I am Pointless...

Yep. Warner chickened out and when exclusively Blu-Ray, a few others pulled out and Toshiba then threw in the towel, leaving many feeling as though they've wasted their money and a few making unreasonable complaints.

I myself have an Xbox 360 HD-DVD player, and up until Thursday only have two films for it: Transformers and Shaun of the Dead. However, instead of getting worked up about it: Hey. I'm just gonna buy more HD-DVDs. No reason to stop because the format is dead commercially, isn't it?

SO! This Friday, I popped into Gamestation (Ooh. 3 for 2! *buys*) and spent just over £100 () on several HD flicks:

300
Nacho Libre
V for Vendetta
Hot Fuzz and
The Ultimate Bourne Collection

So I'm pretty chuffed with myself there.

As for Microsoft, well... Releasing the HD-DVD drive as a separate add-on was probably the best idea they came up with. Had Blu-Ray "died the death", then Sony would have been a little on the shafted side, but Microsoft could just turn to the Blu side right now and release a new player, couldn't they? Know what I mean?

Yep. Just read about it a while back. Looks like Sony finally gets their day in the sun after ATRAC and Betamax and the like.

As for Microsoft, with all those smart people, someone was bound to put 2 and 2 together and recognize the benefits of interchangeable parts and the plug-and-play principle. Have fun with your HD-DVD. In 10 years, you'd have something to impress ppl with.

What's funny is I talked to the suncoast guys, and they said 'well, it's not over yet. They just released Amercian Gangster on HD'. To which I reply "oh, it's not in the discount bin yet?" You know, I gotta wonder what'll happen to the technology. If it were to become freeware, might that entice people to pick it up? that's the thing right now, is that both techs require people who use them to pay money to use it. If one side becomes free... well, that's how VHS won way back when.
