Hello!

Is noone interested why dwarves never made it to GW2?
They are playing an important role in EOtN campaign and every other race in EOtN is now in GW2.
They are small, stubborn, brave and greedy. I find them really awesome.
Probably fond of them because Lord of the rings trilogy, I love Gimli

You could say that Asura race is replacing them, but they have really different characteristics.

I would love to play dwarf in GW2, what do you think?

All of the dwarves eventually participated in the ritual. There are no non-stone dwarves in Tyria. - Ree Soesbee

They all went the way of the Great Dwarf. And turned to stone (sort of). So, they're simply... gone... (stone dwarves don't reproduce very well...)

Dwarves aren't completely gone...just in complete isolation, basically. They are keeping the destroyers below the surface, so they are rarely seen.

As far as having them as a playable race, I'm not quite sure what they would offer us. Aside from being short and their beliefs, there wasn't much difference between them and humans. They were a bit more mechanically inclined, but that went the way of the Charr in GW2, with their guns and mechanical structures we've seen in their cities.

They're a dying race.

They didn't ALL become stone, but a lot of them did. Tons of people of all races were killed by the dragons' resurfacing. Presumably, the dwarf population is very, very small during GW2.

Kind of wonder if they'll be extinct later on or make a comeback. We'll have to start keeping them in captivity and forcing them to breed like tigers.

Oooh, you mean like the Wintersday dwarves? The ones we aren't supposed to feed?

I'm pretty sure all Dwarves turned into stone in the end, whether they liked it or not.
We are Dwarf, you will be assimilated. :sealed:

I seem to remember an interview where they confirmed that all dwarves were turned to stone eventually.

Also, I don't get the fascination with dwarves. There are so many more original races than that in the fantasy genre...

So they all turned to stone
Well fine, no dwarves then..

Dwarves are one of the best races in fantasy world to me.
Story around them is so well created, they are usually the smallest race and always frustrated about their height so they are trying to proove themselves as great warriors to other races.
Dirty, greedy, stubborn, easily offended little creatures.

The thing I like about them is that they have a lot of negative characteristic, they are not pure and noble like most of the others races, but still able to show good, righteous side that rarely pops up.
Probably a lot of things that are opposite of what I am in real life

Also, that is a LOT more than what we know about current races in GW2
Norn are big warriors that love fighting, and slylvari are all about nature and peace, they are pure and love exploring, Charr love war and don't respect any other race or even members in their own race, Humans are noble and they worship gods, their strenght is in unity. Asurans are smart, intelligent blabla.

I just feel more layers could be added to races, like dwarves have. Then I might started to enjoy them more or get really interested about their history and culture.
But maby that's just me

I still don't think they all turned to stone, but it sounds like the ones that didn't turn to stone died. So, either way, all dwarves are stone in GW2.

The fight between the Dwarves and the Destroyers consumed the Dwarven race. Few lived to return to the surface and tell the tale of their victory—and those who did had been irrevocably altered. No longer made of flesh and bone, no blood pumped through their veins. Instead, they found their bodies composed entirely of stone surrounding nothing but cold, hard earth.

I'm reading between the lines a bit (plus, having finished EotW, I know they all didn't take the blessing).

Can we say for sure that the Deldrimor dwarves (and their Stone Summit offshoot) are the only race of dwarves on the planet? Who knows what all is to be found in the Depths of Tyria or on the unexplored areas of the surface? We didn't find out about the asura until EotN, as no dwarf bothered to mention them to us in Prophecies. We didn't find out about the skritt until recently, as no asura bothered to mention them to us in EotN. Why couldn't there be other dwarven kingdoms that we just haven't heard about yet?

I think ANet can justify the introduction of a new group of dwarves if they want to make them a playable race. But, like Alaris, I'm not sure I see what this would really contribute to the game compared to some of the alternatives that are available. Tengu, centaur, or naga would be more original races to play.

All dwarves are stoned.

I think ANet just decided that they wanted their own races instead of copy-paste what had been made (dwarves, elves, etc) and since dwarven-obsessed people needed an answer or they'd beg forever, they went ahead and stoned all the dwarves.

At first, only the advance force accompanying King Jalis participated in the ritual and were turned to stone. Over the following years, the remaining dwarves participated. As of the present, no dwarf of flesh and blood remains.

Q: It is said all dwarves who participated in invoking the Great Dwarf’s power to battle the Great Destroyer were turned to stone. Are there dwarves then who are not stone out in the world somewhere still (assuming then there were some dwarves who did not participate)? If so, how are interactions between them and their stone brethren?

Hhahaha that was so cruel!

Well I do agree, they really have made original races and didn't copy much of other games or fantasy movies/books.
I hope their story will be interesting too

Also, it'd be nice to play a stone dwarf, although I'd much rather play a stone something else, like a gargoyle or a stone elemental.

They should make elemental a race, and instead of picking a gender, you pick an element.

Stone dwarf wouldn't make much sense though, not offspring so they technically had a life before we hijack it.

Dwarves don't offer a lot that humans don't have. Because humanity is in dire straights in GW2, things are a bit different, but as soon as the human becomes the top-dog, they'll be greedy, stubborn, easily offended and even quicker to take action against any (supposedly) offender... But any group that finds itself in a corner, will stick together and will appear to be noble (at least, in the eyes of the members of that group...)

Sounds like you aren't reading the GW2 blogs. They have pretty extensive backgrounds on all the races, and have had "[insert race] weeks" for all of them, where they talk about their culture and lore.

I hated the idea of Asura until I read all the blogs about them on the GW2 site. So no you aren't alone in your thinking, it just sounds like you aren't up to date.

The dwarves are one of the races we know the least about, you're projecting from Tolkien books on to Tyrian dwarves.

I would love to have a quest in GW2 about the Dwarves.

Example:
"I have done research into the old mythos of the Dwarves, and, after the warding off of the Destroyers they seem to have vanished. No one really knows where they vanished to, but if my research is correct...

You look a rather rough individual. I need explorers to go search and collect stone facts whether I am correct or not. I'd go myself, but there are many dangers I am frankly not equipped nor care to handle. I will pay you handsomely off course, my department has been well funded this year."

(Yes)

"Wonderful, here are the mountain areas for you to explore. Note that some of the Dwarves may have become too far eroded or have merged with the land itself. If any of them talk, by Dwayna write it down! In any case, do not share this information with anyone, I have a paper to publish!"

(No)

"Sad to hear, sad to hear. Well, ... I guess I will have to buy the aid of some good Norn. I'd never hire an Asuran Golemancer, they would want co-authorship of everything..."

The quest would bring one to the highest mountain tops across Tyria in exploration for the Dwarves; this would not be an easy quest, and most of it would require defeating other higher level parts of the game to then explore afterwards.

If the dwarves are as single minded 250 years later as they were after receiving the blessing, then they're probably still working to keep the destroyers from doing too much damage to the surface. I wouldn't be surprised if there are areas in the ground within the Maguuma jungle seeping with destroyers and a DE would be triggered once you stumble upon the Dwarf or Dwarves that are fighting them off. But because they are so few and no longer mortal, it seems plausible that the Dwarves would be solitary. The lost remnants of an old race. It's quite sad actually.

They've piled up like legos and now are a castle. End of story.
