View Full Version : Smiters/Sin-Split Still Viable in GvG?

Since the current meta is almost dominated by a balanced build, I am trying to think of something a bit different. Inspired by an old build, I was wondering if a two-sin split while keeping smiters at the flagstand will still work. More specifically, the build will consist of the following:

Flagstand:
2 Shattering Assault sins
2 Smiters
2 Monks

2 split-sins (Build not finalized yet)

While I know that I have not provided the complete list of skills that would be used, I am just wondering if the 2 Shattering Assault sins will provide enough pressure once the opponent split in response to the two ganking sins, and whether smiters (most likely AoE as elite) are still viable in today's meta.

TIA

Snares and kiting will own your pressure at the stand without a snarer.
The gank sins have been nerfed pretty thoroughly. They can easily send back their flagger and possibly their bsurge/ranger and rock your split.
You're entire team will consist of squishies, pretty much all of them are fairly easy spike targets.
Your frontline will have troubles overextending.
That's the first problems which come to mind.

Yes it still works, Mistral's Edge ran it after the recent sin nerfs and it was fine.

Thanks for the comments, here's the skills for the flagstand team!

*One of the skills for the D/A is missing, I haven't thought of what to put there yet.

I've taken the comments about the snare and susceptibility to mind and decided to use SA Dervish instead of sins. Is the +10AL and energy gain through Mysticism worth the change from sin primary to Dervish? Also, is it better for the smiters to drop the signet for Smiter's Boon? Feel free to flame away or even strike down the whole build, I just want to hear your comments.

Stupid question...... What's a sin-split?

It's a bunch of assassins running all over the map so they can ninjagank some of the NPCs that guard your base.

So how is this bad? I mean, more guys splitting means less guys in the frontline, right?

Why do you assume they need a frontline?

Why do you assume they need a frontline?

Mostly because when I watch those GvG matches, I see a clump of people getting stuck at a certain point in the map where they just fight it out. I don't play GvG at all so I don't know how the mechanics of the game are supposed to work.

Normally what a frontline does is provide your team with the damage you need to accomplish your goals. In a sinsplit, you don't have a frontline because your goal is just to stall until VoD while your sins clean up NPCs. When VoD comes and the NPCs march on you, the NPCs provide the damage that the sinsplit lacks nicely making up for that weakness. Prior to VoD, they have enough shutdown (in the form of eles or illusion mesmers) to lockdown any frontline you have. They don't do damage, but neither do you and that's to their advantage. They came in not wanting to do damage, so mission accomplished for them.

A shorter version is: sinsplit = ***.

Read the whole thread, david is explaining sin split to the previous poster who had enquired what it was.
