Hello, i just logged on my gw account to find im suspended for 39 hours for buying gwg with real money. I didnt know they can track you now??
I bought gwg long ago without a problem, can someone tell me how they track you now days?
Like some guys say you cant get 100k gold from someone an not give them nothing?
I hear people are getting temp bans for tradeing also is there a faq on this somewhere?
Also i didnt see this in the rules section so wasnt sure if im allowed to talk about this here.
If anyone else got temp banned for buying gwg let me know your stories. Did they take all your gold even the gold thats legit? Or just the gold you bought?
Also whats a safe way of trading now? since you cant accept 100k's from people no more.
Thanks again.

Lesson learned, don't buy gold. 'Nuff said. There is a message on the login screen warning against buying gold. It's even on their website Real-Money Trading Policy (http://www.guildwars.com/support/rmt/rmt-en.php). As far as I know, they have been able to track that kind of thing since the beginning.
So basically, you shouldn't be doing it, but if you choose to, do it at your own risk. If you get caught, you can't really say much about it.
It should be permanent. You break the rules, get punished, and come here all confused because of that and ask how did they catch you? Why would somebody help you?

heh, ya ill never do it again. but what about trading? say your friend is quiting gw an wants to give you all his gold. Would that be seen as buying gold?
Just trade them something insignificant, like a few things of cloth or a purple weapon. People transfer money between accounts all the time like that.
Also I'd expect to get yelled at for admitting you bought gold here. Personally I don't see the big deal, as it's far less efficient than zkeys are.. but hey, your money. I'd just rather buy a yummy pizza than spend it on something I could get in a 15 minutes of sitting in Kamadan.

Ectos have been used as an alternative currency for larger trades since 2005... And later armbraces and zaishen keys.
They don't share how they do it... because if you knew how they detect RL gold buyers and sellers, then you'd also know how to avoid detection.
That being said, just don't do it, and you'll be safe.

If they saw it that way, I'm sure you could appeal in that case. You'd probably need to give them proof that your friend is quitting. Chances are, if they are quitting though, you'd probably get more than just gold from them (probably some weapons and other things), so they would probably not see it as gold selling.

Actually a couple days ago i got some gold from somewhere else not a pay site. a couple 100k.
I was just fine with no temp ban, untill i bought from the pay site last night. It may be just the pay sites that are being tracked.

I think it's safe to say bearsfwd has said all there really needs to be about the OP's suspension, so I'll just ask that all discussion on that ends in this thread, full stop.
As for legitimate trades, I think you'll be mostly safe from the risk of further suspension regardless of what you're trading. Mostly. Mistakes can still happen but if and when they do, you can try contacting support to contest it provided the trade was genuinely legit.
I think temp suspension is a bit light to be honest.
Without discussing the effects buying gold has on in game and real life economics too much it's not a very nice thing to do.
Everyone is entitled to a mistake however so perhaps some leniency is proper.
Your friend gave you 200K the other week and you're buying gold?
Perhaps a little look at putting perspective on purchases (or achievements) is needed.

What did you expect?
Hope you're aware that by funding gold selling websites, you're basically okay-ing actions such as account hacking. I believe there's people here who have had their accounts hacked by 'professional gold sellers' and have lost money, weapons, mini pets and pieces of armor, amongst other things - some of them irreplaceable. Seeing as they worked hard in-game for their in-game luxuries, whilst you just handed over a credit card number, I think a temp ban is actually quite a light punishment, tbh.
Gold is not hard to make in this game, nor is much of it needed to make the most of it. It certainly won't make you a better or cooler player.
No sympathy.
After all these years, I still don't see why anyone would need immediate huge chunks of gold, other than festival tickets for boardwalk.
Anyway, there are many apparent differences between receiving plats from a friend or gold seller. For instance, a friend giving you plats would either be in your guild or has been in your friend list for a while, or at least had conversations before, as opposed to seller who would be a person you did not have any interaction with before. Also, you would have had conversation with a friend about you needing money before that friend would give you gold (though this one isn't necessarily in GW chat).

Numberonefan.... LMFAO!!! :D
Here's a guy (http://guildwars.incgamers.com/showthread.php?t=492026) who's lost 4 years worth of work on Guild Wars through some gold seller hacking their account.
See what you did there Numbahwonphan?

a-net owns and controls GW. They can do nearly anything they like with it. This includes them having the ability to record/watch players chat. It's not that tough, they just need to add like a little bit of code basically saying if a chat message is sent from this account send it to the appropriate chat channel and also send it to us. I'm sure that if you were getting 100k from a friend it would have been obvious based upon the dialogue between you and your friend. From a gold seller its just they walk up, trade, boom, done and that's it.
If anyone else got temp banned for buying gwg let me know your stories. Did they take all your gold even the gold thats legit? Or just the gold you bought?

I really like the way you're showing remorse there. Asking straight for new and safer strategies for more gold purchases, that's really showing how that light punishment is working well in your case.

ehe, i wasnt asking for people feeling sorry for me man.
all i bought was a measly 5 dollars worth, i spend more then that on coffee.
Also i dont see the big deal with it, people wasteing tons of time farming for gold. When you can hand a guy 5 lowly dollars for a large chunk of gold. And get on with your life. Theres tons of other stuff i'd rather be doing then farming the same boring monsters over an over.
Anyways, i figured out how to get large cash safely now without the scumbags at a.net suspending me.
So, tell us your stories of being suspended for buying gold an whatnot. And dont be shy, we are all gennelmen here.

Don't trash Anet because YOU broke THEIR rules and got temporarily banned. You knew what you were doing. You accepted their EULA when you created your account. If you were unsure of whether or not buying gold was legal, that's on you to find out.
If you are too lazy to get the gold for yourself, then why are you playing this game?
Don't complain when you get banned permanently. My question...if they are scumbags, why on earth are you playing a game that THEY provide you on THEIR servers with THEIR rules.

"I like them scumbag kids at a.net. There nice kids." Thats not really trashing someone.

This is primarily a pve forum, when you suggest that you acquire gold in methods that don't require farming so that you can go have a life, people get pretty upset.
I still say that zaishen keys are an easier way to make money though. That 5 bucks could have went towards a slice of pizza for lunch. Mmmm.

Yes, it is only a game. And no, I'm not getting my knickers in a twist or in a red faced madness. And no, I have a life that requires my computer to be on. So no timeout for me.

I've never called a friend a scumbag...
But the way you said it seemed to imply that you were disgusted that they banned you for breaking their rules.

No see, my issue isn't people who break the rules, it's people who break the rules, get caught, and complain that it's not fair.
But yes, that is $5 that is better spent elsewhere. A $5 footlong from Subway .

The problem I have with this isn't that you avoid farming. I don't particularly enjoy farming myself, so I can understand that part.
But buying gold means:
1) It's profitable to hack into accounts to get gold. Hence your goldbuying indirectly contributes to a security risk.
2) People who spend on gold have the upper hand in buying items. Hence goldselling activities make legit farming that much less profitable.
3) You confuse those who spend money on in-game gold as having a life. If the game is not fun enough to play, then don't play it... and by doing so let devs know that you want less grind in your game.
There's a reason goldselling is illegal. It's because it has several negative impacts on regular players.

That, and also because it is Anet's property these gold sellers are selling.

I asked that all discussion of the OP's suspension ended, but the questions regarding legitimate trading was fine, but clearly that fell on blind eyes between last night and when I came back to my computer. :undecided:
So Thread Closed. :sealed:
