A note from Arthearius, Guildmaster of Black Cloak:

Thank you for considering Black Cloak as your guild home. We take a lot of pride in what we have built here over the past 12 + years! Black Cloak is an inclusive community of mature adult gamers with matching game ideologies and interests. We are heavy Ventrilo users and so tend be a very social bunch. If you are over the age of 25 and enjoy a casual and laid back atmosphere with players that can still take on the challenges in your game then you are applying to the right guild.

General Information

Guild Name: Black Cloak
Time Zone: PST
Playstyle: Casual (5-150hrs/wk) to Moderate (15-30hrs/wk)
Common Peak Playtime: 5pm-1am PST (Mostly weekdays)
Minimum Age: 25+

Guild Description

BC will remain a medium sized guild (35-75/game) as we have always found it to benefit us by finding the right players and forming a cohesive unit capable of melting our enemies faces. We love to experience PvE content and when we have conquered that we turn our main attention to PvP. We care more about the personality of the player than his current skill level. Many a n00b have we turned into battle hardened slayer!

F.A.Q.

Q: What makes Black Cloak unique?

A: When most guilds are created they have a similar goal in mind: recruit as many players as possible, identify the hardcore elites and raid with them, sometimes leaving other members to sit and watch or find new guilds. Black Cloak is different. We are focused on getting the right players with the right play-styles and times and extracting as much fun as we can from the games we play. This guild will not be for everyone and thus we have low turnover. It's important to note here that because of our application process we rarely have people join the guild that don't fit well. It's extremely rare to see people leave and in most cases those who make it through the process are lifers.

Q: What play times are the majority of the members on?

A: This is key. Our main playtimes are 5pm to 1am PST/PDT. Here's a converter to see if this matches your playtimes. Weekdays are the majority of our scheduled events and weekends are more of a freeplay as most of us are out with family/friends during the weekend. This is a sticking point for guild membership. If you do not share our play times then there really is no reason to join us.

Q: How often do you do things together?

A: We will be doing atleast 2 events together each week. Wether this be a dungeon crawl or WZ, world bosses or raids. These events will be scheduled around the players time frames and availablility so that we can get as many people in as possible.

Q: I have a hectic RL, what if I can't make some or even most of the guild events?

A: I will answer this in two parts: 1) There are no requirements to make the guild events. They are voluntary and elective. 2) This is why this guild was created. RL is far more important than gaming and should be treated that way. We know that RL can and often will end your game time abruptly. We are here to support you and won't hold grudges for having to bail on an event, planned or pick-up.

Q: Whats your application process?

A: Our process has recently changed and now requires a bit more work on the applicants side, but really puts more emphasis on player integration. The process in it's entirety can be found here. In basic terms: you will be able to join the in-game guild within 24 hours of submitting an application (if you are accepted) so you can get to know us while the rest of the process is carried out.

Our Code of Conduct

Black Cloak is an adult community. We rarely have a need for rules or general guidelines. In fact the only rule we have had over the past 6 years is: "Don't be an ***-hat". However with the growth of the guild I would be remiss if I didn't lay out a simple, short and sweet code of conduct that clears up a few things for the Cloak. These codes ought to be guidelines you already hold true as our sponsorship program is designed to weed out those that don't. Without further adieu, our Code of Conduct:

NO LOOT WHORES
Seriously, this is a video game that us old men and women are still hooked on. There's no reason to allow our ire to be raised over a string of digital code that drops in a flash point or Operation. Didn't get what you wanted? Let it go. It will surely drop again.

BE ACTIVE ON THE SITE
Cloaks that don't care about the goings-on in the guild and never check in on the site will probably never make any of our activities or know what we are working towards and in the end, go sour on the guild. Stay informed and be a part of our growth...don't just wait for others to do it.

HAVE SOME SELF RESPECT
Don't be "that guy" in general chat. I once watched a movie, you may have heard of it, that had a line "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all". We all have RL's outside this game. Plenty of people to be grumpy with out there, let our MMOs be a place of calm and fun.

BE A LEADER
If you see something in the guild that you think ought to be changed do something about it. Talk to officers and Arthearius. Discuss it with other Cloaks. Don't sit on the sidelines with a frowny face and point fingers. Be active in making the Cloak a better place for casual adult gamers.

EXPECT THE EXPECTED or ROLL WITH IT
Know what the Cloak is. Don't expect to be on the cutting edge of raid progression. Sure, as things get rolling we will catch up to the "hardcore" guilds but in the meantime we will enjoy the game at our pace without charging through the content.

Black Cloak is a niche guild that is a perfect home for some but not for all. Some will very much enjoy our truly laid back style and others will want the ravenous raid progressing "more dots" atmosphere other guilds provide. If you think the above Code of Conduct is in line with your gaming beliefs you are in the right guild. If not, come talk to me...I gots some 'splainin to do.

Application Process

1. Application submittal - Please make sure you answer each question honestly and with some detail. Put your best foot forward and use proper english, please don't allow your app to read like a 14yr old's text message. PLEASE ALLOW UP TO 24 HOURS FOR APPROVAL.

Approved: You may then seek out an officer in game and accept your invite.
Declined: You have answers in your application that have raised a red flag with atleast 2 of the RDOs and they do not believe you would be a good fit. In this case you may request an explanation by PM'ing one of our RDO's directly.
Closed: A closed application can be reopened and is usually closed becuase a question was asked of you without a return response (within reasonable time frame).

3. Recruit Training Period - Once you have been invited into the in-game guild the clock starts ticking, within the next 30 days you will have to make an effort to integrate into the guild. Proof of your success in this is shown by obtaining the sponsorship of two current Black Cloak members. Again, you will have 30 days to obtain the necessary sponsors.

The easiest way to achieve this is to jump on vent and meet the guild. Answer calls for help or open FP spots and in general just be friendly. The sponsors will need to PM an RDO directly stating their sponsorship of you and why they have chosen to do so.
Remember this process well, as you too will someday be called on to sponsor a new recruit.

4. "Venterview" - After obtaining the required sponsors you will be invited to seek out an RDO and do a short, casual interview on vent. At this point you should be comfortable with most of our members and our ventrilo. Answer honestly and you should be fine. Once approved by the RDO you are a fully vetted Black Cloak.
