Interesting Stuff - to me.

The Long Road and the Assassin Pity Party

Rate this Entry
I'm almost at the end of getting my GWAMM (God Walking Among Mere Mortals - aka I have no life - aka 30 maxed titles). My last two titles are Kurzick and Drunk. I do mean almost - Kurzick will be finished in less than three Drazach vanquishes once the weekend double faction is in effect and I have only 200 minutes of booze to bolt down.

Of course today was the day SF was nerfed, so I have to discuss it. My main is an assassin so one would think I would be here at my desk, sobbing into my tea, but I'm not. I know assassins are not considered skillful to play, but I have always enjoyed playing skirmish/light melee - right down to the days when I ran my stance-sword ranger in Prophecies.

When the assassin came along, it was a natural switch - I enjoy judging when to go in and go out, the approach and picking my target. SF of old was none of those things and I rarely used it while vanquishing or dungeoning - though I did use it to farm raptors a few hundred times while building up my booze/party/sweet inventory. Not my cup of tea as it was boring and had no risk attached - other than a finger fumble while putting SF back up. What I enjoy about my pve assassin is the risk in flinging myself out of monk range to kill something and then getting out.

I am looking forward to seeing fewer assassins and not seeing SF used for everything. I am looking forward to elite areas requiring something resembling an elite effort to complete, rather than watching a sin or a monk's butt wiggling in the distance as they kill everything.

Of course, people will as always find another way to farm and beat the system. It's human nature and I'm not a rabid anti-farmer type - it's just that the SF picnic went on far too long and the assassin profession is even more of a joke than it was in its days of Naruto-tard genesis.

I cannot act all purer-than-thou - I do maintain some farming vices, just that they are a bit diversified - my sin has two non-SF farming builds that were untouched by the nerf. My ritualist's spirit spam is quite effective and my mesmer still has a couple builds to offer. The farmer will never go away completely and I don't think they should - it is fun to design a custom build to get exactly what you want from an explorable area! I love when I am able to get something I need for myself.

Well, that's all I have to say. Spam on! QQ!

It's a pity the proverbial cat was allowed out of the bag in the first place and only put back after spawning several generations of illegitimate kittens.
