View Full Version : Newbie--Working up to GvG

Hi, I recently came back to GW after a ~2 year hiatus. Back then I was a heavy PvE player and my plan was to unlock as many skills and items through PvE as I could so that I'd have the freedom to play several different professions in PvP. However, I never got past occasional RAs and ABs. I played a little HA but was limited to shoddy pick-up IWAY or blood spike groups because I was unranked.

Anyways, coming back after being away for so long I've noticed that I'm even more clueless now than I was back then. My long-term goal is to be able to play respectable GvG, but for now I'm just trying to learn all the basic nuances and to-knows about PvP. At the moment I am mostly playing ABs and a few RAs--I find AB a bit more forgiving in terms of your performance affecting the outcome of the match. I also try and watch broadcasted GvG matches occasionally but usually am kind of lost as to what's going on or what I should be looking for.

So now I'm just wondering what things I should participate in to move toward GvG-style PvP..

What area of PvP should I play in after ABs and RAs?

Would you recommend TAs or HA?

How do you begin to get involved in GvG or find a guild willing to let you in?

I can't really think of many more questions although I'm pretty sure there's stuff I'm missing or questions that haven't come to mind, so please just offer any information that may be helpful. Thanks.

HA is full of sway farmers.
GvG is full of sineptitudes.
TA is...not much difference...Wail of Doom!.

go HA, you'll learn the most about pvp there IF you avoid sways.

and from HA you'll roll into GvG and that where the fun begins ^^

You really have no clue what you're talking about if you still think GvG is full of sineptitudes.

Maybe by sin he meant dervish and by ineptitude he meant signet of judgment.
But I doubt it.

This thread includes some pretty useful information on GW PvE.

For a specific guild, I'm not sure whether team kisu's starter division is still recruiting but they probably are. Check here (http://teamlove.us/kisu/).
You probably want to apply for this:

Virtual Love [kiSu] is our entry level PvP guild currently leads an active PvP/PvE alliance. Players in this guild engage in high end PvE and AB, and are given the opportunity to learn the basics of GvG in a serious, but forgiving environment. Virtual Love requires only a good attitude, high level of activity, and willingness to work to learn and improve.

I'm not so sure if HA is the best option for GvG. I know all maps in HA and know what the objectives are but I don't know almost any guild hall maps and don't know much about splits/etc. and what to do with NPCs. I might try to get into GvG sometime in the future.

Yeah, that's certainly a good place. Billiard has also collected alot of articles on the site, so there's alot of reference material you can use for stuff people won't be able to answer with a single post.
