper than buying them at the skill trainer.

So i tried to use some of these tomes and i have every skill thats available on them so far. I have GWEN but i haven't bought any skills yet. I wanted to get Glowing Ice but even when i was using the tome in an outpost where the skill trainer had it, it wasn't available to get with the tome. That's the only Ele skill that i need that i don't have yet so i have plenty of tomes for sale. PM me in game (Kylie McDiarmid) if you want to buy them. is 500g each fair?

You have to unlock the skill first either by buying it regularly from the trainer or unlocking it first with 1k balthazar faction.

so the tomes are really only good if you have already bought or unlocked the spell on another character?
